People, indulge me for just a minute (well, as you always do). Something really monumental just happened in New York and I’m sitting here bawling my eyes out. Finally, FINALLY, my state legalized same sex marriage. It has been a battle from start to finish and I can’t believe it’s finally happened. It really came down to the wire: the last day of legislative session and the vote went down 33-29. As I’ve mentioned, I’m away this weekend at a wedding and it’s an added joy to know that now ALL my friends who want to get married will be able to. I’m going to go fucking broke buying wedding gifts and I couldn’t be happier about it. This just means so much to me, I can’t even tell you. I’m so emotional right now. I’m going to have a drink to celebrate. I wish I was in NYC tonight because on top of everything else, it’s Pride Weekend and the city must be going absolutely nuts right now.
(Thanks to watishista! notoriusjk who sent me the gorgeous shot of the Empire State Building lit up in rainbow colors – it’s so beautiful!)
Yeaaaaaasaahhhhhhhh!!!!! I am so excited. What a great
weekend for it to have happened. It was meant to happen. Marriage & love for everyone!
I am sooooo happy as well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Equality for everyone!!!!!!!!!!!
Cool! That’s fantastic! I do know some people in NYC who will be extremely happy about this and would love to celebrate that historic event with them. You go, guys!
How great to do it this of all weekends! I was getting dinner near the west village last night and we walked by the Stonewall Inn…it was insane, must have been a bazillion deliriously happy people there!
I am so sad that I wasn’t home for this. I would have been out in the street dancing. As it was, I was texting with friends all night. We were all so excited!
what FANTASTIC news!!!! everyone deserves to marry the one they love. WELL DONE NY!!!!!!!!!
I love your coverage of this on here!! It’s so wonderful. FINALLY!!!
It’s a hugely important issue to me. I have so many friends who have been together for years – several of them raising families together, who have not been offered equality under the law. This is a huge step forward. I was so ashamed of NY prior to this – we should have been the first to legalize it (IMHO) – but today I’m proud.
I couldn’t agree more- NY should have been first!! You know how they have a hard time getting ANYTHING accomplished in Albany though 😉 It’s also so great that this happened on Pride weekend, right?! I was afraid it might not happen until early this week but YAY!!!
i hope they don’t take it back like prop 8
Been away for a few days, but just had to post on this…Delighted!! I presume it was very well celebrated nand rightly so..it’s been a long time coming!
