Cautious Optimism On One Front, Cold Blooded Inhumane Murder On The Other

8 Oct

Good news, bad news. On one hand, I was happy to receive an email from All Out in my inbox yesterday with some welcome news in terms of their petition to FIFA.

We have incredible news.

You joined more than 46,000 people from all around the world asking FIFA to investigate charges that the coach of Nigeria’s women’s national soccer team was implementing homophobic policies–as reported by the New York Times.

We just received a letter from FIFA’s Secretary General Jérôme Valcke announcing the first step of the investigation into Coach Uche’s homophobia.

Our voices have been heard. Thank you for making this amazing victory possible!

‘Like’ our Facebook page and we will keep you updated you as the investigation evolves.

All the best and All Out,

Andre, Erika, Guillaume, Jeremy, Joseph, Nita, Oli, Prerna, Tile, Wesley and the rest of the team at All Out

I’m cautiously optimistic. At least FIFA is starting an investigation, but as we all know, FIFA’s “investigations” don’t usually lead to much. I would love to be proved wrong in this case.

The other thing that came to my attention was something deeply upsetting. As you well know, I’m an animal lover and few things piss me off more than cruelty towards them.  As the Ukraine prepares to host Euro 2012, the city of Lysychansk has decided that the best way to control the stray animal population is to shoot them or burn them ALIVE.  The city has mobile crematoriums – the animals are rounded up and tossed alive into the 900 degree C furnaces. This is barbaric, disgusting, inhumane, appalling and about 800 things that I could list. WT-everloving-F? Have they never heard of spaying and neutering? Humane euthanasia? I guess it’s just easier to murder creatures in the most painful way possible. Please take a moment to go sign the petition and share it with others. This is beyond reprehensible.

My tabby cat Max was a stray. I’m going to sign and then give him a cuddle.
