Along with updates on the disappearance of Maryam Majd, today brought the sad news of the detainment of Iranian documetary filmmaker and womens rights activist Mahnaz Mohammadi. There has not been official acknowledgement of the arrest of either woman, but it is rumored that they are being held at Evin Prison. Germany is getting in on the act: Parlimentary speaker Norbert Lammert and human rights official Markus Loening have demanded Majd’s immediate release. There is a petition here that you can sign asking that she be let go immediately. The fine folks over at ONTD_Football have gotten on the case and have already getting attention. They’ve started using the #FreeMaryamMajd hashtag on tweets and asking others to share the tag and articles. This situation is getting more critical because in addition to Maryam and Mahnaz, at least three other activists have disappeared in the last few weeks: Maryam Bahrman, Mansoureh Behkish and Zahra Yazdani. It’s important that their names get out there and people understand the violations to human and civil rights that are ocurring.

How did I miss this post?
I don’t know. I was so surprised that no one commented on it, especially since the earlier post on Maryam Majd got alot of attention. It’s very distressing.
No updates?
It’s been very hard to find information in English. Some of the women, such as Mahnaz were freed on bail, but kept under surveillance, their passports seized and they have been denied the right to work. I’d love to know more about what’s going on. If anyone can find information, I would welcome it.
