Real had a couple of days off, so I decided to take a page from their book and slack on posting. I know, I suck. Anyhow, here is Mou, some of his coaching staff and two dudes who look suspiciously like bodyguards even if they’re not watching CSKA Moscow (our upcoming Champions League opponents) play a friendly in Spain.

Everyone is feeling the Mesut love late (AS WELL THEY SHOULD!). RM had a piece on the website about him…

Ozil seals perfect week against Zaragoza
by Alberto Navarro / Translation by Michael J. O’Donnell

The German midfielder provoked a penalty and a red card against Athleltic Bilbao; he served a pass and was the man of the match at the Camp Nou; and he served an assist and tallied a strike against Zaragoza

Ozil sealed a perfect week in the match against Zaragoza. He led the team one week before that against Athletic Bilbao at the Bernabeu, provoking one penalty and a red card. He was the best player in the Copa del Rey clash with Barcelona at the Camp Nou, sending the ball to the crossbar and assisting Ronaldo in Real’s first goal. Against Zaragoza, Ozil was key in the team’s comeback following the visitors’ opener, assisting in the Whites’ second strike and sealing the match with an amazing goal.

“Ozil showcased his quality,” said assistant coach Aitor Katanka after Saturday’s match, “He’s back in top form and must keep this up.” The Santiago Bernabeu crowd was floored by the German’s spectacular performance on Saturday, and so was the national press. Marca’s front page featured Ozil with the headline “Wizard of Oz”, while AS highlighted: “Real Madrid sealed the match thanks to a great Ozil.” The midfielder will look to keep up this amazing streak on Saturday’s match in Getafe.

Cristiano Ronaldo is the player to benefit most from Ozil’s impressive vision. Three of the four goals he tallied last week came from the German. The first was the penalty he converted after Ozil provoked it. The second came from an assist between the lines with which he defeated Barça’s Pinto. The third was a strike on the goal-line following another assist from the midfielder.

Our pals over at crinkly_ears shared the above video along with translation. (Yes, Jenny, I know that I owe you an intro post! I haven’t forgotten! Sorry.)

Arsehole behavior continued when someone again racially abused Emmanuel Frimpong on Twitter. I looked at this jerk’s account and he looks like a troll whose only activity is to send abusive messages to celebrities. Why on earth has Twitter not banned him yet?! Ugh. Disgusting. I wouldn’t recommend reading it unless you have a strong stomach.

Crappy and totally sad news: Women’s Professional Soccer has suspended operations. This is extra painful as the USWNT won the CONCACAF  Olympic Qualifying Tournament yesterday.

Also annoying? These pictures of Nando and the loathsome Joey Barton all giggly during Saturday’s match. Am I the only one who remembers Joey Barton (who talked in a recent BBC 3 documentary about how much he loves his gay uncle) calling Nando a poof last year, grabbing his crotch and inviting Nando to suck him off? Hypocrite and douchebag, IMHO. I do not like this man one stinking bit. As Nando apparently sees fit to forgive him, I can’t say anything about it, but I’m not going to forget his obnoxious antics (of which there are so many). I don’t care how much Morrissey he listens to and how much Nietzche he quotes, he’s still a dick.

Here’s a bit of Nando bootay action for your troubles. I know I never turn down a chance to look at it.

BTW, tomorrow is the end of the transfer window. There’s been no major shake ups thus far, but remember what went down this time last year? Wonder if there will be any down-to-the-wire surprises tomorrow?

Sigh. Now I need some proper cheering up. Sergio is always good for that. The other day he said that the Mister gave him permission to take a few days rest in Sevilla (well, he was suspended and then they had two other days off so why not?) He’s been quiet while he’s been there but he left us with this picture of him and one of the RM medical staff, Luis Serratosa, who was celebrating his 50th birthday.

He’s such a cutie and his hair is still looking great. Additional happy news, Iker took off his pants and Alvaro posted another picture of Sawyer, Mulder and Bauer.

See? Don’t pantless Iker and puppies make every day better? The boys will be back to practice tomorrow. And I’ll get my act together to post a bit more!

Updated: Watishista Maddy just sent in this fantastic shot of Mesut!

The last picture made my day.

Puppies or Ozil? They’re both cute and squirmy.

      • sweethearthalo January 30, 2012 at 3:31 pm #

Puppies. They were first. But right, Mesut is absolutely adorable as well.

Thanks for ending the post with puppies and Iker’s butt–they really do make everything better.

I know you’re sad that Iker was only down to his Under Armor but I’m willing to take whatever I can get. I adore the Arbeloa puglets. They are so sweet.

I’m currently on a sick day because I’m actually sick (I may have the world’s strongest immune system and getting sick rarely happens for me). And you just made me feel SO much better. 😀

Pantsless Iker? Puppies? Ozil? Cheesy Ramos pose? It’s official. My monday no longer sucks.

    • headbandsandheartbreak January 30, 2012 at 2:41 pm #

Glad to be of assistance! Mondays are bad enough. We should never be deprived of all those good things!

Tragic about the women’s soccer. The US has one of the most storied women’s teams on the planet and can’t keep a professional league going.

Also, Fernando’s body language in the first photo seems to suggest he’s in agreement with your opinion on Joey Barton!

    • April January 30, 2012 at 8:14 pm #

Agreed! I interpreted the last shot as his wiping his hand after touching Barton. At least that is my story and I am sticking to it, because I remember the “poof” incident as well, and still think it is BS that the FA gets to make examples of racism but still doesn’t do much about sexism. Maybe if Nando actually were gay they’d do something about it (umm, don’t they know about Sernando)? Probably not, sadly.

Also… even better shot of his bum during the exchange: http://29.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lymtbsUhNE1roumz7o3_500.jpg

I am surprised to hear about the WPS… I just watched a program where they felt they’d continue this season, with a year’s worth of time to get up to the minimum requirement of teams. I have to wonder what impact this will have on the USWNT.

      • April January 30, 2012 at 8:17 pm #

ALSO! I just read the names of Arbeloa’s pugs. Seriously, Alvaro is more awesome than I thought. Love pugs, and I love the names he chose.

      • Elena January 30, 2012 at 8:48 pm #

I also read that about the WPS! It made the collapse all the more disappointing.

And I’ll totally buy your interpretation of that last photo . . . he looks like he smells something rotten, doesn’t he? The stench of homophobia maybe.

        • headbandsandheartbreak January 30, 2012 at 9:41 pm #

I’ll go with you ladies – perhaps he’s just fake laughing to humor Barton and get his crummy hands off him. Somewhere, Sergio has steam shooting out of his ears. 😉

Arbeloa cracks me up with his US TV love. Look for any new pets to have Game of Thrones inspired monikers.

Pics of Nando and pugs. It doesn’t get much better than that 🙂 .

  8. Jenny January 30, 2012 at 8:32 pm #

I’m glad you haven’t forgotten us! We certainly haven’t forgotten you…I log in every day waiting to see my favourite blog being advertised in mine (it’s like Man Men landing some fabulous account or something) and always…disappointment!

    tsk tsk!

Gorgeous round-up and post – as always! Some of these pics are gorgeous and this is the ONLY PLACE I’ve seen Iker in his underwear with decent pixelation so much worship for you darling!!!!

    • headbandsandheartbreak January 30, 2012 at 9:42 pm #

“Man Men?” Easy to see what’s on *your mind, lady! LMAO! 🙂 But I know what you mean. Trying to finish some homework (yee haw, grad school!) and I’ll try to get on that intro after that.
