Modric Gets Right To Work And Other Bits & Bobs

27 Aug

Modric didn’t waste any time – he got busy immediately.  Poor El Pirata. He looks stunned by a blunt  object in this picture (well in several of them). More midfield competition for him.

Marcelo decided to share this picture of his doggie today saying “My Lola  So much swag!” Poor Lola! She always looks so put upon. So cute.

Meanwhile, Iker posted a video of himself being interviewed in 1999. He looks like such a baby! Hard to believe that little one is our big strong capi.

El Pirata shared his morning cup of coffee with us via Instagram. As you do. Well, as you do if you’re Pirata. Must be a hipster thang because Xabi has a tendency to do this from time to time as well.

And finally, here’s a little shot that Romina posted today of her and a friend. You can see her tummy and the Guti baby are getting much bigger!

That picture of Granero in the background says it all, doesn’t it? Poor hipster.

Esteban’s face about sums up how I feel regarding this Modric situation.

I’ll tolerate him for now but the first time he gets a start over Mesut he goes on my shit list.

Can’t imagine he’d replace Mesut. They play slightly different positions, and Mesut is more of a playmaker (which the team needs) than Modric, who plays better deeper in the field. Unless Mou changes the formation.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Modric AND Ozil play, but my one concern with that is that Modric would get to play in the middle while Ozil plays off to the right (ain’t no one gonna pry Ronaldo from that left wing XD). Ozil’s game always suffers when he’s pushed out wide because his space becomes far more limited.

I think I’ll approach his arrival with cautious optimism. Right now the team is struggling to get going, and maybe a new talent can help breathe some life into our boys.

But, yeah, in the (unlikely) event that he upstages Mesut and takes his starting role I will officially declare Modric public enemy #1 XD

Modric has been playing deeper, but for a while, Harry used him pretty far up the pitch, and Luka was really good! For Tottenham, yes, and it’s not Real Madrid, but if Ozil remains out of form, I wouldn’t really be surprised to see Mou try Luka out in different positions. He has gotten pretty versatile IMO.

Am not yet (that) concerned about Mesut. He hasn’t played his best games since the start of the season, but he hasn’t been terrible. Frankly, the whole team has had a wobbly start. He made several good passes and runs in the past few games, but he can only do so much if the other guys are unable to finish. (We all know his finishing has never been his strong point.) I just think that, as usual, supporters and the media are blowing things out of proportions. Not to be malicious, I think, but because we all know how brilliant Özil *can* be, so when he falls just short of that it frustrates a lot of people and suddenly he’s labelled “out of form” when really he’s just having an average run, which isn’t the end of the world. He had a pretty poor spell last season, but bounced back tenfold.
… But, yeah, that miss in the last game was pretty horrendous.
(Personally, I blame his Lad Vegas binge for his current state. Still has to get all that partying out of his system :P)

Dawwwwwwwww!! He’s so tiny (compared to the other guys, anyway)! 🙂

According to Marca, Granero’s now on the market. Is this true? That’s the trade-off for Modric? *stifles tears* They say QPR and Spurs are bidding, so the only small consolation I have is that our hipster Pirata will likely love it in London. I think I’m going to need a moment now…

Sobbing at this…but at the same time it’s expected. He can hang out with his bestie Juan Mata if he does go to a London club though. I’ve always thought he would end up at Arsenal at some point tbh.

      Someone please tweet him this.

I’m sorry madridista friends, but I’m DYING to see El Pirata flourish in his natural environment.

That map is funny, but geographically way off base. The person who put it together doesn’t have a good grasp of London geography at all even if they know their hipsters. 😉 I’ve lived in both North and South London. I think Pirata would love it to pieces.

        • drea August 28, 2012 at 12:33 pm #

At first I thought it was a map, but turned upside down or something because the locations are so whuuut? But then now I think it’s actually a graph… which would suggest that, on a proportional money vs hipsterness incline, we’d find Pirata hanging out somewhere in Hackney, hehe.

          • headbandsandheartbreak August 28, 2012 at 12:39 pm #

AHHHHHH! That would make more sense because, dang, it was hella confusing to anyone who knows London geography.

            • Caro H August 28, 2012 at 3:10 pm #

It IS a graph, as indicated by the Your Mom Doing the Macarena -> Chloe Sevigny Instagramming a Cupcake axis. Once I saw that, everything fell into place.

I was thinking Shoreditch for El Pirata, but I’ll take whichever, the hipster quotient is going to explode into the stratosphere either way.

              • drea August 30, 2012 at 2:08 am #

Sorry, I meant as in the borough of Hackney. If I remember correctly (too tired to google, hehe), Shoreditch and Dalston are in Hackney, I think. Looks like there’s still a possibility he’ll stay, but now I’m starting to really like the idea of Pirata in London. Modric seems to have been integrated quite quickly (how much do we love Cris for being the head of such a warm welcoming party?), so it’s looking like a lot of bench time in Madrid for Pirata and Kaka if they stay. I’m kinda hoping Pirata starts some sort of online journal (or correspondence thing with Jot Down) about his expat hipster adventures in London… or is that not cool anymore?
