2 Goals, 1 Clean Sheet

23 Oct

I hate missing any match of the season!!! It sucks when life gets in the way of footy weekends, but from what I was following on twitter, this was a game to miss…since there were plenty of misses during the 90 minutes against Celta. Cris was having an off game and everyone was lacking finish, was the general consensus. Luckily for us, there were two times when finish was not a problem, with Pipita’s smashing cross of a goal & with Cristiano’s penalty. As always, I’m happy for the three points & CLEAN SHEET, but I want my kick ass team back! 😦

Poor Albiol can’t even get starter status after we were hit by the FIFA virus!

Within the first moments after kick off, chances were being made, but so were the misses. We’ve all realized it, but how long ’til Sergio figures out that headers can only be scored with a full head of flowing hair? You’re a foot man now, Pony!

Lovely, lumpy, Pipa didn’t keep us waiting long for a goal, which was super fantASStic. Eleven minutes & GOAL, GOAL, GOALLLL!

The boys ended the first half only one up, the scoreline didn’t present much of a problem since Celta wasn’t giving Iker much to do. Upon returning from half time, the first change was made – Di Maria for Kaka.

And people get mad when I say I’m afraid of newborns…it’s because most of ’em come out looking like this guy!

…if newborns came out looking like this guy….wait, kidding! That’s SO wrong, even for me!

In the 66th minute, Ozi was taken down by Cabral & RM was awarded a penalty. Cris had the opportunity to make up for his misses & double our score. The man looks like a freakin’ footy superhero, of course he shot that thang home!

In the 72nd minute, a second change was made, Callejon got in the game taking Ozi’s spot. Twelve minutes later, Benz came in for Pipita…now like I said, I didn’t catch the match, but from all the pics, gifs, & vids I’ve seen…THIS is the best moment for me! Take it off! Take it off!

Even Karanka can’t stand it! Look at him chewing on folder, is it leather? It’s very BDSM…naughty, naughty, Karankinky.

Ooh, what’s that little smirk for? Did Karankinky get caught ogling our little croissant? Looks like Karankinky wasn’t the only one with eyes for Benz…

What’s most important is that we got the points & we’re moving up on that damned La Liga table. We’re movin’ on up!

Post Match Comments

“As the manager said, after what happened during the week, he knew exactly where each player was going to play. The back four played very well. Celta only had one header at the end of the match and the back four have played really well. Sergio (Ramos) knew his position; Rafa (Varane) when he plays fulfills his role and Pepe played like he always does.”

“We knew that if we let them have the ball they were going to create problems because they always play with the ball. If we gave them possession, they are a team that can pass and play. We were able to exert pressure because they didn’t play with the usual level of confidence.”

“We signed Essien because he is a player that the manager knows very well and the various positions he can play in, and in all of those positions he fulfills his role. Today was an important match after the international break and the response of Essien and the team as a whole is what we expected.”

On the Modric/Xabi/Ozil midfield – “When you choose your squad you know what players you want. When you select players like this, there’s more ball possession. In the first half we didn’t play with the rhythm we wanted and we played too quickly. It’s a shame that Khedira is injured because he’s playing incredibly well. We have a well-rounded squad.”

On the possibility of Nacho becoming like Arbeloa – “It might be a similar situation to that of Arbeloa. I’ve known him for four years because of the Federation. He is a good player because he can play in all the defensive positions. Perhaps he is more suited to playing on the wing.”

On Marcleo’s injury – “At the moment they are operating on him and we hope that with his spirit everything works out for him and that he is back at Valdebebas and forming part of the team dynamic. Whether he plays or not, his spirit is always good for the dressing room.”

“After having as many players out as we did, we had to adapt to the circumstances. We are here to do what it takes and both Essien and I had played on the wings. Real Madrid worked at a good level on defense and was effective in terms of the goal. We are happy to have kept them from scoring, which was fundamental, and with a little more luck the margin could have been larger.”

