A Record Smashing, Nose Busting, Debuting Kind of Day

11 May

Wowsa! Crissy is just on fire this season! With his hat trick today, he has become Real Madrid’s  all time top scorer across a single season. Over all competitions he has scored a total of 49 goals…thus far! (36 goals in La Liga, 6 in the Champions League and 7 in the Copa del Rey).  You just have to recognize – the guy can score! Do you remember at the beginning of the season where we were all discussing his goal drought? Yeah, not so much anymore, eh? At this point, he’s 5 goals ahead of Leo Messi for the pichichi.  He is also on track to break the all time leading season scoring record for Real Madrid of 38  goals (set by Hugo Sanchez in 1989/90).  He is also the only player in La Liga  to have scored 6 hat tricks in one season. And 7 goals in the last 2 games. Damn, boy!

So go, Crissy, go! But, of course, a guy doesn’t get there all on his own. It takes the support of his teammates and can we just take a moment to recognize one of the best things to happen to Real Madrid in ages? And by that, I mean my boo, Mesut Ozil!

Some stats… Passes that lead to shots:  1. Özil (107) 2. Xabi Prieto (76) 3. Jose A. Reyes (72) … 6. Xavi (67)  Most assists in La Liga: Messi (19), Mesut Özil(17), Dani Alves (13), Mata (13), Xabi Prieto (12) . Also, 5 assists in 4 days. Not too shabby, baby!

There’s so many great players on our team – we’ve had our ups and downs this season – but I’m really looking forward to seeing what we can do next year. HALA MADRID!

This is gonna be quick and dirty because I’m just exhausted and really need to get some sleep. Please forgive me!

First up, mad props to Antonio Adan who made his third appearance in goal this season. 3 games, 3 clean sheets! Iker would be proud!

As Iker, Sergio and Gago were not present, we got to see Captain Marcelo for the second time this season. Hooray! Wanna hear something disturbing? Marcelo is only five years older than Justin Bieber. Well, until Thursday when he will be six years older. Does that fact disturb you as much as it does me?  Another upsetting fact? Marcelo is only 5 months older than Mesut Ozil!!!!!  ::heads exploding everywhere:: I KNOW! I was shocked too!

Gotta move on from thinking about that so I don’t get brain matter on my computer screen. Too freaking sobering to contemplate.  We started the scoring party at 24′ with a goal from Crissy with an assist from Mesut. Start as you mean to go on, I say!

Pepe gave a reprise of his goal celebration with Cris from this past weekend. Hey, why not? It went over well the first time. Plus, two guys gleefully wrapping their bodies around each other always goes down a treat at HB & HB!  It would be the only goal of the first half. The second half kicked off and we kicked into gear. However, we had a big scare at 55′ when Adan had a collision with Colunga’s knee that looked pretty damn painful. He was a trouper though and got back up. However, Mejias started warming up just in case. Minute 58′ saw Crissy score again, with the assist from Ozil. Mesut could have scored, but passed it to Cris for the tap in. Crozil make a fantastic pair, don’t they? Also one of the most productive collaborations in La Liga this season. How in the hell did they get Ozil for only 15 million? Best bargain (and signing) of the year, IMHO!

At 76′ Mou made a double substitution: Higuain out, Benzema in. Ozil out, Adebayor in. And what did Benzema do within 14 seconds of coming on? He freaking scored! (Beating out that 48 second goal in Champions League vs. Lyon). Amazing!

Yes, he scored with his second touch on the ball, but it would have never been possible without an absolutely gorgeous pass from Xabi Alonso. All hail Mr. Perfect! Whoooooo! At 84′ Mou did a lovely, lovely thing. He subbed Adan out and let Tomy Mejias make his first team debut.

Post match he said “I was very surprised when I was told to warm up. It all happened so fast… I was warming up and, suddenly, I was on the pitch playing, which is what I most like to do. I’ve thought of everyone dear to me, like my grandfather and my parents. They will all be very happy tonight… Just as happy as I am.”  He is the 8th youth team member to debut under Mou this season. I’m so glad to see Mou encouraging the kids. Congratulations, bebeh!

