That’s Just How Football Is Sometimes…

1 May

Yeah, I’m feeling Mesut’s expression. Yesterday’s game was really frustrating. I think all the week’s drama really effected everyone because both Real Madrid and Barca lost their games yesterday (which preserves the 8 points between them in La Liga).

Our captains presented the Copa Del Rey to the Santiago Bernabeu faithful prior to the game and then Iker, being supportive as ever, gave the Cup to Sese to carry off the field. He also gave him a little pat on the arse to speed him on his way.

Hey, Iker, I don’t blame you! I’d take any excuse to get my hands on that fantastic butt too! Sergio, taking absolutely no chances, made sure to hold on to the Cup with both hands.

So, about the game… A team facing relegation is always going to be dangerous and Zaragoza put up one hell of a fight. This win has pulled them up 12th place in La Liga.

The first half, to be honest, was pretty damn boring. It didn’t help that it was pissing down rain. Now, that’s great for helping us to see through our team’s kits, but people were falling on their arses right and left and it was pretty frustrating.

Castilla’s Nacho started the game again and played through until the 53rd minute. It’s nice to see him getting some time with the first team.

Iker got way the hell out of his box as he has a tendency to do sometimes and it really cost us. He went to kick the ball out of the way, slipped and missed it. That allowed Lafita a shot at a completely empty net. The goal (at 41′ with an assist from Uche) was a totally preventable moment. A boneheaded mistake on our beloved San Iker’s part. I know, he’s human and makes mistakes but that did not need to happen. I still love him though.

The second half saw us look a bit more sprightly, but the game didn’t really pick up (IMHO) until Nacho went out at 53′ and Marcelo came on. He made an immediate impact.

Also substituted at 53′ Jailbait! went out and Angel Di Maria came on. Unfortunately, Carvalho stupidly fouled Lafita at 54′ and earned a yellow card. Gabi took the penalty kick and the score was 2-0. Argh. Di Maria earned our next yellow card at 58′. And our little Norma Desmond was diving all over the place. C’mon, Fideo, get your shit together! You’re too good of a player to pull that nonsense! We did count three rotations on one dive but he has yet to repeat his epic quadruple from a few weeks ago. ::rolls eyes::

At 60′ El Pirata went out and Ozil replaced him. What I think we were really missing this game was the creativeness of Ozil and Xabi. Don’t get me wrong, El Pirata did a good job, but Xabi’s absence is always rather glaring.

Hot wet Pirate. Just how I like it!

Mesut showed his worth immediately, sending a low cross right to Sergio Ramos who headed it in at 62′ and put us back in the game. Hala Ozil! Hala Ramos!

A sight we didn’t see often enough yesterday!

The big news was that when Sergio scored, he made the letter “T” with his hands and then fashioned a heart in the style of Angel Di Maria. Inquiring minds all over want to know what it meant and who it was directed at. My fondest hope? That the “T” stands for Torres! But I’m sure you knew exactly what I was thinking when I saw that! 🙂 I hope this gets picked up as a mad rumor and a shit ton of fan fic gets written about it. We need more Sernando fic! Just sayin’!

At 77′, Iker, obviously NOT learning from his prior mistake earlier, went all free range on our asses and left his box again. Argh! Iker, no! Stay!

The result? Lafita got another goal. I screeched in horror (as did Shiggers). The look on Sergio’s face in this shot mirrors our dissatisfaction.

“Ew! Being scored against is so last week!” said The Ramos

Thankfully, Karim thundered a gorgeous shot in at 85′ with an assist from Pipita to take the score up to 3-2.  Beautiful goal from our lovely Benz!

“Yes!”

Immediately afterward, Carvalho got his second yellow of the game for a challenge on Uche and was shown red at 86′ which means he is out of the Sevilla game.

“Who, me?!” Yeah, you!

Kaka almost had a last minute header which would have tied the score, but Doblas (who did a great job all game) managed to hold it just at the line. It was a good effort in the second half, but we just couldn’t recover from the blunders. Final score: 3-2 The sense of frustration was obvious in our boys’ faces.

(Note the fan in the background flipping the bird happily at someone)

Some days, it’s just not meant to be. I would have loved if we could have won or tied just so we could have gotten a bit closer to Barca in the table. I think that would have been a big boost for our confidence going into the Champions League game on Tuesday.

Mou took the blame for the loss as he felt that he did not motivate the team enough: “Our opponent fought hard. These points were very important to them to remain in the First Division. Psychological preparation is important in football. It makes a difference when one team is completely motivated and the other isn’t. If we lacked that sort of motivation, then I am to blame because I am the coach. Nevertheless, we’ve played more difficult games, such as the one against Valencia, in which we played very well and won.”

“We did not play well in the first half, but we did after half-time. It was totally different. We allowed our opponent to score three goals with ease and they grew tighter in defense, capitalising on their luck and the fact that time was running out. We couldn’t score more goals. I wish to congratulate Zaragoza.”

