The Daily Drool: Mikael Forssell

30 Aug

German born but of Finnish descent, striker Mikael is considered one of the best Finnish players ever. Now just 30, he had a professional career that started at age 16 with HJK. He was grabbed by Chelsea when he was 17 in 1998 and played for them until 2005, albeit much of that time on loan. He went out to Crystal Palace, Borussia Mönchengladbach and Birmingham City. He was sold to Birmingham City in 20o5 and stayed for 3 years. He moved on to Hannover 96 (2008-2011).  His contract expired at the end of the 2010-2011 and he had a trial with West Ham. In August, he had a trial with Leeds United and it was successful enough that it was extended. He’s been a mainstay on the Finnish National Team since 1999.