There were a few more near misses including one beautiful shot from Xabi at 89′ and then Mane did something really stupid. He took Cris down in the box. Argh. Penalty kick to Crissy and he completed his hat trick at 92′.

And that was that. Getafe (or shall we call them Team Dubai?) will probably be relegated now along with Almeria and Hercules. During the first half, Cris cleared a ball and it hit a fan in the face. After final time, he sought out the man, gave him a shirt and posed for pictures with him. I thought that was a very sweet gesture. And bonus, we get to see him shirtless!

He also flashed a little thigh when taken down during the game. Hooray! Now,  I’m not saying that he should hit people in the face or get injured all the time. God forbid! I’m just saying that maybe he needs to take off his clothes more often. Can I get an amen?

Stupid clothes covering hot ‘baller bodies all the time! What the hell is all that about?! Oh, I almost forgot, the day’s other debut was Mou’s new haircut. I love it.

Very spiffy, no? Well, he always looks spiffy too me. Totes biased about his silver foxiness, I am. Can’t even front. He’s hot. A couple of other quick things.

Um, Derek Boateng looks for all the world like he’s giving Mesut a VERY unwanted, non-consensual horsey ride on his knee there. Yikes!

You know who was looking mighty yummy, both on and off the pitch? Pipita. Witness the hotness for yourself.

And here’s  a sweet little moment between two close friends – Pepe also had a great game. Solid as a rock, that guy.

And the final shot of the night is a rather perverted, relatively mind boggling one. It’s good to see most of our starting XI rising to the challenge, as it were. They say it’s the adrenalin. I’m sure it has nothing to do with being close to a bunch of hot guys, oh no!

And on that note, it’s finally time for me to go to bed and stop warping all your minds. I apologize in advance for any typos! ::yawn:: Only 2 more games to go, you guys! What on earth will we do without the boys?!

this game had a lot of great moments, but the best is a tie between

    1. ozil passing ronaldo the ball even though there was an open goal in front of him
    2. ronaldo giving the fan his shirt after the game (still waiting for some sort of apology from messi after slamming the ball into the crowd in anger).

real madrid have absolutely the best team spirit in the world at the moment. no club can compare. i think it all changed with last summers signings. the summer before we spent big money on superstars. last summer we bought youngsters for dirt cheap whose only dream was to play at a big club.

i hope karim gets more and more playing time. higuain is not a 100% yet. and while i like higuain,

    karim at 100% >> higuain at 100%

ozil off for adebayor? WHY IS ADE STILL PLAYING? is mou trying to help man city out but making ade more marketable?

I was on the bus when I read this and for what seemed like half an hour I was staring at the screen with a blank expression on my face. The Justin Beiber thing? Oh.my.God! It’s painful to think about! Which is why I won’t be!

The game was awesome (apparently. My foxtel decided to stop working this morning. argggghhh). All I could say after watching the highlights was: Ozil, you perfect thing.. he is just amazing. Ditto Ronnie, he is on a freaking roll, hopefully it’ll last for a long time.

Maddy, I think part of why Ozi was subbed out is because he was probably tired! He’s a man, not a machine!! And while he’s spectacular, when he’s playing it seems to me that he gets tired before others, which is totally his right! Like I always say, he’s like that piece of mercury in a thermometer, just zooming around all over the place.

Messi has A LOT to learn from Cris. He should attend an Awesomeness101 class.

mesut does have stamina issues..but i think he’s come a long way since last year when he never finished a full 90 mins. he also doesnt look too happy when he’s subbed out these days. i’m not too mad that he was subbed out, i’m mad that adebayor was subbed in. it should have been ozil for granero. that way it would have been at least a semi even switch. adebayor is absolutely useless and all he’s good for is giving away free kicks with ridiculous tackles..

people can poke fun at cris for his tanning bed all they want, but no one’s complaining about his bronze goodness when he takes his shirt off.

I loved how the boys were passing to Cris – they want him to score so badly – it is the sweetest thing.

Ade did it twice, Benzi did it, Mesut did it – so sweet!

Mesut hasn’t only got the second highest number of assists – and might still get the most in the league with two games to go (please GOD! thank you!) – he’s matched Madrid’s highest assister in a league season. Figo had 17 assists in 2000-2001.

