Wonder What Xavi Had To Say About That?

29 Jul

Barca is in Washington, DC to play Manchester United.  So they thought that they’d have a kickabout on the National Mall with a little photo op. Not so quickly, gentlemen. Get your arses off the grass! The lady park ranger is having none of this “we are football” nonsense. She doesn’t care if you’re football, you’re not walking on the nation’s official damn greenery. End of story. Villa’s bitchface as he gets back on the bus is epic.  You just don’t mess with the US Parks Service.  They are straight up serious.  No word on if the ranger waved goodbye and mumbled  either  “Hala Madrid” or Glory, Glory Man United” under her breath as the spurned Catalans drove away, but I think it’s less a matter of partisanship and more about lawn care. 😉 (Video and story via Dirty Tackle)

Hahahaha amazing. One more reason why I love my hometown. If we locals can’t walk on the grass, neither can you, tourists! Muahahahaha. (And while you’re at it, stand to the right, dammit.)

I am a little ashamed to admit that I’m attending this match (just doing some recon, okay? spying for Mou, no need to worry!), because it makes me feel like a bad madridista. Will cheering for Man Utd make it any better? Wearing a neutral-team jersey? Or just the pleasure of knowing that *my* team didn’t get told off by a Park Ranger for trampling the Nation’s Lawn?

In conclusion: sweet, sweet schadenfreude. 😀

      Stand to the right! Yes!

    • headbandsandheartbreak July 29, 2011 at 10:50 am #

Don’t be ashamed to attend the match! It’s not disloyal to want to watch some of the best players in the world today work their magic. I’d jump at the chance. And yeah, I’d cheer for Man United. 😉 But seriously, I’d just go for the enjoyment of watching a match without the pressure of my team being in it. I love the game and it’s relaxing when you can just kick back and savor a well played match. (I’d also be spying for Mou!) 😉

Racist abuse of Yossi Benyaoun: I wonder have you seen this? No one seems to be interested…hope you can do something on it! Sorry it’s not related to the piece but I didnt know where else to put it.

Thank you Candy – I definitely will! I had heard some rumblings about it yesterday but was having trouble finding more info. I see there is a lot more info now.

Ummm, LOL! Villa’s bitchface = epic! XD
As an admitted supporter of both teams (I know, some days I hate myself :L ) I still couldnt help sniggering and muttering ‘F Yeaah! HALA Madrid!’

And yes, I dont think anyone would have denied Cristiano if he wanted to train there 😀 Y’know, smirk-at-her-and-she-melts style? 😉

    • headbandsandheartbreak July 29, 2011 at 11:39 am #

He would have been like “How YOU doin’?” and a thumbs up. Putty in his hands! 😉

    • Allison July 29, 2011 at 5:29 pm #

Bless David Villa and his bitchface ❤

      • headbandsandheartbreak July 29, 2011 at 6:11 pm #

The world would be a much sadder place without Villa’s bitchface. I think when they retire that he and Nando should open an Advanced Bitchfacing Academy. Hell, HB & HB will bankroll it!

With additional seminars in hair bleaching and soul-patch shaping. LMAO 😀

Paha, I died when I saw this! For some reason the “Where is the leader of this group?” made me laugh so much 😛
I didn’t know you’re not allowed to walk on the grass, I thought she was just telling them to leave because a big group of odd looking people scoping out the White House could be somewhat suspicious. Though I guess if you were gonna do anything shady you wouldn’t wear bright yellow shirts with the club name and “Qatar Foundation” blazed all the way across them… ;P
Poor Pedrito! Sad face! It was his birthday too, how could the mean park lady be so horrible to the birthday boy? 😉

    • headbandsandheartbreak July 29, 2011 at 6:15 pm #

True, a boy should be allowed to play on the grass on his birthday….EXCEPT IN OUR NATION’S CAPITAL. We take our lawns very seriously in the US. 🙂

I would have laughed my ass off it this happened to Real too, I have to admit. It’s just too absurd, isn’t it?

