Once More Into The Abyss

2 May

Cute boys being cute

This is going to have to be a super quickie as I’m in the midst of a hellish workday which will be followed by a hellish evening trying to finish a paper that is due tomorrow.  Much to report and very little time to do it…

Our boys had their final practice today before tomorrow’s game with Barca. I tell you, I can’t bear to watch, but I will. I just so want these fucking Clasicos to be over. I’m sick and tired of all the angst from both sides. Seems like everyone else is too. Sid Lowe had a good article today about the whole big balagan.

As you probably have already read, UEFA dismissed Real Madrid and Barca’s complaints against each other.  Aitor Karanka and Pep Guardiola had their press conferences today and it was pretty much as you would expect. However, it seems as if Pep kinda confirmed the Busquets-Marcelo incident in his remarks here

The Barcelona coach, Pep Guardiola, refused to condemn Busquets, saying his player had merely made a “mistake” and that it would be up to Uefa to decide if he should be punished.

“I know these players. They are an example of professionalism,” said the Barcelona coach. “They love this sport. Some of them, during the game, can make a mistake but as players they are exemplary both for Spain and for Barcelona.”

Asked if he would punish Busquets he said: “We are not proud when they make mistakes but I know these players. If we do something wrong, then Uefa have to decide. What is in the past is in the past. It won’t happen again.”

Sid Lowe tweeted about this and then back pedaled slightly on Twitter.

Pep’s language definitely appears to confirm the racial slur. You don’t say “It won’t happen again” if it didn’t happen in the first place. While I do believe that UEFA needs to make a decision, I also think that Barca needs to mete out some sort of punishment if Busquets is found guilty. If they do not, it will send the wrong message to the world. They have come out against racism and mounting campaigns, if they do not act on the principles they espouse, then they will look like massive hypocrites and I know that I for one will lose a great deal of respect for them. I’ll be interested to see what happens with this. It can’t be swept under the rug, it must be dealt with.

In much happier news, I am thrilled to report Eric Abidal is doing much better and was even called up for the squad  tomorrow although Pep says he probably won’t play. Congratulations, Eric! May your recovery keep progressing and all my very best wishes. You’ve made amazing progress in a short time.

Here’s our squad for tomorrow, sorry for the lack of pictures in this update!

Goalkeepers: Casillas, Dudek, Adan
Defenders: Carvalho, Marcelo, Arbeloa, Albiol, Garay, Nacho
Midfielders:  Granero, Kaka, Lass, Alonso, Di Maria, Ozil
Forwards: Adebayor, Higuain, Ronaldo, Benzema

More later if I finish that bloody paper. ARGH! Hala Madrid!

    congrats eric. that is fantastic!
wow. to me those words read that the only way any action is going to be taken is uefa does something. barca will not. this is wrong on so many levels especially with pep all but confirming it was said. grow a pair and do something about this uefa and barca.
i feel you on the whole can’t bear to watch but will. with many, many glasses of vino. or tequila. can’t decide. is it said to play a drinking game alone with shots anytime sergio, alves, or pedro fake an injury. wait…my liver can’t handle that. lol.

I would hope that if UEFA does something, Barca will too. I would be very disappointed if it wasn’t addressed.

Thanks for the update girls! A hellish night is going on right now at my end as well. 😦 i’ve been getting by with a glance at The Thigh from Una’s blog every 30 mins or so. lol!

I’ve had a fair share of racist remarks thrown at me both on and off the pitch myself (not easy being a brown brit), so this whole issue is really digging deep at me on a personal level. I’m glad Pep at least addressed it, even if he didn’t *really* confirm. It’s such a mess and you’re def right, can’t be ignored.

Anyway, onto brighter and better things- we’ll get through it!! *group hug* *drag RM boys into it*

cosi, i am so sorry you had to endure that type of bullshit. e-hug. i just question wth is wrong with people that the color of someone’s skin actually means something to them. 100% rediculous. i already know from here that you are a fantastic person 😉
hope all is ok on your end with the hellish night 😦

okay..dare i say this, i dreamt that we won 4-0 tonight.. and schalke managed to overturn their draw too. what’s wrong with me? if the miraculous outcome is us winning tonight, i cant wait to meet raul in the finals. if not, i want man u to drag barca through the mud :P. but i wouldnt put it past raul/howedes/neuer overcoming barca. they are pretty awesome you know

Ahhhh! NOT AGAIN!!! I can’t take this anymoreeeee, for serious.

And Busquets….I mean, it sickens SICKENS me if he said that. Absolutely NOT what Barca is about- in fact the opposite. I know these players say awful awful things to one another on the field but racial remarks = NEVER acceptable. It’s not just a “mistake”, Pep…

Good luck on everything Lozil- thanks for the entertainment despite you being so busy!!!

I’m with you – I’m OVER Clasicos. I want to go back to happy drooling and enjoying hot boys with 100% less angst. Let’s hope both teams have a good solid game and no drama.

will someone tell me its all gonna be okay so i can get some pregame sleep (kick off at 12.15 am where i am). i cant bear another massive injustice happening to our boys tonight. ozil will be broken. cris will kill someone. xabi will get banned from football for telling the ref what he thought. and i will never love again cause its too painful

All we can do now is have faith in our team.

They have over turned odds like this before, I know this game is going to be different then the other Classicos!!! It will be beautiful football, our boys will shine!

And also remember how far the team has come this season! We finally made it this far in champions league since a few years! Also we won COPA DEL REY

All we can do now is support!!!!
