UPDATED: Gettin’ Excited For Foxboro!

3 Jun

“Yo, Shiggers! I want your fine arse in Boston ASAP!”

Iker’s got Facebook fever again and I love him for it. He posted a ton of pictures from his Campus de fútbol Iker Casillas in Mostoles and here are just a couple…

He also shared, in his lovely Google Translate Ikerlish, that this a special anniversary for him.

Sigh. Eleven years ago today, little could anyone know what was ahead for the sweet boy from Mostoles. He has had an amazing career thus far and more triumphs are to come. Hala Iker!

He also posted a picture of The Double As.  Chori’s eyebrows never cease to amaze me. Here’s Iker hanging with Joan Capdevila, who got held at Customs because his name was the same as someone on the US blacklist. Apparently the same thing happened to Nando, but I’m giggling thinking that he was held by a TSA worker who was either a Liverpool or Chelsea fan who wanted to have a word with him about the past season. Speaking of the TSA, raise your hand if you’d like to have been the one searching La Roja. I’d be like “Ramos, Torres, Casillas, Alonso…follow me. You appear to be dangerous and I have to give you a very, very thorough search.” ::cue Barry White music::

La Roja went free range around Providence yesterday – walking around town, sightseeing and shopping. It must be nice for them to wander without being molested. They should enjoy that while it lasts. Shiggers, Maisougio and I arrive tomorrow!

Here’s some more shots from the press conference and Huecco release event:

And then of course some shots from training. If you want to see something  fun, check out this clip of Sergio rather dramatically doing pushups. I love how he free falls into his stance. Oh Sese. You are so…you.

Other quick bits and bobs: Mourinho shares his thoughts about Fabio, Karim and Pipita in this article.

The rumors going around today are that Pedro Leon has been told that he “doesn’t fit in with the plan” at RM and to find another club.  Also, that there was a loan deal on the table from Schalke for Jailbait! but he didn’t want to leave Spain. It’s said that Villareal and Valencia are interested.

And because he is just totally awesomesauce, feast on this stat: Ozil created a chance every 22 minutes this season, the best ratio in the top 5 European leagues.  Whooooo!

If you see Cesc Fabregas today, make sure to wish him a Happy National Doughnut Day. If only he had planned his trip to the US a little better, he could have experienced this and Fleet Week.

Finally, credits for photos to: umakoo, rain-s-child, sr4ever

Shigs and I are leaving our houses prior to 7 AM tomorrow (ugh!) to head to Boston, so I’m not sure when I’ll be updating.  This evening, I’m trying desperately to finish up one of my final projects (it’s grad school finals right now!) so I may be scarce. Rest assured, we will come back with pictures and tales of our adventures!  If anyone is going and wants to meet up with our gang for a drink or a bite to eat after the match, or just wants to say hello, hit me up on Twitter (my account is locked, just ask me to follow you).  I’m @dld_ftw and I’ll tweet where we end up. We’re staying in Foxboro for the night, so we won’t be racing for the train back to Boston.

UPDATE: I hadn’t had time to go through all my email and Twitter stuff before I put this post up so I just wanted to add this bit that notoriousjk sent me. Robin Van Persie said what we’ve all felt like saying for a long, long time: Shut the fuck up and play football. You go, Robin! As far as I’m concerned this goes for all teams.  It’s just gotten out of hand.

green with envy right now! have a FANTASTIC time!! lots of pictures. and if you happen to bring back iker as a suvenior, just remember to return him in time for next season 😉

    • shiggers June 3, 2011 at 12:16 pm #

I’ll have to give him back? The sadness…Oh, who am I kidding? I’m so giddy I keep dancing around work, which is, quite frankly, going to embarrass the crap out of me next week. For now, Iker and Foxboro, here we come!

    • headbandsandheartbreak June 3, 2011 at 12:18 pm #

Yeah, I was gonna say good luck getting Shiggers to give him back if she catchs him!

Very excited for our road trip! Just not excited about getting up at 5:00 AM!

  2. IsaBella June 3, 2011 at 12:43 pm #

good luck ladies! have fun! *waitingforthestories* 🙂

  3. AnnaBuena June 3, 2011 at 1:28 pm #

Regarding the cavity search at airport, my arm is stretched so high up that it’s about to pop out of it’s socket. I would do volunteer for that!

