A bunch of us seem to have read this fantastic story on Dirty Tackle at the same time, so I thought I’d re-post it here for everyone else. I dug around and found a bunch more pictures of the ladies at the game and they are just wonderful.
Turkish FA only allows women and kids at Fenerbahce match
By Brooks Peck
Fenerbahce were ordered to play two matches behind closed doors after fans stormed the pitch during a friendly against Shakhtar Donetsk. But instead of forcing the team and their opponents to play in the emotionless void of an empty stadium, the Turkish FA amended the rules to avoid this and to show the troublemakers what they were missing out on by allowing only women and children under 12 to attend matches played by teams sanctioned for fan violence.
The novel idea was put into practice for Fenerbahce’s match on Tuesday and it already seems to be a success.
From the AP:
On Tuesday, Fenerbahce handed out free tickets and more than 41,000 women and children attended the game against Manisaspor in Istanbul. Women formed long lines around Sukru Saracoglu stadium, some carrying babies in the team’s colors, for an opportunity to watch the club.
Before the game, Fenerbahce and Manisaspor players tossed flowers at the fans. The visiting team was greeted with applause, instead of the usual jeering, the Anatolia news agency reported.
“This really is a historic day,” said Yasemin Mercil, a female member of Fenerbahce’s executive board before the game. “For the first time in the world, only women and children will watch a game. The women know all the chants. The same anthems, the same chants will be sung.”
So the grown men who either engage in violence at matches or do nothing to stop their friends from doing so are forced to sit at home and watch a brilliant atmosphere that they can’t be a part of. It seems like this could be a viable way to curb violent tendencies. Then again, it could also spawn a terrifying new order of ruthless baby hooligans that will unleash unspeakable horrors on the game.
How frigging amazing is that? Women of all ages and young children, enjoying the sport without all the brawling and bullshit. Cheering both teams instead of slurs and idiocy. It’s beautiful. Check out that picture where you can see the packed stadium in the background – it gives me happy chills.
Take note, men. You can be replaced. You don’t want to behave yourselves? There’s plenty of ladies and kids who would love some good seats to a match that they can watch in safety without worrying about pitch invasions and violence. Make sure you read the linked AP article – both teams said that they really enjoyed the atmosphere. Two thumbs up to the Turkish soccer association for the idea and I hope this approach spreads. Perhaps they should try this in Greece?

Love love love!
its things like this that give me hope for mankind. the human race is in such an appalling state of developmental regression, to be able to see thousands of people get together and have a good time with no negativity is so uplifting. the lady laughing in the last picture is just wonderful.
The pictures and the articles just made me so damn happy!
i know! i was so mad after the bayern vs schalke game and the abusive posters aimed at neuer. what was that??? this just totally made up for it. :):)
Ya those posters against Neuer were so mean. Cant imagine what he was feeling…
This is a fantastic post!! Thanks for posting this!!! Made me feel all warm and fuzzy!!
Id love to be part of something like this!!! Tomorrow is my birthday also international day of peace and our Madrid plays!! I am feeling all kinds of chills!!!
Happy birthday! I hope Madrid plays brilliantly in honor of the day.
Thank you!!!!! 🙂
HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY TODAY, GINA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you thank you :):)
Happy Birthday, love! Here’s hoping for a win on your day 🙂
Thank you Ladies!!! Happy game day to everyone!!! 🙂
It sure is refreshing to see so many women in the crowd as opposed to a bunch of sweaty shirtless men who do NOT have torsos like Sexio.. Thanks for sharing this!
And as someone commented earlier, yes an all women’s Madrid match would be crazy!!!! *sigh* imagine all the elaborate posters :’) And the chants ooooh the chants, I’d be honored to sing “TAKE YOUR PANTS OFF!!” to El Capitan and his boys 😀 (oh damn, by “boys” I mean the team..not his “boys”.. ughh I need some sleep too..)
cristiano would be in heaven. and ozil would spend extra long on the field after the game, shirtless, applauding the fans.
Hahaha LOL
That would be one epic once in a life time sold out show!!!! And id get the grass seats hahaha love it!!!
I’m getting far too flustered at the thought!!
I’d sing to his boys….:P
I love this post, they all look so happy to be there. A stadium full of women & women only would be such a party!
Oooh! This is so wonderful! Can we have posts like this every day, please? It totally makes my day! 😀
Oh, I wish! I’d love it if this sort of thing happened every day. 🙂
Great idea! The pictures look absolutely fantastic and the women seem fierce – I love the old ladies from the last photo 🙂
And I agree, I’d love to see something like this in Madrid… But only if I could go 😉
I love this!!
I’ve been wearing my Özil shirt today, and guys are just like “bet you don’t even like football” and it angers me a lot. Just because I’m a girl doesn’t mean I can’t love the game as much as they do (and probably more).
I think women as a whole are much more respectful to other teams, and also other fans. This should definitely happen more often!
Grrrrr! I don’t blame you. Wearing your Ozil shirt shows right off the bat you like footy. He’s not exactly a random pick for a non-footy fan, is he? I wear my Ozi shirts loud and proud.
ha ha… i keep getting told on my facebook whenever i post anything footy related that i should ‘go play with my barbie’ instead.
OMFG. Someone would lose their testicles if they said something like that to me. 😦
you’d have a hard time finding them 😉
I would gladly pay a years salary to see a Real game played this way!
I love the warm fuzzies from this story. Just this week, the women of a Muslim village in the Philippines threatened to withhold sex from their men until they stopped warring. It worked. Women have a lot more power than they realize and I am so proud to see them use it.
GIRL POWER!
“Just this week, the women of a Muslim village in the Philippines threatened to withhold sex from their men until they stopped warring. It worked. ”
that. is. GENIUS,
This is PURE AWESOME!!!! 😀 😀
Made my day and almost forgot abt….Nevermind *sees red*
And I agree, Elisha I am also getting far too flustered at the thought!!!
Oooooooh, make it happen, Gods, er, Goddesses of Football!
I liked the fact that the players tossed flowers to the fans — maybe the players liked the friendlier competitive spirit in the stands. and the pretty ladies.
