UPDATED: The End Of The Transfer Window And Other Bits & Bobs

31 Aug

Well, that’s that then. The transfer window is closed. Apparently Lille wouldn’t let Debuchy go. Sigh. But there was some movement on our end. Chelsea’s Michael Essien is coming to Real Madrid on a one year loan and Lass’s transfer to Anzhi is official pending a medical. Looks like Kaka and Carvalho are still with us.

Can’t say that I’m thrilled with how everything turned out but it is what it is. Tottenham pulled out the stops today, ending up with Hugo Lloris and Clint Dempsey, which is great for them. QPR got Pirata and Julio Cesar. It’s going to be interesting to see how things go for everyone. Here’s a few other bits & bobs:

Sergio and his brother in law Carlos hung out with their buddy, singer Canelita. Sergio rocking his beloved James Dean shirt.

Calleti hung out with Pablo Ibáñez (aka The Man In Black) and also, apparently Arbeloa as he thanked him for the gift! I’m assuming that he means the champagne.

Looks like The Man in Black also decided to give Calleti a trim. Let’s just hope that was for giggles. I can’t take a catastrophic haircut on top of deadline day.

Watishista wynmere let us know that Pirata has already changed his Twitter profile picture to reflect his new club. He also tweeted a picture of the crest and said that a “big new challenge is going to start.” He’s definitely going to endear himself to QPR fans quickly.

And watishista rhi777 posted this shot in the comments of an earlier post about Pirata – not sure if everyone saw it, so here it is again.

And there you have it. Now it’s time for me to get some sleep. Gotta be up early tomorrow so I can get everything done before the QPR/Man City match kicks off. Gotta cheer on our Pirate.

UPDATE: How the hell did I forget to link to this? As soon as I posted, I realized I had forgotten it.  Brooks Peck had me laughing all day with this piece on Dirty Tackle: Jose Mourinho’s expert analysis of the Champions League group draw

All I’m going to say is poor Ajax, such a brutal, hilarious and correct assessment.

And here I was trying to console myself with thought of Pirata and Bocanegra playing on the same pitch, but no Carlos get loaned to Racing Santander

I am glad that QPR put Joey Barton on loan to Marseilles. Now he won’t negatively influence our dear tranquil Pirata with his temper and violence!

calleti is adorable (such a ham!) and pirata personifies what it is to be a good sport. class act, that boy. not that i’d expect anything less, mind you.

*sigh* i just … gah. we won the league last year. why mess with perfection? you could argue we didn’t “mess” with it too much — the players that have left didn’t contribute greatly (no disrespect intended) because they didn’t get a lot of playing time, and the players that are coming in ostensibly will add more value than those who departed, but … i just … gah. why do i feel like we didn’t GAIN anything? we still have carvalho, we lost granero, we failed to sign debuchy, we still have kaka (which could be good or bad, depending on how he fits into mou’s plans — if he’s going to use him, great! but if he’s going to sit on the bench all season, it’s a waste) … i’m sure mou knows what he’s doing, and i have to have faith, but right now, i feel kind of nonplussed.

PS: someone on ONTD_FB suggested that because we only have essien for a year on loan, that the year would be used for pirata to gain experience and playing time at QPR and then come back to us (as there’s a buy-back clause). i LOVE this theory. 🙂

I cant believe Essien has gone to you lot, strangest thing to happen in the transfer window, I love him to bits, but hes lost a lot of pace and strenght, though can play right back (dont ask – Jose based madness)

I read that the buy back is available after his second season with QPR. I can only hope!!

Btw what do you think the chances are that Sese (and all the other guys who have that shirt) has actually seen a James Dean movie? I say slim to none!