You guys have fun!!! Make the most out of it. I hope you get to meet them all. Good luck! 🙂

P.s. Don’t forget to bring the ‘bail money’ for when Maisugio gets arrested after breaking into Sergio’s hotel room!

    • AnnaBuena June 3, 2011 at 2:02 pm #

I meant I would so volunteer for that. 🙂

  4. Ciotog June 3, 2011 at 2:45 pm #

Only four for the cavity search, you boast superhuman powers of self restraint that I alas do not possess! They would all need to be searched, thoroughly (That el chori/piqueton rumour needs to be confirmed at the very least)!!

    • headbandsandheartbreak June 3, 2011 at 3:05 pm #

You have a good point. Maybe I need to branch out. 😉 Or I will need to bring a crack team of HB & HB TSA specialists with me. I’m sure each member will need to be thoroughly searched more than once. Just to be safe, you know. Matter of national security and all. Ahem.

  5. maddy June 3, 2011 at 2:55 pm #

rvp is my no 2 (after ozil, duh), but i’m a bit surprised at the french. totally agree with what he;s saying though…

    • headbandsandheartbreak June 3, 2011 at 3:05 pm #

This blog must freak you out – I’m a horrific potty mouth. RvP’s language is tame.

      • maddy June 3, 2011 at 3:21 pm #

nah…i’m not all innocent in that arena either. i was just surprised that rvp would use such language in an interview. i read the comments below and apparently the interview is in dutch and he said ‘shut up and play football’. the f word wasnt used.

Girls, if you seriously want to meet them, at the game it’s almost impossible. They arrive at the stadium on a bus and they don’t get off until the locker room entrance where fans can’t enter. It’s full of security, etc. They leave the same way. Locker room – bus and off they go. The best way in this case is to hang around the hotel where they’re staying as sometimes (not always, but it happens) the team has a morning walk before games. If not, they leave the hotel to get on the bus before going to the stadium so you can try then as well. But it’s difficult as they almost never stop to give autographs, they only wave to the fans.
Anyway, I hope you succeed, one way or another. 🙂

    • headbandsandheartbreak June 3, 2011 at 3:51 pm #

To be serious, I’m not really concerned with meeting them. I’m just excited to watch them play in person. That’s the dream. Being able to support two teams that I love in person. I have no intention of hanging around a hotel. If I bumped into them, that would be cool and fun, but I’m not going go out of my way to make that happen. Pictures and autographs and the like don’t mean a great deal to me. It’s nice and all, and it would be a pleasure if I could tell them how much I enjoy their playing, but I’m not going to stand outside some place for hours to make that happen. I spent many years working in the music industry and have met lots of very famous people. In the course of that, I learned a few things: A. sometimes you’re better off not meeting the people you admire, B. you can’t force a connection (you’re just one of many) and C. at the end of the day, they’re just people – no matter how hot – and they’re human – prone to the same foibles you are. So if I meet ’em, I’m ‘aight. If I don’t meet ’em, I’m ‘aight. 🙂

However, you forgot the other option: pitch invasion. 😉 Actually, Shiggers and I have a plan worked out. Since I’m a member of the USSC, we get to go on the pitch and the benches post-game for pictures. We’re hoping that Iker sweats against the goal post so we can gather some DNA to clone him back in the HB & HB Labs. If we manage to succeed in our evil genius plot, you know what you’ll all be getting for the holidays. Ikers for everyone! We’d also like to gather more DNA to clone Xabi so he can teach the world how to dress appropriately. Sergio will be our pool boy. Nando will sit in a corner pouting to amuse us. Our house is gonna be so awesome! 😉

I don’t know why it didn’t accept my previous comment as a reply, but it’s a reply to Lozil 🙂

  7. Andrea June 3, 2011 at 4:02 pm #

I hope you girls have an amazing time at the game…I’m sure it will be incredible! I know that I am counting the days until the Philly Union/Real Madrid game 🙂

P.S. I’m totally digging El Chori’s popped collar in that pic haha

    • headbandsandheartbreak June 3, 2011 at 7:06 pm #

Chori’s obvs seen the new RM kits and is trying to practice so he can make the best of it next season! LOL! My Philly tickets arrived today. I gave a little squeal of delight.

