Prepping For The Clasico, Mou Interview, Bits & Bobs And La Roja Call Ups

5 Oct

This is just going to be another quick post and for that I’m heartily sorry. I got news about an hour or so ago that a dear friend was rushed to the hospital with a blood clot. We almost lost him, but thank god, he’s stable now. As soon as I can leave work (another hour from now), I’m tearing up to the hospital to see him. I’m waiting for some calls back on some stuff that must be done today so I can’t go just yet. It sucks that I can’t get out sooner, but taking a few minutes to update the blog is calming me down a bit. If I was just sitting here twiddling my thumbs, I’d go mad.

So, the freaking Clasico is Sunday. As ever, I am not ready, but I certainly hope that they boys are!

Mou was interviewed by BeIn Sport and had a bit to say about the Clasico, as you would imagine.

Mourinho: “Real Madrid-Barcelona is a match that we love to play, football lovers all over the world stop when there is a clasico”

“I’m happy and I want to stay where I am. I signed with Real Madrid for another four years and this club is the best in world football” said the Real Madrid coach to Bein Sport TV

Real Madrid play Barcelona this Sunday in what will be the third clasico of the season and Real Madrid coach José Mourinho gave an interview to Bein Sport TV in which he spoke about the match and the latest news at the club “Real Madrid-Barça is a match that we love to play. They probably do too. That means that a clasico is a little more than other normal league matches. Football lovers all over the world stop when Barcelona play against Real Madrid. The number of viewers for last Spanish Super Cup showed that they was more interest than for many Champions League matches. But our goal is to win the championship. El clasico is only worth three points. This Sunday’s match is a league match. Two direct rivals who know that if one of them takes the three points the other can’t.” he said.

The Real Madrid coach highlighted the great time that he is having at the club as much on a personal level as on a professional level. “I’m happy and I want stay where I am. I have signed with Real Madrid for four years and this is the top club in world football. After England and Italy, Madrid was missing from my CV. Now that I have it, I have to work to the best of my ability. Everyone knows that I was very happy living in London and my family were too. I’m sure that I will go back there because I want to coach for a long time and in Madrid it is difficult to do it for a long period” Mourinho acknowledged.

Real Madrid aim to win everything this season and the Portuguese explained the key to the team’s Champions League group as they look for their tenth European title. “It is all about the details. I think we are all unanimous in thinking that last season Chelsea were not the best team in the world. But they won the Champions League. And I’m pleased because after all I am a little bit ‘blue’. To be able to lift the Champions League trophy you need to be in the quarterfinals or semi-finals. Then you can either win the competition or not. We want to get there but this group is incredibly difficult because it contains the Spanish, English, German and Dutch champions”.

The Whites’ squad features two of the best forwards in the world and José Mourinho had words of praise for them both. “Benzema moves like a fish in water. Sometimes I play him as a number nine and sometimes as a number ten. He is a player whose game is based on movement. Higuaín is more traditional striker; he is there to finish attacking moves. In my case I need both Karim as much as El Pipa Higuaín. Managing the pitch time of these two forwards is not easy. I analyse the type of match, the opposition and our tactics and based on all of that I make my decision”.

A couple of quick bits and bobs. So what do you do in your spare time if you’re a professional football player? Apparently, play pick up games with your mates if you’re David Luiz!

Iker, Sara and Doce went out for walkies.

El Pirata is busy quoting Mumford & Sons on Twitter “Don’t hold a glass over the flame Don’t let your heart grow cold I will call you by name I will share your road #m&s” Nice to know we’re listening to the same things.

Nuri Sahin posted some adorable shots of his baby son Omer saying “Great day at home with my new Yankee 🙂 ” What’s  the deal with Omer’s There’s Something About Mary hair?

Speaking of cutie pie bebes, here’s Marcelo and Enzo being their usual adorable selves.

