Bits & Bobs: New York, New York, Norma’s In For The Long Haul, The Baby Gets A Big Boy Callup, Philly Hotel

9 Aug

So, so tired after last night’s match. I’ll have pictures and whatnot to put up here, but not until after the weekend. I have an old friend visiting from out of town tonight and tomorrow, I’m off to Philly. See this picture? It was taken about 15 feet from where our seats were. Where were Shigs & I at the time? Eating chocolate covered strawberries and shrimp in the Legends Suite because last night, that was how we rolled. Believe me, it was weird. Sitting around in our jerseys being waited on and supping on pommery sage encrusted pork tenderloin before a match was a bit surreal. I’m usually a beer & cheesesteak kinda girl. Anyhow, we missed all the pre-game action because we were stuffing our faces. We splashed out on the Legends package in celebration of Shiggers’ birthday.

Here’s a couple more pictures of the guys hanging around pre-match. Bloated Lozil & Shigs snarfing skirt steak and goat cheese polenta not pictured.

Congrats to Norma Desmond (aka Angel Di Maria) not only for that stonking goal last night but for renewing his contract with Real Madrid through the 2017-2018 season. Here’s some pix for the ladies out there who like their men skinny and angular.

Lest you think I am joking, I do know that there are some Angel Di Maria fangirls out there. They exist, people! I have seen it on Tumblr!

A big hearty mazel tov to The Baby, who got his first call up to the French senior national team for a friendly against Uruguay. A thank you goes out to new coach Didier Deschamps. (If you really want to make me happy, Didier, you should think about calling up The Baby’s former France U21 teammates Benjamin Stambouli & Remy Cabella sometime.) Karim was also named to the squad. I really hope The Baby makes his debut! I like that Deschamps called up 4 uncapped players this time.

The team went to Philly after the match last night and will stay at the Ritz Carlton throughout their time there. This is their last match before returning to Spain. Xabi tweeted this picture from his hotel room.

Cris posted a picture with his friend Yankees legend Mariano Rivera who was also a guest at the Chelsea/PSG game.

Iker posted a couple of pictures from his U15 team’s trip to Boliva. Bebe Iker!

Sergio informed us that he dedicated his header last night to his mother and posted a link to one of his power ballads: El Cobo – Soñaré (con María Toledo) – Agua de Menta, nuevo disco

Arbeloa shared yet another Pipita quote: ‘Y seguimos con las #PipitasQuotes “Se te llena el culo de preguntas!” o___O by @G_Higuain’ Now Google Translate says “It fills you up the ass of questions!” which can’t be exactly right but if it’s close, I’m guessing Arbeloa’s googly eyes expression comes from thinking how many questions would it take to fill up the arse of Pipita. A million? Two million? That’s a lot of ass, so I’m imagining it would take a lot of questions. Can someone please give us a better translation? BTW, I got some good bench pictures of Arbeloa giggling sandwiched in between Albiol and Pipita. Wahey!

And finally, head on over to Go Fug Yourself and click through the photoset of the Beckhams at a beach volleyball match. The captions are hilarious.

Oh, if you are coming to Philly and would like to meet up tomorrow night or after the match on Saturday, please send me a note at hbandshbreak@gmail.com  – a bunch of us have booked into the same hotel and are planning to get together and post match, we’ll be grabbing a few pints while the crowds clear out before heading back to NYC.

More later when I recover from seeing Sergio’s abs from up close, wake up, head off to the next match, etc.

– Lozil

Is it really possible to recover from seeing Sergio’s abs that close? I still find myself getting a bit overheated.

It was dizzy making. I told Maisougio about our discussion of his abs and her reaction and she was laughing her ass off. And we’re not even Serg Sisters! But dang, that boy is put together right.

I interpreted Pipita’s quote as, “You’ve got an ass full of questions,” or “Your ass is full of questions.”

Hmmm, depends on who he was talking to then. Angel Di Maria? Not much arse, not too many questions. Fernando Torres, buckets full of both. 😉

So how was the game? Did it suck?

I was higher (a lot higher) up than you guys, but when Sergio walked towards me taking off his shirt… Well, it’s a good thing I had my camera up. All I could do was hold the button down. I’m still getting all flustered about it.

You lead a charmed life, my friend. Mmmm, sage-flavored pork tenderloin…

As for #PipitaQuotes… I don’t have enough contact with Iberic slang to have the right to an opinion, but while “That leaves you with an assload of questions!” is the more natural sounding version, it’s absolutely NO fun compared to the Engrish “It fills your ass with questions.”

Sigh, I missed the Sergio ab moment! It’s ok though, my man has a pretty nice midsection and beautiful arms. Anyway…I went to the hotel and waited outside for a couple of hours. All of them walked straight to the bus. Sergio was last.probably because he was busy tweeting about leaving for the game. I got crappy video if it all, and not worth the low blood sugar and heatstroke! hehe. We had a great time together at the game. He’s a Cristiano fan and everyone knows who floats my boat. Used all of my battery on the hotel so I didn’t get any game shots! Sooo..I’ll be stealing yours! Hope you don’t mind? Trying very hard to not be jealous of your up close ab moment.

it was a great game, even though i idiotically left my camera battery charging at HOME and had to use my not-so-great iphone for photos. argh. my seat was okay, but next time, i’m totally splurging!

the match was brilliant, though, and the boys did very, very well! the atmosphere was terrific and everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves. 🙂

i’m a bit indifferent towards di maria, mostly because of his diving. if he’d stay on his feet more, i think i’d respect him a bit more. still, i’m glad we’re locking down key players for the foreseeable future. i’ll be happy when the transfer window closes, though!

hope to see you guys tomorrow!

Exactly this about Di Maria! I always say that a light breeze could knock him over and he’s more likely to get injured with all of that theatrical rolling around than anything. He is a brilliant player, but until he knocks that shit off…

So I clicked on the Go Fug Yourself link of the Beckhams at the Olympics and laughed my head off. Thank you very much! Then I rooted around and found a photogallery dedicated to Olympic swimmers’ abs. You know, I don’t know why we have to keep waiting for Sergio and Co. to take off their shirts to reveal a slight glimpse of their abs, when swimmers have skin for shirts and wear nothing but the tightest of coverage. So this is why I set aside football pre-season for the Olympics. Here is the photogallery for your viewing pleasure: http://gofugyourself.com/well-played-olympian-abs-08-2012

You should hang out with the plebs next time, then you won’t miss the crucial pre-game moments 😉 I have so many of the pre-game shots of the same things happening above, except at a different angle and protective netting blocking the way. But somehow I missed Sergio abs! Got some shirtless Pipa though.

    • Kristine August 10, 2012 at 8:56 am #

Yes, I saw the shirtless Pipita! We were sitting right in front of the walkway. It was marvelous!
