What A Difference Ade Makes!*

*Sorry, I couldn’t resist!

What an amazing, amazing game! I’m still on a high from it. It was a wonderful show of strength for Real Madrid and Los Blancos were just spectacular!

(From UEFA.com)

The match stats tell the tale of our domination but watching it was just incredible. Manu Adebayor, so completely wretched in the game on Saturday turned around and showed how wonderful he really can be.  In fact, Di Maria also redeemed himself tonight. You gotta love it. I wonder what Mou said to them after this weekend’s game? Whatever it was, it worked, that’s for sure!

Manu scored with a header to the far corner of the net at 5′ off a shot from Ozi. I almost fell off my chair! I couldn’t believe we scored so soon (but hey, no complaints from me)!

Crouchie picked up the first yellow of the game at 8′ for a late tackle on The Ramos (the nerve of him!) – it was rash and stupid. He’s laughing in this shot, but he wasn’t going to be laughing for long.

At 15′ after clearly losing his mind, Crouchie made an absolutely atrocious challenge against Marcelo. What the hell was he thinking?!

Xabi and Marcelo’s faces really say it all, don’t they? I was freaking out because Marcelo is just returning from injury, admitted that he wasn’t feeling 100% yet and then Crouchie pulled that? Argh. Marcelo was a freaking rock star this whole game – he was just everywhere! Crouchie was given a red card and sent off, leaving Tottenham to play the rest of the game (75+ minutes) with 10 men. Way to go, Crouchie. I’m sure everyone is really pleased back in London. Both of those cards could have been avoided.

Rafa can’t believe his eyes. Believe, Rafa. Crouchie just screwed your team most comprehensively. And adding injury to insult, it will be a little awkward for Arbeloa to trade shirts with him now. What are Raul & Alvaro going to play FIFA 11 in? THINK OF THE CHILDREN, CROUCHIE! Sheesh.

Pepe got a yellow card at 36′ which means that he will be out of the second leg next Wednesday. We have several players (Ronaldo, Marcelo and Ramos, for example) sitting on bookings which makes things very dangerous for us.

We came back from the half and Rafa was subbed out for Jermain Defoe. Not sure if that was the best idea, but I’m not Harry Redknapp, so there you go.

Manu got his second goal off another header at 57′ with a Marcelo assist. (This gives Manu a personal tally of 10 goals in 10 games against the Spurs. They must hate his guts). After being jeered this past weekend, he got to hear the Bernabeu singing his name. It must have been sweet.

Manu almost got a hat trick at 66′ but Gomes managed to knock the ball over the bar. (He was having a shit enough day at work, thank you very much.) And then, at 72′, it happened, Di Maria picked up the ball from Ozi and scored this absolute scorcher of a goal. So pretty!

Fideo did a belly slide to celebrate his goal and Madrid had to do their obligatory man pile. Oh, to be in the middle of all of that!

Mesut sure does look like he’s enjoying the hell out of that man pile, doesn’t he? Can’t blame him for that in the slightest! I was sure they had crushed wee little Fideo, but they managed to pick him up and he was in one piece.

BTW, there was an absolutely epic Sergio header during the game, just frigging amazing. I’m sure that una will have a shot of it tomorrow. I’ve been looking all over hoping to find one, but no joy. However, they did end up showing Sergio at his most flexible (AS FAR AS WE KNOW).

Boy, The Ramos is mad bendy and shit! It’s probably a good thing considering some of the things Maisougio plans to do to him! She managed to grab a screenshot of him mid-way through his Fiesta of Flexibility.

My oh my! His chiropractor must work overtime, just sayin’.  As the game went on the substitutions started. Lass had come on for Sami at 61′. Manu left the pitch to a well deserved standing ovation at 75′ as Pipita came on. At 77′ Di Maria went out while that scruffy dude who works down at the mini mart and looks stoned all the time came on for him and by that I mean Kaka.

He’s getting a bit too Geico Caveman for my tastes but his arse still looks quite nice. What do you think?  He looks like he would be happier shuffling around the house in coffee stained pajama pants and a wife beater reading the sports section (aka me on the days I work from home).  Cro Mag lookin’ or not, he provided the assist on Crispy’s 87th minute goal as we effectively buried Tottenham.

