Stretchin’ In Sevilla, Pipita’s Dulcet Tones And The Great Hipster Throwdown

10 Mar

Our fine gentlemen did their stretchies this morning at the hotel. It looks like Rui Faria has them doing the Hokey Pokey for a warm up and everyone is checking out Xabi’s form. These boys!

They also posed for a shot after their stretching. Sergio also tweeted it saying what a beautiful day it was in his beloved Sevilla. (Also? Khedergio! There’s so many bromances in that shot you’d need a flow chart to sort it out.)

There were a couple of leftover pictures from the Alma Gala that I discovered over on MGEF. The Castilla Muppet Babies look terrific as does Angel Di Maria. However, Fabio didn’t get the memo that he was supposed to dress up…in clothes that actually fit. Oy.

But the real action was on the social networking sites today. The boys were full metal hilarious and also there was a Clash of the Hipster Titans: Xabi & El Pirata. But first, Albiol was bitching about Pipita’s non-stop yammering.

He says that he’s going to bed after a couple of hours of Pipa talking non-stop and that he’ll probably dream of his voice. Arbeloa responded with something about virtual shampoo? Sometimes I hate Google Translate. Could he be sending him something to cleanse the brain of Pipa’s voice? Spanish speaking watishistas, help a sistah out!

Whatever happened, it resulted in a hilarious picture posted by a rumpled looking Albiol this morning, featuring a bright eyed and bushy tailed Pipita shooting a big ol’ thumbs up. How’d you sleep Raul? 😉

El Pirata continues to make life worth living with his hipster tweets and recommendations. I burst out laughing this morning when he posted a quote and picture of Chuck Bukowski. Oh Pirata, you just make it so, so easy!

In case you’re wondering, it says “Arts. When the spirit fades, the form appears.” He also retweeted something from a singer he likes Russian Red, which contained a link to a 50 year old song.

Just when I think I couldn’t love him more, he just keeps bringing the hipster angst. Oh Pirata, let’s spend a Saturday afternoon strolling around the art galleries of Madrid, discussing Baudrillard. Then in a fit of whimsy, ironically planking and owling while taking Hipstamatic shots of ourselves.  It’ll be a lark!

Perhaps Pirata’s upping of the hipster quotient came after Xabi’s recent spate of Tweets. He was on fire this week tweeting about the return of Mad Men and either posting (or retweeting) movie clips from Casablanca, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance and Deliverance (the Dueling Banjos scene – Burt Reynold’s buff arms in that scene are a revelation, I tell ya).  Now that’s how a fully grown hipster does it, El P. Ball is in your court. I expect you to wow us. I know you will.

One thing that I noticed – he calls his brother Mitch? Somehow I find that incredibly endearing.  Well kids, I’ve got to get back to the paper writing so that I can go watch the game later.  Hala Madrid!

hahahahahaha! Now that’s how a fully grown hipster does it, El P. HAHAHAHAHAHA. but pirata would never owl or plank, even ironically.
    this whole post is hysterical.

now, up and out into this brisk and sunny day! hope you find time to take a break from the schoolwork and sneak in a few hours to enjoy the day, lo!

Well, if he was feeling whimsical and drunk (on Pernod, undoubtedly) he just might if he was imitating “hipsters” because I’m guessing he doesn’t think of himself in those terms which makes it even more hilarious. 🙂

I’ve been working like a crazy woman on these papers. I found myself up at 3 AM watching K-Pop videos to cleanse the mental palate. That just confused me so I went to sleep.

Now I’ve got BBC 6 Music on in the background and I’m tearing through this paper. I have 2 to write and then need to record/create supporting presentations. Are we there yet?

I am taking a break for the match today but that’s it. 😦

there’s no contest. granero owns xabi. coldplay is more miley cyrus than the music of the ancients. also, was i the only one who did not love Midnight In Paris?

      • Anonymous March 10, 2012 at 10:17 pm #

Anthony Bourdain loathes Midnight in Paris with a passion according to his Oscar ballot interview in the NY Times. I loved it though. Xabi, Esteban, and I are connected I tell you!

I thought it was entertaining but mostly pointless. Typical Woody Allen–pretty on the outside but not much substance.

Arbeloa said something like “The only thing you’ll be dreaming about is the virtual shampoo I gave you.” Or “the shampoo I gave you virtually.” Or something like that. Maybe he’s still ragging Albiol about his hair.

    • headbandsandheartbreak March 10, 2012 at 2:52 pm #

So he wants Albiol to dream about him shampooing him?! Man, these boys just slash themselves, don’t they? I was cracking up over Albiol’s other message which said something like “Pipa last night, Pipa this morning. After a long time, I hope I score tonight.” All he needed to add there was a (said Alvaro). 😉

        Raul… Alvaro… Shampoo… Bubbles…. Pipa all night long… Scoring… *head explodes* 😀

Oh Fabio. Baby blue chinos and an orange watch. That just screams BBQ at the beach.

    • headbandsandheartbreak March 10, 2012 at 11:14 pm #

It does, doesn’t it? It certainly doesn’t scream “fancy gala celebrating the 110th anniversary of the biggest club in the world,” that’s for sure. Especially the white sneakers.

i kinda like it.. i love the watch. i dont mind the trousers but i do mind the white tee

We need another entry into El Pirata’s Hipster Angst Diary. He has so much to complain about. Breaches in good taste are all over the place!

    • headbandsandheartbreak March 10, 2012 at 11:12 pm #

Alas, I am in the middle of grad school finals. I haven’t had time to trek to Madrid and attempt to sneak a peek at his angst filled hipster diary. I’m betting that there is a good chance that more indignities will be suffered upon his person so he’ll still be kvetching in a couple of weeks when I’m finally done and can catch my breath. 🙂

I’ve been meaning to wish you luck on all the schoolwork. Just hold on you’re almost there! So looking forward to hearing all about Esteban’s pain when you’re done!

        • headbandsandheartbreak March 11, 2012 at 11:56 pm #

I’ve been so tied up in my own angst that I haven’t had time to deal with his! 🙂 Thanks for the kind wishes. I’m chugging along. I made major progress this weekend and now I just need to focus on the last three things (exam, paper, live presentation).

  5. Melissa March 10, 2012 at 11:15 pm #

Haha…that must be why Pipa said he dedicated his goal to Chori. Guess he owed him after the nonstop chatter.

    • headbandsandheartbreak March 10, 2012 at 11:18 pm #

I saw that earlier and got the giggles. I guess he’s trying to make it up to him. 🙂 I like the bubbles idea better, personally.
