Final Training Before NYC, Alex Injury, Another Award For Cris & More

7 Aug

Look at this adorable shot of Iker that Real Madrid had up on their website today. He looks happy and ready to come to NYC to rock Shiggers’ world, oh yes he does!

Our fine gentlemen had one final morning practice at UCLA before heading off to New York.

Shiggers has also been in training so she can outrun this guy if need be.

Poor Muppet Baby Alex is injured. He has a sprained medial collateral ligament in his right knee. Ugh. It’s serious enough that he’s on crutches. Animo bebe!

Cris won the ‘Goal.com 50’ prize for the b Goest player of the 2011/2012 season. It’s voted on by the editors in chief of all 29 Goal.com editions worldwide.  Here’s the previous winners and some pictures:

ESPN Soccernet also had a video interview with Cris that you might be interested in.

The Yankees are in the midst of preparing the pitch for tomorrow night’s match. Here’s some ‘in progress’ shots.

They have been working on this process since Sunday. Wow! The pitch looked great for the Chelsea/PSG game, so I’m sure it will be fantastic for this as well.

Raul Albiol tweeted this shot of himself with security guy Jorge. That’s who you’re going to have to get through to get to the team, people. Just sayin’.

Here’s a shot of Sergio via GF Sports with a fan. He also linked to a video of his friend, young flamenco singer Pilar Bogado.

Never one to miss an opportunity to tease his teammates, Arbeloa linked to El Pirata’s Jot Down interview and said he was ‘classy’ but he did tease him about his love of Kafka. He said he’d stick to reading Dances with Dragons.

So how about some Brazilian Olympic Team? No cute Enzo today, but we’ll start with Neymar taking shirtless pictures of himself in the mirror as young boys tend to do. Sigh.

Marcelo trading jerseys with Canadian WNT midfielder Kaylyn Kyle.

I really enjoyed this Nike “Find Your Greatness” commercial. Great shots and sentiment.

And finally, I burst out laughing when I saw this picture that @funkyblanco posted on Twitter. He said it was “a rare kind of Real Madrid fan.” Um, yeah.  Balls of steel bi-teamual or just your average dude with a death wish?

Is it bad that I go away for 5 weeks and this blog was one of the things on my miss list?! I was at the Bernabeu today (it would be when all the boys are in America) but was pretty confused about the fact that the only shirt not for sale was Kaka’s… Have I missed something?!?! Is he leaving us :(? Now going to attempt to scroll through a LOT of posts 😀

Oh dear. Nothing has been announced or even seriously talked about as far as I know. Poor Kaka.

I’m honored you missed us! 🙂 There have been pictures and reports about Kaka’s jersey being removed from the store for a couple of weeks but it’s good to have definite confirmation from someone who has been to the Bernabeu. Apparently Modric’s have been removed from the Tottenham as well. But nothing has been stated by either team. Still in negotiation. 😦

oh, that just makes me so sad about kaka’s jersey. 😦 bah. do not want. 😦

that messi jersey is HILARIOUS. i wish someone would wear it to a barca match and loudly, drunkenly shout “CRISTIANO!” every time messi stepped on the pitch. :-\ but i stop short at the laser pointers — that’s just a dickish move. (sorry … still bitter about the vegas match and the losers sitting behind me.)

Congratulations to Cristiano! And judging by the pattern, the next winner will be Wesley Schneider again!