Cristiano ended his month long goal drought!  Whooooo! Maybe all he needed was his first wife, Kaka, back?

Ah, Criska!  Either he’s trying to ruffle Kaka’s hair affectionately or work some product into it so it looks less terrible. Either way works for me.

Pepe was overjoyed with Crispy’s goal and apparently forgot that Cris just came back from being injured. Let’s not break him, okay? We kinda have a shortage of healthy forwards, dude. Thou shalt not mangle any of of them!

Harry and Mou: great coaches of terrific teams, but today it was all about Madrid. The second leg takes place next Wednesday at White Hart Lane. Tomorrow, I’ll do a Put On Your Game Face Post, but now, I really need to go to sleep, it’s been a very long day.

HALA MADRID!

I think Dirty Tackle said it best “Kaka belongs to Jesus, and he’s starting to look like him.”

Don’t care still find Kaka absolutely adorable. That was quite a scorcher from Di Maria I have to say…..I’ll just ignore that it was Ade that scored those goals, and pretend it was Kaka instead ;-P

Ramos & that bending I was hoping you guys would comment on it, and you do not let me down.

Us? Miss a chance to be complete pervs about something? Are you nuts? We love that sort of thing more than we love the Academy Awards, chocolate cake, long walks on the beach and kittens. That header was so fucking gorgeous, I wanted to weep. The bending was the icing on our pervilicious footy-lovin’ cake.

Kaka looks disturbing and I can’t understand why he’s rocking this look right now. Maybe he really is going to Milan and he’s trying to emulate Gattuso to fit in? Well, if he has a go at Joe Jordan, we’ll know for sure.

Both Di Maria and Manu redeemed themselves after being so awful this past weekend.

I think we beat them hard enough to make the Gooners happy. Dirty Tackle called it a “live 90 minute snuff show” Ough! But I think that hits the nail right on the head.

        If only Crouchie had #stayedonhisfeet

    Mmm..flexible..flexible indeed..

    I get it! A DAY! 😉 Love it…
Was a great game. Astonishing to see Crouchie make such BAD mistakes. And Poor Rafa… He played his heart out for nuthin’. I felt bad watching him leave the field. It wasn’t the return he was hoping for. So, now Totts have a huge deficit to recover, so I think we may be ok to move on to the semi’s where we meet and destroy… Shark tar! ;-0 That is assuming that they destroy some other team that we don’t need to play 4 times in a one month stretch.

      OHH, a day?!
      ..Pfft. I..knew that..
      😕

You know me, I love a good word pun and I’m also a music geek so I had to get the extra joke in there.

Dinah W’s take on that classis is sublime… ’24 little ow-wahs…’ That lady’s got some serious soul.
I was trying to be funny above when I said ‘I get it!’, but I think some peeps thought I was serious!

Love, love, love her. I saw it as a chance to educate those who don’t know her fabulousness! 😉

    Now for my actual comment.

What a great match! It’s a shame it randomly started storming outside which meant the loss of a few of minutes of air-time, but at least I got to see all the magical moments.. 😉 Oh and the goals too.

I felt pretty bad for Álvaro when Crouch was sent off. Meh, who cares, we were one man up! He’ll get the shirt next time, I’m sure.

Over all, it was a positive debut for my unworn RM shorts. I think I’ll be keeping those..

No, seriously, he’s SO DAMN FLEXIBLE!!! 😮

    • headbandsandheartbreak April 6, 2011 at 1:43 pm #

My stream kept dropping in and out. It was deeply annoying, but since I was at work, I really can’t bitch about it, now can I?

I have Real Madrid boy short underwear. Yep, you heard me, Real Madrid panties.(Thanks, Ebay) I always wear them for weekday games where I can’t wear my jersey. 😉 They are cute as hell. So yes, keep the lucky shorts. Every time I don’t wear my RM paraphernalia, we have a bad game. So now, you have to wear the shorts and GinaM has to stay home “sick” for all Champions League games because if you don’t we’ll lose and it will be ALL YOUR FAULT! 😉

And yes, he is so damn flexible (said Nando). Sigh.

