Since I’ll be seeing Real Madrid play today (whooooo!), I thought it would be nice to feature one of our players. Now granted, poor Peter Lion certainly didn’t get much attention when he was on our squad (only 6 appearances this past season), which was a shame. He saved our ass against AC Milan in the Champions League on his only official goal for Los Blancos (pre-season doesn’t count). I don’t know what he did or how he pissed Mou off (aside from the punch up with Gago) but his future is obviously going to happen elsewhere. He’s a talented kid and I hope wherever he ends up that he gets some playing time. He played for the Spanish U-21 team from 2007-2009. Cool fact: his brother Luis, who races bicycles for UCI ProTeam Rabobank, recently won the Spanish National Time Trial Championships and Stage 9 of the 2011 Tour de France. They share the same birthday – November 24.
I really like Peter Lion. I followed him a when he was with Getafe, but only cuz he’s easy on the eyes, but once I watched his game, I was impressed. His match fitness has certainly suffered since he came over to RM, which is unfortunate. He is floundering when he should be progressing. It’s sad to see such talent left dead in the water. Hopefully, he’s learning something from all of this, most notably, patience…
