HB & HB Emergency Preparedness

26 Aug

As you may or may not know, HB & HB Headquarters is in Brooklyn, NY and we have a hurricane bearing down on us even as we speak. Computer models have it possibly hitting NYC directly. This would…not be good. Anyhow, just so you know, I may be out of the loop for a few days, post-storm in case of power outages. I’m preparing some Drools in advance for you but there will probably not be a match report and other content as of Saturday night/Sunday morning when the storm is due to hit us. That said, my fearless partner in watishing!, Maisougio is thankfully out of harm’s way in Detroit, so she can pick up the torch if HQ should experience technical angst. Just wanted you to know the deal.  To all my East Coast peeps, please be safe and check in to let me know you’re okay once Irene has gotten out of your area. Max the cat and I are hunkering down in Brooklyn and riding it out.  We do have 2 nearby evacuation shelters if worse comes to worse so we should be fine. We’ve stocked in all the necessities and added chocolate and booze to the list. Good luck all!

Be safe! And arm your phone with fábio and mesut goodies to get you through the storm!

Here’s hoping that Irene comes, goes & doesn’t disrupt my online feed of the first La Liga match of the season.

I’m not sure how many more weather events I can handle…first the earthquake, now this! Be safe, all!

    • headbandsandheartbreak August 26, 2011 at 1:09 pm #

I’m peeved that I can’t go down the pub to watch the match. I’m hoping that I’ll still have an internet connection. Nothing is guaranteed to make me go bonkers quicker than no internet connection.

Me, DK and J-9 are convening an emergency meeting of the Brooklyn Sweaty Shanks pena at the pub on Saturday afternoon so we can get in some footy & beer drinking pre-storm. Shiggers and ginboonmiller are all newly wedded so I’m not sure if we can drag them out of the house to join us. They’re probably still writing thank you notes (or whatever the kids are calling it these days). 😉

Thank you notes, yeah…something like that. In reality, we probably would have been at the pub as well if the subways were working. As is, we had a friend drop by for drinks and had a great time. Considerably less tree coverage in our neighborhood now, but only because the leaves were stripped by the wind overnight. And the good neighbor who kept re-arming his car alarm every time it went off is due for a good kicking. Unfortunately, the large branches that fell around his SUV didn’t damage it. Everything okay your way?

We’re fine and dandy. Some big trees down further up the street but we were totally fine. Thankfully, we didn’t lose power.

Aaah! Stay safe!!! So chocolate, RM photos…yup that’s really all that’s needed for survival.

Might be a stupid question, but if the storm hits, how long does it usually last for? Is it likely that JFK would be closed on Tuesday?

    • headbandsandheartbreak August 26, 2011 at 1:06 pm #

Depends on how bad things get here. They’re talking about suspending all public transport from tomorrow through Monday if the winds go above 39 mph (which I’ve seen in a regular storm) so it remains to be seen. Hey! Are you coming to NYC on Tuesday?!

      • HermosaChica August 26, 2011 at 1:19 pm #

Oh boy.. Let’s hope for the best!

Lol well that WAS the plan! I’ll have to check with the airline etc. But I was planning on telling you at my arrival just to see if you had detected a sudden concentration of perviness in the air around the time I landed on the premise. 🙂

        • shiggers August 28, 2011 at 9:45 am #

Ha! Forecast for increased perviness Tuesday! Fabulous!

First an earthquake, now a hurricane! Just got back from Costco where I loaded up on wine and Sangria! I’m prepared to be stuck indoors for two days watching the Bundesluga, the ManU game, and lots of La Liga (thank God)!!! Starting with Eurosupercup tonight and ending sometime on Monday…. I just hope my kids survive the neglect 😉 Glad we switched from satellite to fios a few months back! I’m in the DC area by the way… So hunkerin’ down as well! Stay safe!

Stay safe and Good luck everyone!
I’ll probably be able to go swimming in my basement this weekend, but that’s the only thing I’m really worried about.

See Ya’ll on the flip side!

  9. jellyace August 26, 2011 at 2:22 pm #

We’ve got our own Category 5 Super Typhoon on this side of the globe, so we, too, are hunkering down. Hope the power doesn’t go down for all of us. I’m sure we can all survive a few days cooped up if we’re still wired to the world. Stay safe, everybody, and holler if you need rescue!

  10. GinaM August 26, 2011 at 5:06 pm #

Be safe ladies!!! My aunt and uncle from Holland are there now too I hope the storm comes and goes with little to no damage!!!

  11. Allison August 26, 2011 at 7:12 pm #

    Be safe!

Be really careful & if you have to go to a shelter be sure you go to one that takes pets & don’t forget to take some food for your both & any medications you both might take. I went thru Hurricane Hugo & I’ll never do that again. Leave if you’re told to & take your cat with you. Stuff can be replaced.

    • headbandsandheartbreak August 26, 2011 at 10:24 pm #

Oh I won’t go anywhere without Max. I’ve got his go bag packed as well. If the shelter wouldn’t take him, I have another option that’s on higher ground (with Shiggers and ginboonmiller). There’s no way I’d leave my baby. If it was a choice of leaving him behind or staying, we’re going down together. I made a commitment to this little monster, for better or worse and it’s my responsibility to protect him.

    • headbandsandheartbreak August 28, 2011 at 11:34 am #

I was thrilled to find out that all NYC shelters are pet friendly, so that’s good news in case of future emergencies. Luckily, we didn’t need to go and things went well.

  13. Tasha August 26, 2011 at 8:51 pm #

    Be careful and stay safe!
I just realized Im in Zone A. FML. I hope I still get to watch the game though!

    • Kristine August 26, 2011 at 9:28 pm #

      Girl, get out of there!

    • headbandsandheartbreak August 26, 2011 at 10:20 pm #

Aiiiiiiieeeeee! Tasha – please get yourself somewhere safe and let us know that you’re okay!

      • Tasha August 26, 2011 at 10:33 pm #

Oh yea we’re def getting out of here by tomorrow morning! And I really hope it wont be too bad in your part of Brooklyn either!
I probably wont be near my computer for the next couple of days, but the first thing I’ll do when I get back is go on HB&HB and let you know how I am.

        • headbandsandheartbreak August 26, 2011 at 11:27 pm #

Please do! Be safe. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the storm will weaken and we’ll all be okay.

Be safe everybody! Thinking of you and my friends in Boston… For once I’m glad to live in Northern Europe – the weather’s often rainy, sometimes cold, but rarely dangerous.

Be safe, everyone! Hopefully Irene will lose power soon and not cause problems.

Let’s weather this bad weather out.
