Bits and Bobs: May 19

19 May

Little bits of news from here and there today. This is a doozy though. The other day in London, Kaka and Robin Van Persie played paintball in a novel way. There were soccer balls covered in paint that they kicked at a bunch of kids that are running around. Um, okay. Not sure who thought that would be a good promotional idea but there you go.

Sid Lowe has a very good story on Raul up on Sports Illustrated: Schalke move has revitalized Raúl

Football365.com poses the question: Does Ronaldo deserve to be the best? in regards to this season’s Pichichi. My short answer? “Yes and STFU”

Jailbait! got around to seeing Midnight in Paris today and loved it, just like El Pirata and Xabi. Seriously, is there only one movie showing in Madrid?!

That Hot Guy That I’m Currently Having Issues With (aka The Ramos) is ending his Twitter shirt contest tomorrow at 5:00 PM Spanish time. Get your guesses in, pronto. All the info is in the linked post above.

He tweeted two pictures from the return trip and they’re cute so I’ll post them but I’m still mad:

Giggling Iker and Photobombing Cris are a thing of beauty

That Guy and Chendo

Some more shots from yesterday’s trip to Lorca that I found interesting:

The signs should say “4 men in need of media training”

I love, love, love this picture of Cris!

Unamadridista posted a translation of a great interview with Iker today where he took on among other topics, Racistgate. She also put up this fantastic picture of Pepe as part of an article on the Apascovi golf benefit.

And finally, Dirty Tackle’s Random Musings of Footballers Before They Fall Asleep features the Unicef tramp stamp from the Barca kit and the possible La Masia valedictorian (and Angel “Norma Desmond” Di Maria Award winner) in about 15 years. Give it time, kid. You’ll get better. 😉

In spite of my frequent rants about the man’s hair, Iker is my hero. Flat out.

D’awwwww! Cris’s smile is sooooo adorable as he does his Grand Run Away. Looks like he’s having so much fun with them chasing him.

Just so you know, boy,I’d like to chase you too! 😛

P.S: Lozil, I love your *little* 😀 rant on The One Whom Lozil No Longer Speaks Of [by name anyhoo].

I’ll speak of him eventually, but I am not pleased with him right now. ::pouts::

You think una reads my blog? ::blushes:: Why? I’m not cool enough for her to read my blog. I mean, she’s…unamadridista! I would be honored though. I’m a fan of her’s definitely.

      • RealSleiebtra7 May 20, 2011 at 3:18 pm #

        Lozil dear,

I propose that you should be selected to personally give Sese sum gud hard wa-tishing, and not with flimsy headbands either! What you think?

Then after his whipping session, you could cool him down with some light headband wa-tishing?

Oh Nom Nom… 😉 I’m reminded of a slash where there is Iker, Sese and ‘punishment’ with Iker’s gloves.

::Gasp!:: Do you want me to die?!?!?! If I even vaguely attempted to wa-tish That Guy, Maisougio would KILL ME! That’s her job.

I’ll let her do all the wa-tishing for me in that respect. Maisougio! Get out there and start “punishing!” 😉

Thanks also for the reading recommendation. 🙂

          • Maisoun May 21, 2011 at 12:46 pm #

I will do my punishing duty proudly on behalf of this blog & Wa-tishistas everywhere! 😉

I tweeted Sergio asking if chains & whips excite him a la Rihanna but he hasnt replied yet..will keep y’all posted 😛

Robin van Persie is the only thing that keeps EPL alive in my eyes..

i’m beyond disappointed in granero after his ‘training session’ comment. what the hell happened to him. how did the manage to put his foot in his mouth so bad. so out of character.

    • headbandsandheartbreak May 20, 2011 at 11:01 am #

Actually, I’m more concerned about the racially insensitive comment that he made in his RMTV interview. *That* was upsetting. The practice comment was just stupid.

the thing about china? i heard about it but i missed it in the interview i didnt see it?

        • headbandsandheartbreak May 20, 2011 at 11:22 am #

You can read una’s translation here. We linked to it in an older HB & HB post.

          • maddy May 20, 2011 at 11:26 am #

could you paste the comment. i couldnt find it when i read it and i still cant? is it the one about the gas stations?? am i blind?

            • headbandsandheartbreak May 20, 2011 at 11:33 am #

I’m at work now and don’t have time to dig through the interview (and I’m also trying to get a post up here). It’s pretty easy to spot because A. it’s a jaw dropper of insensitivity and B. una comments that it’s not nice in parantheses.

              • maddy May 20, 2011 at 11:38 am #

okay. was it about japan being used to suffering a lot? or about chinese being happy with less? when you have time, please let me know?

                • headbandsandheartbreak May 20, 2011 at 11:51 am #

Cripes – it’s right there and una comments on it within the article! He says all Chinese people look alike. 😦

                  • maddy May 20, 2011 at 12:03 pm #

man esteban, what a foot in mouth thing to say. i’m going to go through the interview for the 500th time with my glasses on.

                    • maddy May 20, 2011 at 12:45 pm #

oh i just saw it. duh.

“That Hot Guy Who I’m Currently Having Issues With…” Oh, you’re not alone on that score 😦

Iker’s Marca interview was as no-nonsense and enlightening as always. Maybe it’s his maturity, but I like him the more I hear him express himself in interviews. Integrity and commonsense- man, you can’t buy that!

Funny post- keep up the good work 🙂

i didnt understand the paintball game. kicking balls at kids…is it Messi inspired??

    • headbandsandheartbreak May 20, 2011 at 11:30 am #

I don’t understand the paintball game either but I can think of a huge list of people that I wouldn’t mind kicking a paint covered football at. Hey Shigs, can you arrange something similar for my birthday? I’m going to start practicing my long range Altintop shot just in case you can. 😉

      • Maisoun May 21, 2011 at 12:42 pm #

I cant see how that game is fun for anyone besides the ones chosen to kick the balls lol …& did I hear the commentator shout “In the face!!” Sounds like my kind of game 😛

        • headbandsandheartbreak May 21, 2011 at 1:00 pm #

Today in the laundromat, I swear that I heard that stupid (now scary to me) cartoon band The Doodlebugs singing “our favorite thing is to drink blood” and then something about Botox. Either my hearing is shot or Saturday morning cartoons have changed since I was a kid. Or maybe it was that painkiller I took for my back….hmmmm….

          • Maisoun May 22, 2011 at 5:19 pm #

“our favorite thing is to drink blood” lol that reminds me of the subliminal messaging in Josie & The Pussycat songs..CreepyX10

Most kids stuff today freaks the hell out of me, they’re cartoons are so disturbing! Check out this commercial, the baby’s eyes make me nervous :/

            • headbandsandheartbreak May 22, 2011 at 10:23 pm #

Holy crap! That was terrifying. Apparently, the “blood drinkers” are called The Doodlebops, not bugs. Doesn’t make them any less terrifying. Check out the song at the end: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIbBsTMuTs

              • Maisoun May 23, 2011 at 9:54 pm #

The vid wouldnt play…but I looked The Doodlebops up & OMG that orange guy!! Kids are so much tougher nowadays because I know I wouldve cried if those were the kinds of cartoons I had to watch! lol

  6. shiggers May 20, 2011 at 10:36 am #

I kind of thought the paintball game was inspired overall. Wish I’d thought of it when my nieces and nephews were small. Shh! Don’t tell my sister-in-law that.

    • headbandsandheartbreak May 20, 2011 at 11:25 am #

I’m totally telling her that at the wedding. I cracked up when I saw that video. I thought of the Park Slope mamas getting all up in arms and claiming child abuse if they saw that.