I would love it if Mesut kept racking them up. As it is, matching Figo is pretty incredible! Figo was an established star and the biggest signing in history to that point. Mesut is just the fresh-faced infant from the Bundesliga!

Best piece of business Madrid ever did!

    • maddy May 11, 2011 at 1:58 am #

sigh. how many of you lovely ladies am i gonna have to knock down before i claim my rightful place and mesut’s bride? 😛

      • Jenny May 11, 2011 at 9:40 am #

At my age, Mesut is practically jailbait. Legal but scarcely moral.

        Wouldn’t stop me though…

        • maddy May 11, 2011 at 10:04 am #

i was in a bit of a moral conundrum about it too, but i got over it quick.

        • headbandsandheartbreak May 11, 2011 at 1:28 pm #

Team Lozil! haha no offense to anyone, I just gotta have her back on this one 😛

          • Anonymous May 11, 2011 at 6:46 pm #

Cough, cough. You girls make me feel really old now. Had I started a bit earlier (you know what I mean), I could well be Mesut’s mother. Lol. He’s so precious. I love him!

            • headbandsandheartbreak May 11, 2011 at 7:58 pm #

Heh. Don’t you worry, there are plenty of people who read this blog who could be Mesut’s mama and then some. Honest!

  5. IsaBella May 11, 2011 at 6:24 am #

I must admit that I watched the game half asleep in my bed so I missed most of it… Anyway, I think the best moment was when Cristiano gave that shirt to the fan, I really loved it. And I’m not a Cristiano fan.
Great game boys, and hopefully Cristiano gets the pichichi. It would be some kind of consolation after losing the Liga. 😉

  6. maddy May 11, 2011 at 6:29 am #

cristiano’s hair looked really good last night.

i’ve seen adan play before, but still, it was weird seeing someone else in iker’s clothes 🙂

did anyone notice the swagger tomas mejias had when he came on. so cute.

    • IsaBella May 11, 2011 at 6:30 am #

Mejias is very cute, isn’t he? 🙂

      • maddy May 11, 2011 at 6:32 am #

What a wonderful game. Cristiano and Ozil make such a pair!

Some people say such awful things about Cris, but he is wonderful person. When he took his shirt off, I was like “JACKPOT!” Then I realized that he was seeking out the injured fan to give away his shirt and it brought a tear to my eye! And he not only gave him his shirt (as I think any decent person would have done), but talked to him and posed for pictures too. Situations like this just affirm my love for him 😉

And I LOVE that he broke a RM record last night and is on track to score 50 goals before the season is over. He deserves the Pichichi and I’m glad his chances are looking so good!

Finally, how awesome was it to see Adan start and Mejias able to make his debut? I was so happy for both of them! And captain Marcelo 🙂

I’ve just discovered this site a few weeks ago and absolutely love it. I’m a die hard Madrid fan, who unfortunately only speaks English. I love your coverage and especially translation of Marca or other only Spanish Interviews/stories. Do you guys ever make Wallpapers? I want some new ones I can put on my work Computer to get the Uefalona fans around me worked up. Thanks again for being here!

    • GinaM May 11, 2011 at 12:02 pm #

There a site linked on this site that has some pretty good pictures. I usually use them for wallpaper 🙂

    • headbandsandheartbreak May 11, 2011 at 1:17 pm #

      Hey there –

Welcome and I’m glad you like the blog! I can’t take credit for those translations – they’re just links to the wonderful unamadridista’s Following Real Madrid and Con La Roja blogs. They’re both under the Sites We Love section.

As for wallpapers, I don’t make any but some of our more talented folks here might. What I’m currently using for my wallpaper is the sepia tone non-captioned version of this wallpaper made by Jose’s Blackbook: http://joses-blackbook.tumblr.com/post/5075403523/joses-desk-a-reminder-of-better-times

That’s another one of the Sites We Love. It’s a must-read!

      • shiggers May 11, 2011 at 3:10 pm #

HA! Had the same one up until yesterday. Made a pact with one of my colleagues to take down my Real wallpaper if he took down his Barca wallpaper.
