Philadelphia is going to be a hot spot for international footy for the next few months. A bunch of high profile matches have been lined up.

Chester, Pa. (April 12, 2012) – Philadelphia Union today announced the club will host Bundesliga club FC Schalke 04 on Wednesday, May 9, 7:30 p.m. EST, at PPL Park. One of the most popular teams in Germany, Schalke currently sit in third place in the Bundesliga and are just one win away from a top four finish and a spot in the Champions League next season.

Schalke feature stars Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, currently ranked second in the Bundesliga in scoring, Spanish legend Raul and U.S. Men’s National Team midfielder Jermaine Jones.*

“Over the last two years we have hosted top English, Mexican, Spanish and Scottish clubs to play the Union,” said Nick Sakiewicz, Philadelphia Union CEO & Operating Partner. “Now it is only fitting that we bring one of Germany’s top Bundesliga clubs to the Greater Philadelphia region for the first time for our fans to enjoy. Schalke 04 is a club with rich European history and we are honored to welcome them and the German community.”

Union full season ticket holders will be able to purchase their same seats at the per ticket price of their season tickets beginning today at 2:00 p.m. EST and ending on Monday, April 16 at 11:59 p.m. Card-carrying season ticket holders can have this game loaded on to their current season ticket card.

Individual tickets ranging in price from $25 for Supporters tickets to $50 for Midfield tickets will go on sale to the general public Monday, April 16 at 10:00 a.m. EST on www.philadelphiaunion.com.

Groups of 15 or more will receive a $5 discount per ticket and also have the option of creating a group combo pack that allows them to pair the Schalke match with another regular season Union match for a $10 discounted ticket for both games.

Schalke is the first of two international opponents to visit PPL Park this season, as the Union will also host Aston Villa of the Barclays Premier League on July 18. Union vs. Aston Villa is included in full season ticket packages at no additional cost. (You can also buy tickets on the website)

Raul’s future at Schalke is still up in the air with all sorts of rumors flying around. I’d love to see him play but it’s going to be impossible (even if he does show up). I’m just getting back from vacation 4 days before that and to take another midday week off isn’t going to happen. The Aston Villa game is a Wednesday as is the MLS All Star game vs. Chelsea. They’re trying to kill me here apparently.

Watishista Andrea sent me a link to the news about the All Star game. A chance to see Nando, Juanin, Raul M and the gang in person! That would be so much fun. I’ve been lucky to see the first two play with La Roja but I’d love me some Hipster Raul action especially if he brings the luscious Ivone (doubtful, sadly).

They meet again.

Six years after the MLS All-Stars handed English Premier League powerhouse Chelsea FC a 1-0 defeat, the London-based club is coming back for another crack at MLS’ best at the AT&T MLS All-Star Game on Wednesday, July 25, at PPL Park (8:30 pm ET on ESPN2, ESPN3, TeleFutura, TSN and RDS). The announcement was made on Wednesday at a press conference in Chester, Pa.
And for the second time, Chelsea will face an MLS team led by Peter Nowak, after the league appointed the All-Star site’s hometown MLS coach as the team manager for the second straight year. The Philadelphia Union manager was at the helm of the All-Stars in 2006 when a Dwayne De Rosario goal allowed MLS to hoist the All-Star trophy at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, Ill.
This summer’s Chelsea side could be traveling to the US with some silverware in tow. They’re in the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League (where they will take on FC Barcelona) and they’re in the semifinals of the English FA Cup. Their US tour already features a trip to Seattle on July 18.

The MLS All-Stars will be hoping to reverse the recent All-Star trend which has seen them lose their first two matches against the same international opponent: Manchester United. The MLS squad was 5-0-1 against international club sides before dropping consecutive matches to the Red Devils.

Union season ticket holders get first dibs at tickets, but other fans can get in on the action via an exclusive VISA pre-sale that starts April 25. Remaining tickets go on sale on Wednesday, May 9.
