Ugh, I must apologize. Shiggers and I went out for tapas last night, which is fine, but whatever they put in their sangria has nearly destroyed whatever semblance of humanity that I had left. Now I have to go to the salon and get my hair did. God help anyone who pulls on my hair, I may burst into tears. Could be worse – I could be Shigs who had to go to the dentist this morning. Yikes. So here’s a quick and dirty training post before I head out to get roots touched up.
Real Madrid played a game on its sixth day of work
The 23 players coached by Mourinho were divided into two teams to play a match at Valdebebas
Real Madrid signed-off an intense first week of pre-season training with a session in which the ball was key. The 23 players, including the 14 youth academy players taking part in the session, played a match on pitch 3 at Valdebebas. Real Madrid thus completed the sixth day of training since beginning their preparation for the new season last Monday.
The players came together at 10:00 as they walked out on to pitch 3 where José Mourinho and his coaching staff were waiting for them. During the space of a quarter of an hour, they carried out the usual stretching and warm-up exercises under the direction of Rui Faria. After that period the Real Madrid coach took-over the reins of the session. The 23 players, made up of nine of the first team squad and 14 youth academy players were divided into two groups to carry out a series of training exercises prior to the match.
The contest was refereed by the former international referee Megía Dávila and was overseen from the sideline by the Portuguese coach who was paying particular attention to the movements of his players. The two teams were made up as follows. The team playing in white: Pacheco, Fabinho, Varane, Nacho Fernández, Ríos, Lass, Di María, Granero, Kaká, Callejón and Higuaín; against the team in blue made up of Adán, Juanfran, Mateos, Casado, Iván, Mosquera, Alex, Sahin, Denis, Morata y Lucas. The third goalkeeper, Jesús, rotated with the other two goalkeepers.
From the first minute the intensity of all the players could be seen. After more than one hour of play, the blue team won 5-1. Youth academy player Denis, with two goals, was the stand-out player of a contest in which Sahin scored a penalty and Morata and Lucas also scored for the winning team whilst Higuaín scored for the whites showed that he continues to be very calm in front of goal and that he will once again be a key part of Real Madrid’s coming season.
By the way, here’s a poster for the first pre-season match vs. Real Oviedo.
Esteban Granero was the lovely spokesmodel for today’s press conference. He says that he doesn’t want to leave and that he doesn’t want the same role as last year – he wants to do more. Bring it, Pirata! I want to see more of you on the pitch as well.