Protecting his players till the end, that’s our Mou! Anyhow, just a few other quick pix from the game and then I have to get back to writing this long paper for class that is due tomorrow.  The press seemed as bored with the first half as I was as evidenced by the number of times we got to see Cris and his girlfriend Irina making out in the stands. More shocking that that? I actually saw her, a supermodel, put some food in her mouth! Impressive!

Kaka looks like he’s channeling Dan Hedaya!

“What on earth are we going to do with this damn thing?”
Um, I dunno, maybe put it in the net?!

Worst picture EVER of Jailbait!

Better-ish, with added package action

Double booty cuties!

“Can you see this, Nando?!”

“OMFG! Real subtle, Ramos!”

The Ramos is not a chair! Sit on something else!

And finally, an absolutely scrumptious picture of Arbeloa and Sese that I meant to post yesterday. How gorgeous are they?! Sergio’s hair, though messy, makes him look hella yum!  And Alvaro biting his lip? PHWOAR!

Onward now to Tuesday! Let’s pray this game is sportsmanlike and nothing like last week’s hideous disaster. Fair play, y’all! HALA MADRID!

It’s really sad that we lose points in games like this. But Barca’s loss made it a little less bitter, no?
yes! The “T” stands for Torres, let’s stick to that 😉
Lozil: you know how much I was dying to see that last pic??? THANK YOU!!!!

BTW: has Sergio changed his hair color? (again)

Ahhh, this match was SO frustrating! It’s like the ball just didn’t want to go in! The worst part for me was Carvalho’s tackles. Seriously, what the crap mate? It did NO good at all! Just gave them a penalty and the fact that you’re missing the next match! AGAIN! Ozil was awesome, definitely added heaps to the game and that cross was amazing! A great Serzil effort! To be honest I thought this match would be a breeze! Well maybe not a breeze but pretty dang easy! Another Valencia match! (speaking of which, I found this video, and OH.MY.GOD you guys. You HAVE to watch it. Ozil turned out to be such a clown! He’s so freaking fun! They all are! I’d love to hang out in the sub bench if I were a player! Here it is I hope you can view it: http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=208058072558011 I have NO idea what the commentator is saying, a translation would be much appreciated, but I still laughed my head off at the happenings!) that said, you can never predict what happens, which has an upside: you never know what’ll happen against Barcelona! Maybe Cris will score an amazing hatrick and BAM we’re right smack in the middle of the final.
Isabella, I don’t think he dyed it again! It’s been like that for a while now! I’m just glad it’s not blond again.. God that was bad. In my opinion at least.

whenever marcelo’s on the bench, you know there’ll be some hilarity. una discussed the bench at the valencia game in her blog. its not the first time ozil has loosened up. i love it!

i can only hope that mou has got something incredible planned for tuesday. resting ronaldo is one thing. but why would he not sub in ozil and di maria at half time when it was SO obvious we needed help in attack. kaka and higuain were pretty useless yesterday. i’m all for boosting kaka’s return but lets do it in pockets and not whole games at a time, okay?
all this tells me that ozil and di maria are going to have big roles on tuesday, i hope.

i think el pirata is doing a good job in filling alonso’s shoes. i love alonso, but he doesnt have a superb game everytime he plays. i think esteban should be allowed an off game too..
plus…he looks so hot in white.

maybe its been cause i’ve been starved of mesut playing time since the whole clasico nonsence started, but everytime the camera was on him yesterday, he looked like a million dollars.

Sorry, I don’t follow Una’s blog. So I got majorly excited when I saw it because I hadn’t seen it before. I don’t think anyone has a superb game EVERY time. But as good as Granero is I don’t think he orchestrates the midfield as well as Xabi. Oh hell yeah, is it just me or is Mesut PHYSICALLY getting more amazing to look at every time he gets on that pitch?

        • maddy May 2, 2011 at 12:13 am #

you should follow una’s blog. its amazing!!

i would love for ozil to start in every game (except the clasicos, i stand by his worth as a half time sub). but he looks so good waiting to be subbed in, and then running onto the field to the cheers of the bernabeu. i love it!

Yeah, I heard it’s awesome there too but I really don’t have enough time to be a dual-blog-checker. I’ll sergiously (see what I did there?) fail uni. Badly. So yeah, I’m just going to hang here if no one minds. Haha. Plus, Lozil links us to the best Una blogs anyway!

            • maddy May 2, 2011 at 7:17 am #

yeah..i understand. thank god i’m no longer in uni (that makes me feel so old).

una is a journalist i think so she gets a lot of inside info. get in there once in a while.. dont comment, that takes time 😛

              • IsaBella May 2, 2011 at 7:24 am #

c’mon maddy, I’m relatively “old” too and I’m still at uni: makes me feel younger jajaja 😉

              • Mais May 2, 2011 at 7:42 am #

God, I feel like such a baby when I’m on here.. haha. Uni has no specific age dudes! I know people from there whose ages range from 18-55 so either way I’m sure you’re a very hip, young person! 😉

                • IsaBella May 2, 2011 at 7:54 am #

of course it doesn’t! that’s why I’m there jajaja 😉 dejando de bromear… I really feel like getting that degree 😉

                • maddy May 2, 2011 at 8:01 am #

i just got my degree. and now i’m like now what.
i wish i were 2 years younger…so i dont feel like ozil is my boy toy

                  • IsaBella May 2, 2011 at 8:07 am #

hey, 2 years is not that big a difference 😉 Ozi does not qualify for a toy boy in this case 😉

                    • Mais May 2, 2011 at 8:42 am #

When comparing, Ozil could be my cougar. Hahaha no jk, he’s only born 2 days before me! *cough-and-3-years-cough*

                    • maddy May 2, 2011 at 8:48 am #

he;s 3 years older than you? that’s perfect!! lucky you.

