Goalkeeper Petr has been minding the net for Chelsea since 2004. You’re probably used to seeing him in his trademark rugby scrum cap. He wears that after one hell of a head injury. 20 seconds into a match in 2006, Reading midfielder Stephen Hunt’s knee collided with his head. He ended up with a depressed skull fracture and nearly died. Carlos Cudcini ended up replacing Čech in the match and was later knocked unconscious himself! Captain John Terry ended up in goal. Now you know why Sergio and Sami have to train as back up goalkeepers. Obviously, this sort of shit can happen. Anyhow, he recovered and that hasn’t stopped him from having a great career. He holds the record for getting to 100 clean sheets in the least amount of matches (180) in the Premier League. He was also recognized (along with Iker) as one of the 5 Best Goalkeepers in the World in 2010 by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics. He has been a member of the senior Czech Republic National Team since 2002, representing his country 81 times. Interesting fact: he’s a triplet! He was born on May 20, 1982 along with his sister Sarka and his brother Michal (sadly, his brother passed away at age 2).

you just made me fall in love with him
I kinda fell in love with him too.
why you gotta go after my men?? 😛
actually, its the way you related the story. i didnt know about his head injury, so whenever i saw him with the scrum cap, i would think ‘weirdo’. now, i see him and i think brave warrior with indomitable spirit
We just both have impeccable taste, what can I say?! 😉
His story is pretty amazing. I love “brave warrior with indomitable spirit” – that sums it up nicely.
every time i see this man outside of the goalposts, i’m always pleasantly surprised.
he’s so dreamy. yum.
Consider it a birthday gift. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! xoxoxoxxo
you’re a darling, ladycakes! many thanks for all the birthday wishes!