      • HermosaChica April 6, 2011 at 2:10 pm #

Aaaah! RM panties! The only ones I’ve found so far are made of lycra, which I don’t exactly feel comfortable in. It’s bad enough that I usually can’t sit still during matches, so I don’t want extra ants in my pants.. The only cotton pairs I found are for kids, so unless they’re meant for big kids, it’s unlikely that my butt would fit in them. 😛

And trust me, I’ll be wearing those shorts a lot more often!

        • headbandsandheartbreak April 7, 2011 at 12:54 pm #

Yeah, these are lycra. I would prefer something else, but game day is game day – I’ll suffer! 🙂

    • headbandsandheartbreak April 6, 2011 at 1:45 pm #

I will *try* to keep Maisougio from kicking your arse. 😉 But yeah, my brain went to the naughty too.

      GO SHAKHTAR GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’ve got the Schalke game downloading at home – can’t wait.

What a great game! Such a complete 180 from Saturday and it was wonderful. Even just to see Cristiano, Xabi & Marcelo take the field was enough to cure my foul mood that carried over from the weekend. The fact that my hubby Cris scored was just icing on the cake!

I choose to believe that Kaka is looking rough because his wife is about to have a baby! Maybe Caroline is having a tough time and keeping Ricky awake with her each night. Doing what, I will not speculate on 😉

    Hala Madrid!

    • headbandsandheartbreak April 7, 2011 at 12:55 pm #

Hopefully when the baby is born he’ll go back to fresh-faced Kaka?

      • emily April 8, 2011 at 12:14 pm #

        Babies don’t like stubble… I remember :-p

love the photos you’ve chosen to illustrate this post –
marcelo in mid-air, VDV’s face in response to crouch’s red card, adebayor in all his glory (still miss the dreads.)

fideo’s goal was pretty damn amazing, but it doesn’t even out my feelings for him re: his diving. (which, admittedly, was in check last night – for the most part).

kaka has been looking particularly gray and grizzled lately – almost homer simpson-esque, really. that being said, he’s still finer than most of what’s out there, no?

lastly, i’d just like to shout it from the rooftops once more: MARCELO! MY LOVE FOR YOU KNOWS NO BOUNDS!

    • headbandsandheartbreak April 6, 2011 at 1:48 pm #

There were so many good photos from this game and more still coming in.

Fideo behaved himself pretty well yesterday. I wanted to kick his ass on Saturday. That goal was a corker though.

I’ve come to the conclusion that Real’s version of looking like shit is still better than almost any team’s best looking day. Lucky us!

Marcelo is adorable and cheek pinchable (but I would never violate his personal space in a such a manner UNLESS HE ASKS POLITELY).

  8. Maisoun April 6, 2011 at 11:09 pm #

Is Peter Crouch the Runway model of Futbol? Cuz the boy looks S-T-A-R-V-E-D! I dont know how his bones dont end up shattered with all those tackles…

And jeez, am I the only one who thought that ref couldve been Will Ferrell’s bro? Cracks me up everytime I see a pic of him…now we just need a ref that looks like John C. Reilly 🙂

RM man pile? ummm..stop, rewind, slow motion, thank you.

Bendy Ramos—Homina Homina Homina! “Hey, y’all prepare yourself For the Headband man! You never heard a sound like the Headband man, you’re bound to lose control when the Headband man starts to jam!” thats been stuck in my head since the game…

    • headbandsandheartbreak April 7, 2011 at 12:57 pm #

Yeah, I’m surprised that Crouchie’s legs don’t snap like twigs!

      Hee! Will Ferrell’s bro. Classic.

Sergio has a new theme song! (I literally typed “dong” first. My mind. It is permanently broken. Argh.)

      • Maisoun April 7, 2011 at 5:51 pm #

LMAO! new “dong”…well I hope he doesnt need a new dong :/ from what I’ve seen through his shorts, the old one looked just fine to me…:P
