“C’mon Jose, Give Us A Smile”*

6 Aug

Like many of you, I’m up at the ungodly hour of 5:45 AM to watch the match. I wish like hell I could go back to sleep afterwards, but I have a ton of stuff to do, all of it before noon. Hopefully, I can take a nap later. Ugh.

So the first half is over and what’s been happening? Well, Pipita was offside – a lot. (Some calls were debatable) and Kaka scored at 8′ (penalty earned by Fideo) and Di Maria at 13′ (he kissed his ring finger – very sweet). Baby goalkeeper Jesus made a howler of a mistake as soon as he came on (he was soooo nervous – that much was obvious) but luckily, it didn’t cost us a goal.  Sergio went down and was taken out clutching his back. This is NOT good. Coentrao got brutalized by an Argentinean player on Tianjin a couple of times. They got in a shoving match. Then Fabs took an elbow to the head from the guy and Arbeloa jumped to his defense, shoving and yelling.

The real entertainment of the first half was the wretched English speaking commentator, who didn’t seem to know anyone’s name and couldn’t pronounce the ones he did know.  *(The post title is a direct quote). For instance, “Car-vell-io” for Carvalho (like he was an Italian ice cream cake. For the non-East Coasters, Carvel is an ice cream place here).  “Kadiri” for Khedira, etc.  His commentary went something like this “A guy comes on replacing….another guy. They’re taking off the guy who caused the trouble.” ‘The guy’ in question was also most often referred to as “The big Argentinean” – the first time I saw his name was on the chiron when he was subbed off (Olguin).

Another favorite? “Eye-curr Cassy-us, lovely man.” He clued us to the fascinating fact that Callejon has a twin brother named Juanmi who currently plays for Real Madrid. I’m sure that’s a huge surprise to the twins and Juanmi’s employers. And Marcelo has been dubbed “Mar-chel-o. Then he mentioned that Marcelo has become a Spanish citizen and “So the 23 year old can now play for Spain.” HOLY SHIT. I give up. Do your homework, dude. If I did my job this half assed, I would be fired.

Party on the bench! The goals started coming quickly in the second half. Pipita (FINALLY) scored at 63′ – Mou subbed him off 64′ with Cris coming in, followed by Benz for Fauxnando a minute later. Crispy scored a beaut at 70′ and Karim smacked in 2 goals in 3 minutes! (75′ , 78′).  And that was all she wrote. Final score: Real Madrid 6 – Tianjin 0.   Sami took off his shirt at the end and just as I was about to screencap it, my stream crapped out. Damn it.

And so ends the pre-season. I’m getting so excited about the start of La Liga. Still kinda dreading the Super Copa though. I still have Clasico fatigue. Well, here are some quick shots of the game.

Here’s The Ramos before they broke him. Here he is after. I am so not amused by this turn of events. Sigh.

I am, however, amused by our see through kits. And Sergio’s ever present tighty whities. No Under Armor for this captain!

I’m sure I’ll have more to say later (and correct any typos) when my eyes aren’t burning from about 4 hours sleep. I’m off to have breakfast now. HALA MADRID!

Awww.. You’re stream shut down after Sami took off his shirt? That’s a bummer because Mesut took off his shirt, too! And it’s a rather close up shot! Then that’s when the telecast ended here arghh :< When i saw Sami shirtless, i thought of you. He might have read your earlier post and decided to strip down for you :p

Xabi and Arbie getting angry is so H-O-T! Though i didn't like him pushing the Argentinian player. I'm tad worried about Sergio. Hope it's not serious. For precautionary measures, he must not be allowed in the spain-italy friendly. We need him for the Supercopa!!! I'm glad Nacho and his nachos are a-ok. And Pipita- you have to admire his workrate. He worked tirelessly until he scored that goal. *claps*

Mari, thanks again for the heads up on the match being aired on Solar Sports. That was so much better than the crappy live stream I’m usually forced to watch. Do you have any idea if any PHL channels will ur the Supercopa?

        oops typo: air the Supercopa?

I love how pipita scored just as he was about to be subbed off. And I love that benzema is finally doing so well cause I knew he had it in him, under those few extra pounds.

Finally, I am a perv (and embracing it!) but I love Jese. He is adorable and awesome.

The commentator was whispering like he was covering a golf match…and he sounded like he had 50 cigarets too many. And then of course, there was the mangling of names and facts. Kadiri in Tagalog means “how gross!” So this I found quite annoying.

But I was still happy to be able to watch the boys in action and without under armor! I hope this goal-fest continues all season. And they had better not have broken our Sese! At least his bulbous arms are ok.

Ugh, I didnt watch it this morning, but am downloading it now. Taking forever! cuz I don’t want to pay for it. I just checked out Solar Sports, It’s replaying at 6pm? is that right?

My poor bebe! do you know around what minute he was subbed out? Apparently the stream I am downloading is missing the last 7 minutes of the first half.
I sooo hope he is ok for the SuperCopa!

@jellyace: Check your channel line-up if you have tve (tv españa). I believe they will air the Supercopa. They aired the CdR finals & Lorca charity match before plus, the Spanish NT games. I’ll post here as more details become available. 🙂 I must admit i’m not too excited about this though. I don’t know if my weak heart can take it. I just can’t watch a Clasico live 😐

I laughed at ‘kadiri’ too, bwahaha! Sami is definitely NOT ‘ewww.. But i prefer this commentator over those barça fanboi pundits. At least he’s concentrating on RM info/stuff, though most of them comes out wrong, wahaha! Besides i’m focused on the boys anyway to even notice his mistakes. :p

Well, he obviously didn’t know any of the Chinese players (like I do?) calling them “that guy”. And Dia Maria? hahaha!

I don’t get tve. To get that I’d also get all the foreign channels and have to cough up a lot more money per month as its a package deal. Anyway, just keep us posted, please. Many besos y abrazos to you!

@Kristine: Filipina ,too? 🙂 If i remember it correctly, Sergio was subbed out around the 39th/40th minute.. Regarding the replays, today Aug 7, there are two – 6/6:30AM and 7PM. I assume the morning replay is the one against Guangzhou and the one in the evening is the match against Tianjin. 😀

How dare they break The Ramos this close to the supercopa???????? That should be punished with prison time!

Marchello – that is what a Danish commentator – so called Spanish liga expert – calles Marcelo too….. Halfway through the season I’m throwing stuff at my tv, every time he says Marchello and not Marcelo.

I’m not a rocket scientist, but I doubt someone can be an expert, when they can’t pronounce names correctly. But He also says RonaRldo. At this point, I think he’s just making stuff up.

He can’t pronounce names right, but the dirt going on off the field he dishes is delish!!!!! He is almost annoyed when something in the game happens – like a shot at the goal or a freekick – because that his story was interupted.

@jellyace: Who’s your cable provider? That’s unfair! Their basic subscription must still include a few foreign channels. All the foreign channels in a separate package deal?? Boo! Demand tve from them, hehe 🙂 Skycable’s mine btw. Let’s hope Solar Sports gets to air it *fingers-crossed*

    • jellyace August 7, 2011 at 12:50 pm #

I’m not in Metro Manila. But I did mention to the cable service clerk that I wanted my Balls channel back and that it shouldn’t be lumped together with the foreign channels bec it is local. 2 days later, I got my Balls! (love the pun) And for free! So I don’t know if I want to go back and ask for tve, too.

Don’t know if I heard it right as I wasn’t looking at the screen, but ESPN will air what was called “the battle of Catalunya” or something like that. Will try to get that verified. Gosh, I hope it wasn’t golf they were talking about.
