Amsterdam Arrival, Mou & Arbeloa Pressers

2 Oct

The team arrived in Amsterdam earlier today. I was off watching today’s Champions League matches. Ended up coming home and taking a nap after some not all that exciting/inspiring matches. It was pouring and cold and miserable. Seemed like a much better idea to be home in bed with a cup of tea than sitting around for a snoozefest. Did anyone see any exciting games?

The team is staying at the Hotel Okura for all those looking to catch a glimpse of the boys. Mou and Arbeloa met with the press and the mothership had photos/excerpts.

Mourinho: “Nothing distracts me from my aim of winning the match against Ajax”

“In the Champions League every point is crucial and every loss pushes you towards a dangerous situation” the Whites’ coach added

José Mourinho appeared in the press room at the Amsterdam Arena the day before the match against Ajax. The Portuguese coach spoke about his team’s first match away from home in the Champions League: “I studied Ajax as usual and they are a better team than last year. I have not stayed at home as many would, I came to see them live and to do my job better. We have worked on some things yesterday and today, and everything is normal. Nobody distracts me from my aim, which is to win or try to win the match tomorrow. It is a match like any other and what happens away from that or what is written doesn’t distract me and nor do I think it does the players either”.

Mourinho spoke about Frank de Boer and the Whites’ next opponent: “I want to thank Frank, he has said positive things about me. We worked together for two years. We have continued, without having much contact, being friends and respecting one another. He is a young coach, he works very well and is growing in the same way that his team is and I am sure that they will be even stronger than in previous seasons. I think they are more accustomed to the Champions League and are a more tactical team than in other years and they are good on the counter and have a good team”.

When asked about his trip to Amsterdam to study the next opponent he was clear: “It’s my job to have seen them live, as was going to see Manchester City. I could have seen it on television, but I took a plane and I was here. I’m happy to be here. There are some of the same players from last season and they have the same philosophy. In my opinion they have a team that is well-prepared for the Champions League, better than last year. I do not know if they are a weaker team, I think the players are gaining more years’ Champions League experience. For many, tomorrow will be the fifth time that they have played against us and for them it will be a normal thing. So I do not think they are weaker”.

Following Real Madrid’s recent wins, Mourinho is confident that the team will get another victory in Amsterdam: “The whole team is pulling in the same direction. We have won three straight matches. Against Manchester City we made a special comeback, against Rayo we had a difficult game that the team was able to win and against Deportivo we went 1-0 behind and only a team that wants to win can comeback like that. It’s a bit of a strange question, because I could ask you if all of you in your job are pulling in the same direction, as opposed to some in one direction and other in the other”.

“I have a Champions League match tomorrow and that is motivation enough. If you ask my players then you will find that there are none that will not say that they really want to start tomorrow. Only 11 can do, I have 24 here, and 13 will be left with a bitter taste in their mouths because the Champions League is a motivation for everyone. I will use the players who can give me the most guarantees tomorrow. I have one with an injury and I do not know if he will be unable to play tomorrow. That is Khedira. Others are ready, some played two days ago and others didn’t and are fresher like Arbeloa, who will play” he said when asked about the possible starting eleven.

About the importance of every Champions League match he said: “Each point is crucial, every loss pushes you towards a dangerous situation. We want to move forward and to continue what we did in the Champions League last year. It was normal to get knocked out early and lose matches three or four years ago. In recent years it has become normal win and to qualify for the next stage and to go a long way and that is what we want to do tomorrow. Our aim is to leave here with more points than we have now. One point will be OK for us but we will try to go home with three”.

About Sergio Ramos and what he said on social networks regarding his gesture in wearing an Özil shirt underneath his own in the match against Deportivo he said: “He is a great professional. I have no problems with him. We have no problem, what he says is true”. On his relationship with man from Seville he joked: “My relationship with my wife is better than my relationship with Sergio Ramos, but my relationship with him is better than it is with people who I do not work with and who I do not share my day with everyday. The same goes for my relationship with Arbeloa and with the rest. About what he said, you’ll have to ask him”.

When asked why Özil has played fewer minutes this season than last season Mourinho said: “Less playing time or less quality playing time? Because, the better the quality, the more playing time”. And about Modric and whether he was missing something or at his best he said: “We need more time training, more matches and more confidence. He needs to get to know his teammates better and his coach’s ideas. He lacks many things”.

