I love the expression on Marcelo’s face. He speaks for many of us. The team had their last training session before their match against the LA Galaxy in Phoenix tomorrow. Is anyone here going?
The team signed for fans after training as they did the past couple of days. Here’s a fantastic shot – I’d love to credit the user, but unfortunately, I don’t have an Instagram account and the source link on GFSports requires a log in. If someone can give me the name of the account, I’d love to post it here. UPDATED: Thanks to watishista cy, we have someone to credit – this great photo is by Bonnie Naturlich.
Aren’t they awesome! Hopefully, she’ll post some more.
And here’s the shots of the team signing for the fans.
Afterward the team kicked back and had some friendly competition. Arbeloa posted this video of a swim race (like they did last year) pairing up Sergio & Kaka vs. Santi & Jack (who it’s thought are members of Ancelotti’s staff).
Iker posted a great little picture with Chendo.
The Mister did the presser today along with Flotsam & Jetsam, his ever present companions.
Ancelotti: “The club and the fans like good football and that is how we will try to play”
by Alberto Navarro (Los Ángeles)
“We want to do our best and put on a good show against Los Angeles Galaxy”, said the Real Madrid coach on the subject of their first match in North America
Carlo Ancelotti spoke to the media at the last training session before the first match in North America against Los Angeles Galaxy. The Italian coach praised his squad: “This club and the fans like good football and that is how we will try to play for them. This squad is very good. As I have often said, we have experience, youth, character and quality. I am very happy with the squad and the work we are doing. It is usual for there to be competition between the players because knowing that there are a lot of matches and that everyone has a chance to play helps motivate them all. We need to play in unity and be a team which plays attractive, offensive, attacking football”.
The Real Madrid coach also analysed his next pre-season opponent: “Everyone knows about Los Angeles Galaxy. It is a strong team, which has won the league in the USA two years running and has experienced players who have played in Europe, like Donovan, Cudicini and Keane. It will be a good match and we want to do our best, play well and put on a show”.
Ancelotti also reflected on the time he has spent in charge of the team: “It is very good. The players are very professional and it is very interesting to start a job like this, in earnest. We have had a small problem with Illarramendi and today he has started running, while Varane and Alonso are also recovering well. Up until now we have not had any major problems. I will try to do all I can to help the team to win and to keep up the highest international level”.
When asked specifically about Xabi Alonso’s recovery, he said: “He is very close to starting to play. He had a major injury, but he is doing very well and I hope he can play soon because he is very important to us”. And on the subject of Kaká, he said: “He is working on his own and with the team. He is going to improve, but it will take time. We are very confident that he will improve quickly”.
Two other names were important in the Italian’s press conference: Cristiano Ronaldo and Isco. On the subject of the former he said: “My view is that he should be comfortable playing because he is a very important player, but we do not need him to change his position. He does not have to do much defensive work but rather be ready when the team has the ball”. On the subject of the Spain Under-21 player and his role on the pitch, he said: “We do not have a defined position. There are various systems and players like him can play in different positions”.
On the subject of the possibility of Modric leaving, he was clear: “It is not true. All of the players are happy here. They are working well and we have not talked about transfers at all. It is not true that Modric is going. He is a very important player for us and he will be here this season”.
Finally, when asked about the possibility that the team will be reinforced with players like Bale or Lewandowski, he said: “It is difficult to talk about Bale because he is not a Real Madrid player at present. I think the club is negotiating to try to find a solution and we will see what happens. I have never spoken to him. I do not usually talk to players who are not from my team and it would not be fair to do so. Lewandowski is a world-class goal-scorer. There are a lot of fantastic players in the world but right now we do not need one”.