Apparently Kaka’s wife Carol has been going to chef school and it was her last day. She has her own engraved chef’s knife. This got me thinking what if Kaka has his own too? Of course, I can hear Shiggers screaming from the other side of Manhattan as we speak. It did give me a giggle though.

La Roja call ups were announced for the upcoming international matches vs. Belarus (October 12, Minsk) and France ( October 16, Madrid)..

Victor Valdes Arribas (FC Barcelona)
Jose Manuel Reina (Liverpool FC)
Iker Casillas Fernández (Real Madrid CF)
Álvaro Arbeloa Coca (Real Madrid CF)
Sergio Ramos García (Real Madrid CF)
Raúl Albiol Tortajada (Real Madrid CF)

David Villa (FC Barcelona)
David Jiménez Silva (Manchester City FC)
Fernando Torres (Chelsea FC)
Pedro Rodríguez Ledesma (FC Barcelona)

And with that, I’m almost out of here. More later or tomorrow, y’all.

– Lozil

really hope your friend is on the mend, lozil. *hugs*

it’s always interesting to me to see the formalised versions of everyone’s names. why don’t nando and villa have two surnames (paternal/maternal) like everyone else? or do they have them and just not use them? it’s definitely a more diversified national team these days: i remember when RM and barca dominated the list — not that they don’t still, but there are three national leagues and 12 teams (by my count) represented, which is nice to see.

i think i mentioned i’m in barcelona right now (and going to the clasico on sunday! but i have been told repeatedly to keep my madridsmo on the d/l … which i find a bit ridiculous, but i also get it). today we did the open-top city bus tour and we went past camp nou and it took everything i had not to shout HALA MADRID!!!!! at the top of my lungs (i didn’t … my father said he didn’t have enough money for bail!). 😉

You are going el clasico?! so awesome!

Torres and Villa have two surnames like the others [Fernando José Torres Sanz and David Villa Sánchez], but I am not sure why they are not listed.

      • black widow October 5, 2012 at 7:17 pm #

that’s right — i remember that meme that listed out nando’s full name, but i don’t think i knew villa’s second name. weird that they weren’t listed.

and yes! i am going to el clasico. bit nervous being a madridista in blaugrana territory, but i’ll manage!

I was in Barcelona this summer. I am a cule, so I may be biased, but you should totally do the Camp Nou Experience tour. It’s awesome! They let you hold the Champion’s League trophy!

Hope your friend is okay and recovers quickly!!!

I feel an odd sense of calm heading into Sunday. Which can only mean all the anxiety will come out during the actual match. Which will be fun for my friends who are all not football fans but have agreed to come watch with me (they have no idea what they’re in for…)

I hope your friend feels better soon.

It’s Canadian thanksgiving this weekend, which is usually a great thing, except when you have to go see your family on the same day as el clasico. I am trying to find a way out but doesn’t look too promising. The best part: my (health conscious) family decided not to have a traditional thanksgiving dinner at home, instead they plan to spend the day at a national park [with NO WI-FI] enjoying the nice fall weather. fml

Thinking good thoughts for your friend, Lozil! I hope he has a quick recovery.

  9. Mais October 5, 2012 at 10:19 pm #

I hope your friend is doing well Lozil! Glad he’s stable now 🙂

Getting nervous about the Clasico, but getting more nervous about all this Sergio-is-in-a-new-relationship talk! Has anyone else seen that? Not sure what the full story is, so I’d appreciate any details if you have them Lozil, or anyone else. I saw some posts over the last few days, like this one:!/photo.php?fbid=436596193043562&set=a.132190120150839.10781.128530973850087&type=1&theater not too sure which magazine it’s taken from, but I think it’s Hola. Has this been known for a while? So out of the loop at the moment. Bloody thesis! Haha.

    • CinematiqueChic October 6, 2012 at 2:43 am #

Haha – last year my thesis got in the way of my football watching/footballer oogling. So this year I’m trying this thing where I just ignore my thesis. It’s working well so far!

