The Calm Before The Injury Storm

19 Aug

Here’s some shots of the boys arriving today at the Bernabeu for what would turn out to be a disappointing tie with several of our players ending up bleeding and/or mangled. Ugh. There will be a recap of the game, but definitely not tonight.

The Ramos took a boot to the face while Pepe and Iker had a sickening collison with their heads that scared the ever lovin’ crap out of me. Pepe was the most seriously injured and is spending the night in the hospital for observation.

Cris has already been to visit him and we can only hope that it’s nothing serious and he makes a speedy recovery. Animo Pepe! I hate seeing injuries like this. Reminds me of what happened in the Real Madrid-Celtic match (with Nuri Sahin & Dylan McGeough) last week or the collison between Dudu Aouate/Adam Szalai (which was beyond horrifying – I was surprised that Dudu didn’t snap his neck. Thank god they’re both alright).

I had several heart attacks when Iker and Pepe didn’t get right back up. And Iker looked so bad by halftime, I was sure he wasn’t coming back out. I think that game took many years off my life. I hope Pepe makes a speedy recovery. Scary moments for sure.

Me too. Our whole table just kept going “OMG. OMG. OMG.” I can’t believe that Iker came back out. He looked so dazed.

Xabi took a knock too in the second half.

Same here, several heart attacks, Sergio and the boot, Pepe and Iker. Sigh. Casillas looked so groggy and dazed and initially they were just lying there on the pitch. It was just so scary. Hope Pepe gets better soon and the boys can regroup. Hala Madrid!

I was unhappy about having to miss the match but now I am sort of glad I did. Just reading this post made me super stressed/sad;The thought of Segio’s face being hit by a boot:( Poor Pepe! I don’t what I would have done if I had watched it live – Probably would have had several near heart attacks:( I hope the boys get well soon,

Oh my god, that collision was terrifying. I never ever ever want to see my beloved players (or anyone else) on the ground like that. But one thing I’ll say for Iker and the people who train him: he knows how to fall. It looked like he got clocked pretty hard across the side of his face when they all crashed into each other, but he managed to tuck his chin as he went down so that he didn’t hit his head on the ground. It takes serious luck and skill to do that, and, even though he did, he definitely looked rattled for the rest of the match. But a crash like that would rattle anyone. Eeek. I read an interview a bit ago where he said he was all right, though, and hopefully Pepe will have a quick recovery, too. No more of that in the future, please!

    oh my god! 😦

GOL TV doesn’t carry la liga in canada any more, thanks to some stupid contract thing, so i have no way of watching the matches live any more … and i think today, at least, i’m glad about that! this is the very first i’m hearing about what happened — yikes! i’m fairly certain i would have had a heart attack watching iker go down like that (and poor pepe, xabi and sergio, too, by the sounds of it). not a good start to the season. 😦 animo!

I was beyond terrified every time someone took a knock to the head:( And i was about ready to run out the room when neither Pepe nor Iker got up straight away! Not a good way to end my Eid:( Animo Pepe!

I couldn’t watch the game yesterday but wow that looked like some scary shit! First picture I saw was Sese’s bleeding head and then Iker and Pepe! I hope he’s OK. Valencia sure decided to play rough to hold our boys down, they had way more yellow cards. I hope the other teams don’t think that this is the way to play them in the future. Too bad the guys couldn’t cash in all the chances they had, but it did show that they were very eager. And they sure are fighters in every right sense of the word. Iker playing a full game even after that collision and Ramos still attempting headers even with a wounded forehead. I’m really proud even if they didn’t win and this will only make them more determined to do better. Now I’m trying to find a place to download the entire game instead of the small fragments I already saw last night. Damn, I can’t watch the two following games either because I will be on a plain to the south of France. You see what these guys do to me? Going on holiday should make me happy not pissed … 🙂

People can say what they want about Pepe, but my god that was terrifying. At first it didn’t look too serious (and I was more preoccupied bemoaning the goal), but when neither got to their feet and I noticed Pepe was bleeding my heart skipped a beat. Iker looked so blank/disorriented while assuring the medics he was okay. I know many are making a big deal because it ended in a draw (and because Barca won their game 5-1), but it’s just the first game of the season and considering Pepe was subbed off and Iker played on in clearly not the best shape, am satisfied with a draw. Don’t know if Pepe will be up for the match against Barcelona, but right now I rather he just make a full recovery, regardless how long it takes.

Should I be glad that I missed this match?
This whole beinsport thing has me very disappointed. I want to protest. I just don’t know and don’t have time to research the avenues for doing so. are live streams a source of virus? don’t want to endanger my puter just to watch a match. I will leave it to you ladies and Una to keep me informed!

    • MissLadya August 20, 2012 at 10:00 am #

Una has gone on indefinite hiatus 😦

If you get DirecTV or have access to it, it’s on channel 620. It’s also on DishNetwork. You can contact your provider here to ask them to carry it: http://www.beinsport.tv/

Hmm, I think one word says it all:

    “Ouch!”

    (game & injuries)

I so did not like watching this match. All the crashes were terrifying. Too many injury boo-boos on our boys. I hope they recover swiftly and may that be that last of the injuries for the season.

the best part of that match was seeing mou suited up properly on the sidelines.

    • headbandsandheartbreak August 20, 2012 at 4:29 pm #

I agree! I was squealing on Twitter about the return of the suit!