                    • maddy May 2, 2011 at 8:49 am #

which makes me 4 years older than you. great, now i feel ancient..

                    • IsaBella May 2, 2011 at 9:25 am #

                      How old is Ozil? 😉

                    • IsaBella May 2, 2011 at 9:32 am #

ok, I checked his age: GIRLS you are sooooo young both of you….. now I’m jealous…..

    • IsaBella May 2, 2011 at 5:13 am #

Oh definetely, the blond was bad, I agree. But I think he added some blond stripes to the caramel, IMO. I like it though and I guess I’ll do the same at my next hairstylist appointment 😉

      • Mais May 2, 2011 at 6:20 am #

Oh you guys are just terrible! Haha. He wears that tape for… precaution. He doesn’t want his muscles to cramp and things. Look:

Oh, my boy looks good in blue.. 😉

        • IsaBella May 2, 2011 at 6:26 am #

OMG how slim was he on these pics (!!!) I never paid attention to his old photos…

          • Mais May 2, 2011 at 6:29 am #

ARE YOU SAYING HE’S FAT NOW?!!! hahaha no just kidding, I get you 😉

            • IsaBella May 2, 2011 at 6:33 am #

he has more muscles xD but still looks slim.

              • Mais May 2, 2011 at 6:38 am #

Haha I know I’m only kidding xxx

          • Mais May 2, 2011 at 6:44 am #

I just realised I wrote my comment in the wrong post! Haha. The tape was just too much to witness and stay straight-headed. I meant to put it in the other post where you talked about the neck tape. But you can just imagine that I put it there 🙂

            • IsaBella May 2, 2011 at 6:47 am #

              sure, no te preocupes 😉

  3. headbandsandheartbreak May 2, 2011 at 11:02 am #

      • IsaBella May 2, 2011 at 11:10 am #

smells false… it would be great BTW 😉

    • IsaBella May 2, 2011 at 11:11 am #

for me it’s enough to know that RM boys are younger than me (like 90% of them…) to make me feel old 😉

i also just read that sahin is almost a madridista. MOU YOU PROMISED NO MAJOR SIGNINGS. who is going to make way for him huh? lass? kaka? i hope its either of the two. i hope this doesnt stifle ozil’s road to magnificence. dumb move on sahin’s part. he would have been guaranteed success at champs league with dortmund next year. what is it about madrid that draws players to it, even if it could mean warming the bench for a while? oh yeah, our awesomeness

    • GinaM May 2, 2011 at 1:04 pm #

Yea I heard that too this morning, I also heard that UEFA rejected Madrid’s case against Barca. That’s a low blow for UEFA, I hope they still fine the racist comments of Busquets that slim ball deserves a suspension, a fine, and a public apology considering his club is soooo against racisim. Actually I think Barca should come out and apologize for the racist incident all together.

      • maddy May 2, 2011 at 1:07 pm #

the upside is the UEFA rejected barca’s complaints against madrid too..

also the video of the monkey incident is finally on the madrid website and had warranted a mention of the most pro-barca site of all time (goal.com). so people are finally talking about it. also madrid posting the video lends some credence to it cause there’s no way anyone could think that madrid would fabricate such a story…

        • GinaM May 2, 2011 at 1:27 pm #

True, if they turn a blind eye on the monkey video I’d be pretty disappointed… I really hope tomorrow’s game goes well. I’d like to watch some good football with no fights and no drama. And I really believe we have a chance.

You know what’s funny after Barca’s game Alves outright declared that Pepe deserved the red card LOL come on buddy we all saw the video, I think that Pepe should have gotten a yellow, but what makes me laugh is that Alves acted even got on the stretcher and video proof shows he wasn’t even touched and he still has the audacity to lie. Alright that’s my rant for the day 🙂

          • maddy May 2, 2011 at 1:34 pm #

alves – i’m just going to pretend like he doesnt exist from now on. maybe if everyone did the same he’ll disappear.

busquets, pedro, villa, pique, valdes, xavi – i’m so glad i’m not team Spain cause it would take a LOT of forgiveness for me to able to root for them at euro 2012. i hope Germany wins it all.

            • GinaM May 2, 2011 at 1:44 pm #

I am so with you on this one. Everyone is talking about how they are worried how Spain will do as a national team after the events of the recent Clasico’s. I am cheering for Germany too!!!