Supposedly Sergio is dating TV presenter Pilar Rubio. Which might be true, but it also seems like surprise surprise the media is trying to make more of it than it is. Like they said he got a tattoo of her name, but the tattoo in question is the one for his dad that he got ages ago. And they said she’s living with him but (according to my iffy Spanish anyway) their proof was that her driver knew the door code or something stupid like that. I have yet to see actual photos of them together. So we’ll see how this unfolds.

      • Mais October 6, 2012 at 4:22 am #

Oh my thesis is eating up my life. It’s due in a week, so I’ll have my freedom back. I’ve been checking the blog every day but had no time to comment etc. Haha I like your plan!

Yes! As soon as I saw that stupid tattoo thing I thought, well clearly your credibility is amazing…

I guess we’ll just have to wait and see how it unfolds. If it does.

        • juni October 6, 2012 at 10:36 am #

haha couldnt help but comment after all the thesis talk! i’ve got mine due on monday morning! i’m trying not to feel guilty about watching the clasico instead of grammar checking though the boys are both a distraction and a calm and trolling this blog has definintely kept me going through the all nighters. hoping for a win tomorrow so i can submit on a good note 🙂 but win or lose hala madrid! all the best to you both with your theses! and all the best to your friend Lozil! sending lots of good thoughts and prayers from Africa! 🙂

          • CinematiqueChic October 6, 2012 at 4:23 pm #

Juni and Mais – good luck with your respective theses!!

And never feel guilty about taking time out to watch el clasico. Last year I was so busy I barely watched any matches. Now I wish I’d watched more football and stressed out way less about my work 🙂

          • headbandsandheartbreak October 8, 2012 at 9:13 pm #

Did you turn in your thesis? I hope it went well!

  10. Akemi October 5, 2012 at 10:40 pm #

I hope your friend gets well soon, Lozil.

I’m excited about El Classico weekend but I’m kinda bummed about the La Roja call ups. When will Mikel Arteta ever get called up even for just a friendly?!?!?!

  11. Bombay Talkies (@BombayTalkies) October 5, 2012 at 11:44 pm #

I babysit a kid who lives in a building next door to the Bernabeu, and today we went to play football at a park behind the stadium–there was a gang of ten or so middle aged men running around the outside of the stadium, wearing Barca jerseys and screaming ‘visca Barca’ at the top of their lungs. Apparently they do it before every Clasico. Seems more like something you’d do on a dare after having far too much to drink…

    • tasha October 6, 2012 at 4:05 am #

That would totes hi larious I would laugh my ass off. It sounds so random.

  12. panama October 6, 2012 at 3:17 am #

All the best for your friend, Lozil. I hope he recovers quickly!
Kudos to you for being there for your friends and staying strong.

On another note, how freaking cute is baby Ömer?! His smile, the hair, the little jersey… Footballers seem to have mad baby-making skills 😉

    • tasha October 6, 2012 at 3:41 am #

Lozil I hope ur friend makes a full recovery I’m praying 4 him.*hugs*

    • Mais October 6, 2012 at 4:25 am #

Hi Tasha, what I know is that your first surname is that of your dad’s and the second surname is the mother’s. E.g: Sergio Ramos Garcia. Ramos is the father’s surname, Garcia is the mother’s surname. I believe that’s how it works, but I could be wrong, so if someone thinks I am, please correct me! 🙂 Worried about the Clasico too, but we can only hope for the best, the score against Ajaxis bound to motivate them! 🙂

      • tasha October 6, 2012 at 4:46 am #

Hi mais. thnk u that makes a lot of sense. Hopefully it does motivate them. HALA MADRID

  14. Phédre October 6, 2012 at 7:13 am #

Sending my best wishes for your friend, Lozil! Hope he’s alright soon!

Well Mou, that’s great you love to play Clasico’s. Just make sure you win them, so I can love watching them instead of turning into a nervous wreck.
I hope the boys play as good as they did during the second game of the Supercopa. HALA MADRID!