Arbeloa was up next…

Arbeloa: “Previous matches mean nothing; Ajax are better and more dangerous now”

“We are in a very difficult group and we cannot afford to drop points in any games” the Madrid defender said about the match
Realmadrid.com

Arbeloa spoke to the media in the press room at the Amsterdam Arena where Real Madrid will play Ajax tomorrow in their second Group D match in the Champions League. The Madrid defender analysed their opponents, who won the last two Eredivisie titles: “We are in a very difficult group and we cannot afford to drop points in any games. We have to concentrate and go into the match knowing that it will be hard. We have watched videos of Ajax and the coach has explained that they are much more dangerous than in previous seasons and that we cannot get over confident. We are not thinking about previous matches”.

Regarding the relationship between the coach and the squad, the Madrid player was clear: “We have a lot of respect for Mourinho and we are mature enough that because of this and the trust we place in him, if there is something we are unhappy about we discuss it in private with him. We have a very good relationship with him”.

On the subject of reports that there are several cliques in the Real Madrid dressing room, Arbeloa said: “These reports do not help us, and if I say that the situation is the opposite, the people who make them will not believe me. I get on better with some people in this group than with others, but this happens everywhere. I do not have much to say about this. I suspect the people who say it really do not know us and do not know what happens in our dressing room. We are very close to each other and to the coach”.

Finally, asked about Sergio Ramos and the Özil shirt that he wore under his own in the second half of the match against Deportivo la Coruña, he said: “We realised in the second half because he was near the bench. He has explained why he put it on and we shouldn’t add anything else. He wanted to dedicate him a goal and that is all. I have told Sergio what I think and that is between the two of us”.

I can’t even appreciate Arbeloa’s prettiness right now because my favorite player, Puyol, got mangled today. Animo Puyi!!!

I just heard! Poor Puyi! 😦

Puyi’s having a bad year with injury after injury. I wonder if the “Iker Retire” brigade is also on to him?

the who in the what, now? there’s an IKER RETIRE brigade?! who are these people? find them. bring them to me. i’ll have them crying for their mommies in 10 seconds flat. 😐

I saw some of those photos. So terrible. It’s always a shame when a player gets seriously injured like that, but I feel extra bad for Puyol considering he was just injured. Hope he gets better and is able to get back on the pitch very soon!

seriously, what do the press expect??? That a player would say that the team has a terrible relationship with the coach, while sitting next to him?? Or say any negative things about his team at all?

Bit concerned about this comment, ” I have told Sergio what I think and that is between the two of us”, of Arbeloa. It sounds a tad ominous.
But Mou saying he had a better relationship with his wife than with Sergio made me crack up!

Did you watch Chelsea vs Nordsjælland, it was rather exciting and we won 4:0!!

    hope your asthma is better?

I didn’t watch the Chelsea match – it was good, eh? I don’t like blow out matches, so I’m not sure how I would have felt about that (I like a bit of give and take between the teams, not one dominating).

My asthma is much better today, thanks! I was able to get out and do some things but I got tired out pretty quick. I go back to work tomorrow so fingers crossed I’ll feel well the whole day. Thank you so much for asking. 🙂

This book I have about using food as medicine recommends brewed black coffee for asthma as the caffeine works like the ingredient in the inhaler to open up the bronchioles. Of course, you’ll be very awake. Milk is to be avoided as it creates mucus that will add to congestion.

I think Arbeloa is pretty straight forward to Sese. After all he isn’t afraid of calling him “tutti frutti”! So he probably just told him the truth that if this happened last season it would have been a sweet and nice gesture, but under this circumstances it was a stupid thing to do.

I watched Chelsea too. Great game although with only 0-1 they lived kind of dangerously. But the last 15 minutes ware fantastic! I especially enjoyed Luiz’ goal! Must say that Nordsjaelland put up a good fight.

    2. Wtf happened to Puyol, and whatever it was I hope he’ll get better soon too 😦
    3. Still kicking myself for missing Real at Schiphol yesterday. Am surprised my shins are not black and blue right now 😡

i used to say it on una’s blog all the time, but … my god, arbeloa is beautiful. he definitely has a career as a model if he gets fed up with football!

i didn’t know about puyi, but it makes me sad to hear it — he’s one of my favourites. animo! 😦

reading between the lines on that comment about telling sergio what he thought and it was between the two of them, i totally agree with phédre — last year, that would have been lovely. this year, it’s a dumb thing to do, all things considered.

    i hope they win tonight!
