Since we’ve seen the hotties that the Champions League has to offer this year, I thought it appropriate to check out all the Europa League contenders. First up is Apollon Limassol’s Argentine striker (and vice captain)Gastón. He originally spent 2007-2010 at Apollon, moved to La Liga side Sporting Gijon from 2010-2013 and then returned to Apollon. In addition to Cyprus and Spain, he’s played professionally in Argentina, Peru, Colombia and Israel.
But of course we knew that already! Nike has produced a rather overblown commercial for CR7’s Mercurial Superfly boot and the Clasico. Unintentionally hilarious is the special guest appearance of Carlo, Flotsam & Jetsam. Ya gotta love it!
Apparently it is. Seems like just yesterday that watishista mygypsyspirit and I were parked in our seats at the Bernabeu singing (and swearing) our hearts out at the last Liga Clasico. Let’s hope this one ends up better than the last time and that I don’t nearly get run over by a SWAT team on the way home from the pub. Just sayin’. Full disclosure: I was a little nervous going into this match. Not because I didn’t think we were strong, but because of where it fell in our schedule. I also kept thinking of our record against Liverpool. We’ve faced them three times and never beat them.
I was not, however, as nervous as watishista Mandi who is a huge Liverpool fan and the reason I’ve been to Anfield and the Melwood training grounds. Don’t worry, I took an extra long shower when we got back to London. Continue reading
