The Baby and Fabio trained indoors while Sami continues his recovery. Everyone else was outside.
Karim shared a shot with Marcelo on his Instagram account. Hey, beats a duck face selfie.
Carlo had his presser today. He praised Cristiano and expressed his hopes that Xabi Alonso will renew his contract (me too!)
“The match against Osasuna will be tough and we have to be focused and do our best to win”, said the Real Madrid coach in the press room at Real Madrid City
Carlo Ancelotti appeared in the press room at Real Madrid the day before the La Liga match against Osasuna at the El Sadar Stadium. The Italian coach spoke about the match: “Osasuna are a tough team to beat at home. They are very organised and it is important to be focused and do our best to win. The team’s attitude is good and we are playing with clear ideas. We are doing very well at the moment and we have to keep it going because the season is long. We have to keep playing with the same attitude and getting good results”.
When asked about the starting eleven for the match at the El Sadar Stadium, he said: “I will not make many changes from the Copenhagen match. The players are well recovered after Tuesday and we have to give our all because it is always a difficult place to visit”. He was emphatic when asked whether there could be a repeat of what happened away against Rayo Vallecano tomorrow: “We have improved since the match against Rayo Vallecano. Now we are playing together, with chemistry and it will be different”.
In reference to Cristiano Ronaldo and his candidacy for the Ballon d’Or, he said: “I have spoken many times on this issue. He deserves to win the Ballon d’Or and he will hopefully win it. Cristiano Ronaldo has been playing well for some time and has the ability to score and keep scoring. He has been doing a fantastic job for us for three or four years and is very important for us. I am glad that he has been voted the best player in the world by World Soccer magazine”.
Ancelotti was also asked about Xabi Alonso’s renewal: “I spoke with him just to let him know that everyone wants him stay with us, but he is the one who has to make the right decision for himself”. About Varane’s fitness, he said: “He has been resting. He will be working individually until the end of the year. I hope that he will be training with the team in early January”.
The Italian was clear about the possibility of Di María changing teams in the winter: “I talked with him because I did not hear the press conference in Copenhagen. He hasn’t been to knock on my door and so he is happy. He may play tomorrow”. In reference to Falcao, he said: “He is a great player, but we are very happy with the forwards we have at the moment. We are scoring lots of goals and combining well”.
Regarding which opponents he would like to be paired up with in Monday’s draw for the Champions League round of 16, he said: “It isn’t that important because the round of 16 is always difficult and any team can make it tough for you. There are teams with different levels of quality: some more dangerous than others, but there are no easy matches”. Finally, he spoke about the possibility of being top of La Liga at Christmas: “There are four matches left. We have to pick up as many points as possible and winning all four would be good for us”.
The following players were called up:|
Goalkeepers: Casillas, Diego López, Jesús.
Defenders: Pepe, Ramos, Marcelo, Carvajal, Arbeloa, Nacho.
Midfielders: Bale, Xabi Alonso, Casemiro, Modric, Di María, Isco & Illarra.
Forwards: Cristiano Ronaldo, Benzema, Jesé, Morata.
The team then traveled to Pamplona and were greeted by over 300 fans at the airport. Iker also shared a couple of shots from the plane. Looks like a rainy trip (and Marcelo is an adorable goofball).
The team checked int to the Alma Muga de Beloso hotel for their concentraction. Iker and Jese were chosen to sign autographs and meet the fans. Prepare to coo seeing Iker with a very sweet little boy giving him smoochies and posing with other adorable woobinses. Iker was probably in heaven. He must be so excited to be a papi soon.
Sweet, right? The team is playing early tomorrow (well, early for us here in the US – kick off is 10 AM) so I’m going to take advantage of the fact that I actually can and go to bed early tonight. It’s cold as hell here still and we’re supposed to have a big old snowstorm in the morning so I’m going to make some hot cocoa and relax tonight. (Additional photos via GF Sports)