  7. emily July 29, 2011 at 9:53 am #

I laughed at ‘Who is the leader of this group?’, too. She obviously didn’t know who she was dealing with. She certainly didn’t recognize ‘real futbol’ and must be part of the other 93% who don’t understand it. If only she knew who she was ushering back onto a tour bus – heroes to half the people of the known world. aaah ignorance is bliss, n’est ce pas? What would I have done if I were her… ? I would probably give them a piece of my mind, and then ask for all of their autographs. My daughter likes them (I thought I raised her right, but…sh!t happens), so I can’t go all militant Madridista on them and then ask for treats…

    • HermosaChica July 29, 2011 at 6:58 pm #

Hmmm well if I were her, and the RM boys were the ones in question, I would’ve pushed ’em flat onto the grass and had my way with them! 😉

  8. emily July 29, 2011 at 10:09 am #

It’s actually kind of a sad statement, in a way, because if it had been any other day, some other, less ‘I need to be important and wield my government stick’ Park Ranger (she’s unarmed) probably would have let them play for their photo op and then told them to move on. Or maybe she is Madridista and gave them a piece of her mind about Oscar worthy performances… ‘stop diving and bullying the refs and then you can play on my grass!’

  9. Andrea July 29, 2011 at 11:07 am #

Is it wrong that I wish I had taken off of work yesterday just so I could’ve witnessed this firsthand? 😉

And, via the Washington Post, it looks like Xavi had this to say -“Security said you couldn’t have a group of more than 10 or 15 there,” Barcelona midfielder Xavi said in his native Spanish at a press conference. “We wanted to loosen up a little, stretch. . . . Given that the White House was near so it was normal security, nothing more.”

Does anyone hope that the unedited video contains a shot of Busquets falling to the ground and clutching his face, as Xavi claims football as the “winner” against the U.S. Park Service?

    • headbandsandheartbreak July 29, 2011 at 11:42 am #

“Does anyone hope that the unedited video contains a shot of Busquets falling to the ground and clutching his face, as Xavi claims football as the “winner” against the U.S. Park Service?”

LMAO! Brilliant. We should borrow the guys from Crackovia and film an addendum to the video.

Of course Xavi made a statement about getting chased off the grass by the US Park Service. Seriously, I have dealt with those people. They wouldn’t care if you were the Baby Jesus, you stay the hell off their grass.

      • jellyace July 30, 2011 at 4:02 pm #

You know who started it all? Busquets. He’s been missing the grass because it’s been a while since he’s fallen on, rolled around on it clutching his face!

BTW, Rio Ferdy and the other Man U players got a private White House tour but Barca only gets to tour the mall.

        • jellyace July 30, 2011 at 4:09 pm #

Rio Ferdy was tweeting pics as he went on the White House tour and one of his pics disappeared and he was wondering if the Secret Service had anything to do with it.

        • headbandsandheartbreak July 30, 2011 at 4:13 pm #

Actually barca did get to the white house and met Obama but man utd didn’t get to meet him.

          • jellyace July 31, 2011 at 6:28 am #

They did? Good for them. And they were wearing their Qatar Foundation shirts? 😉

          • Notoriousjk August 1, 2011 at 12:57 am #

Great :-/ I hope Busquets was nowhere near Obama

  10. Notoriousjk July 29, 2011 at 11:29 am #

Ha ha ha ha ha. I’ve not even watched the video & that’s already made my day.

  11. notoriousjk July 29, 2011 at 8:48 pm #

Right watched the video & laughed my ass off. When she asks “who is the leader of this group?” I laughed so hard I spit out my drink. What exactly did Xavi say about the “incident”?

  12. Suzanne July 30, 2011 at 8:46 am #

I live here and have heard that The National Mall has a new rule where groups of 10 or more are not allowed to have “pick up” games. Guess this was becoming a problem recently and not even a group of world famous footballers get to be an exception!