  8. mari June 3, 2011 at 4:03 pm #

just saw the players sign autographs and take pictures with the lucky fans waiting outside the Westin hotel. if you can’t watch the game, then thats really the place to (stalk? :D) be, hehe.XD nwei, have fun ladies! please take lots of pictures.. 😀

PS. if by any chance, you’ll be up close with Biscuits, please do give him 2 slaps in the face for me (that’s two for moron! moron!).

    • headbandsandheartbreak June 3, 2011 at 7:05 pm #

I’ll gladly give Biscuits a piece of my mind (and a reason to fall down and clutch his face)!

  9. nando fan June 3, 2011 at 4:05 pm #

i swear, if you don’t take and post million pictures of la roja after the game(esp. mi nando! <3) i will never ever read your blog again! jk, of course, but the level of jealousy here is growing by the minute and it's hard to deal with it..

    • headbandsandheartbreak June 3, 2011 at 7:04 pm #

Oh, no pressure on us then! LOL! 😉 We’ll do our best. It’s coming along the Twitter grapevine from the practice right now that Sergio and Nando are joined at the hip. I can’t wait for the photos!

      • nando fan June 4, 2011 at 5:28 am #

        non what so ever 😀
i hope that’s true. cause i’m noticing the absence of nando in all the boys get-together photos and that makes me a wee bit sad. why doesn’t he socialize? why don’t they like him??
        sigh 😦

    • headbandsandheartbreak June 3, 2011 at 7:07 pm #

PS I fully intend to clone Nando as well, so you can have your own soon! 🙂

      • nando fan June 4, 2011 at 5:31 am #

oh, and this is the best news ever!
btw, i saw people calling him fatnando. ARE THEY SERIOUS?? he’s not fat, he’s gorgeous.

  10. IsaBella June 3, 2011 at 4:10 pm #

I remember when I lived in Italy I used to go to games every second weekend and it was so awesome that I’m not surprised that you’re keen on seeing your favorite team play in person. The atmosphere on the stadium, the chants, the flags, people all around in shirts (including little babies), unforgettable.
That said, I agree with your A. (more than true, it can be the worst bubble bursting ever) B. that’s obvious, although people have such ideas sometimes that make my eyes pop out C. of course; nothing more to add.
The DNA is an awesome idea, please clone Alvaro as well 🙂

    • headbandsandheartbreak June 3, 2011 at 6:53 pm #

You’re right – there’s something about match day that as special. Whether it was when I lived in England or matches I’ve been to in Russia, the Ukraine and other countries. There is a palpable excitement. It will be nice seeing these particular teams right at this time. That’s what I’m most looking forward to. So many players that I enjoy on both sides. (I’m so so bummed that Benny Feilhaber got injured!)

And as for B, yes. I’m always amazed at how someone can meet a person for a few minutes or times, share a few words and think that they know them or have some special insight into their psyches. It’s quite fascinating.

I’ll work on Alvaro cloning. Let’s hope that Die Mannschaft play the East Coast soon so I can work on their DNA as well! 🙂 I know Maddy, Jenny and I have plans to create an army of Turkish-German hotness! (I basically want to clone that entire squad. I need my own Schweinski set as well)!

      • maddy June 4, 2011 at 4:02 am #

oooo…when you do ozil’s clones, could you make a few adjustments and make mine 3 years older? i’d also like gomez, hummels, boateng, poldi, arne and lahm clones. 😉

  11. IsaBella June 3, 2011 at 8:28 pm #

Oooh so you’ve been to my side of the world? That’s amazing! right outside the border 🙂 not that I’m advertising it, when you cross the eastern border if the EU it’s not the happiest place to be…eh I miss the games, I sooo look forward to start going to Bernabeu this year, I guess I’m gonna buy the supporter’s card…
What you say about B is absolutely true, I wanted to say that people have these ideas of presents, weird clothing, banners and other stuff to draw attention and “be remembered as someone special” this is also fascinating. I’ll never forget the banner I saw for Pique or the girl asking Sergio to strip or the guy singing in Portuguese to grab a minute with Mourinho… 🙂

    • headbandsandheartbreak June 3, 2011 at 8:35 pm #

I think you’ll find that I’m quite well traveled even though my grasp of languages is crap. 😉

      • IsaBella June 3, 2011 at 9:27 pm #

there’s nothing wrong with that, not everybody is a language master, some grasp them faster, some need to study a lot 😉
