You’ve got to love Xabi Alonso. Our arbiter of good taste and all around stylish guy lost his usual effortless cool when faced with the horror that is Tim Howard’s kit. His tweet was immediate and hilarious.
Now don’t get me wrong, I absolutely adore Timmy (USA! USA! USA! USA!!) but that kit is…challenging. I mean, I’ve definitely seen worse, but is he supposed to be some sort of a goalkeeping ninja, trying to blend in with the pitch and then popping up to scare players? I’m just confused. Others felt the same way.
Tim was made some killer saves in this match even though Everton lost 2-0 to Liverpool. The score would have been much worse if he wasn’t between the posts. However, the shirt leaves something to be desired. Personally, I think he should tend goal shirtless. That’s a much better look for him.

I kind of like it… I know, I know (sheepish grin). I just think that the goalkeepers tend to be the drill sergeants of the team so its kind of appropriate ( GUTI, GUUUUTTIIIIIIII)

As a former member of the US armed services, I would like to think that he is giving a shout out to the folks who have bravely and steadfastly served our fine nation.
Seriously, that isn’t nearly the worst of the GK shirts that have offended our eyes in recent years. There are websites dedicated to ridiculous futbol kits, with more than their fair share of WTF inspiring ‘keeper ‘tops’.