“Now we have to focus on the Champions League, enjoy the victory, and continue to fight for la Liga. We have to continue on this path and narrow the gap. This weekend’s work is already done. We are very confident and La Liga is very long and as long as no one is mathematically the champion, which won’t be for a while, Real Madrid will be there.”

“It was a quick move, I crossed but because of the position of the defender it went in the goal and it’s a goal all the same. We won an important match and we hope to chain results together allow us to remain in the championship.”

“I am happy because of the goal, the other day I scored and it did me a lot of good. Today I could do it again, in a hard game due to the injuries we have. I suffered a heavy challenge on Wednesday, but luckily I recovered.”

“I never doubted the goalkeeper we have; he’s one of the best, if not the best. He’s a reassuring presence.”

On Marcelo’s surgery – “It went well, he’s a good doctor that has operated on lots of footballers around the world and we hope he recovers quickly.”

“It was hard to create chances, but luckily we won, which is the most important thing. In these tight matches we need to score the second goal in order to be more calm. We know that we can’t lose more points and that to keep up with Barcelona we need to keep winning.”

“We have injuries, but we have a great squad where we can all play wherever and that’s what we’re doing. We’ve had to move players around, but we played well. The manager is in charge and decides who’s playing where and we have to respect his decisions.”

“We can enjoy the victory with the family and start to think about the Champions League, which will be a good game and we’ll see what happens. We have to win three points and go out to win.”

“We all did a good job and were able to keep them from scoring; we’re happy about that. Physically I’m good and psychologically I’m confident; that’s why I play freely and I was able to play a good game.”

“We played against a team that was very solid on defense and therefore we needed to set a faster pace. Also, it’s always complicated to return from games with the national teams. Now we have to go to Dortmund to win to keep up the positive dynamic.”

Bring on the Champions League! HALA MADRID!!!

” The man looks like a freakin’ footy superhero, of course he shot that thang home!”

I always thought Cristiano’s ‘im about to kick a penalty pose’ was very reminiscent of Superman. Especially when his hair is a little longer and that one sweaty curl falls onto his forehead.

It definitely wasn’t the prettiest win ever, but it was better than the one Barca had (if Leo Messi’s got a hat trick and you’re still barely clinging to the lead, it’s bad). The clean sheet was nice, too.

    And “freakin’ footy superhero…” YES.

i’m ride-or-die, but i am seriously exasperated and frustrated with the lack of cohesion this season! 😦 even when we win — which, of course, is great and i’ll take a win any way we can get one, thank you very much — it still seems like such a struggle. where is the 100 point team from last year? (i don’t mean in terms of the points, i mean in terms of the performance.) what’s interesting is we’re second in goals allowed (better than barca, actually — malaga’s in top spot for this one — so maybe that’ll shut certain people up about iker’s performance) and third in goals scored (behind barca and atletico), but we’re fourth in the table. which is better than fifth, which is what we were last week, but we need to keep moving up!

“Did Karankinky get caught ogling our little croissant?”

Do you know that this sentence will now be stuck in my head all day? Got a full class schedule, followed by an evening shift, and I just KNOW I will be smiling/giggling sporadically at random points during the course of the day because this little gem’s gonna keep popping up at the most inopportune times. If I lose points in my debate because I started laughing I’m pinning it on YOU! XD

And yay! Bambi assist! Yeah, technically, he didn’t, since it was a penalty, but I count earning your team a penalty as an assist 🙂

Oh no! Hahaha I’ve been there, mid-speech & got the giggles, so I don’t want it to happen to you! Fingers crossed you forget about Karankinky & the croissant during your debate 😛

Ya know, I was nervous, but I thought the defense held it together really well. And I enjoy watching Varane play. Iker made some boss saves towards the end there too. Certainly not our finest game, but I’ll take the points and the clean sheet and move on.

I can’t watch the match against Dortmund tonight OR our next La Liga match though. When work interferes with football I get seriously grumpy. So just do me proud boys! Hala Madrid!

Considering the changes Mou had to make with Marcelo, Arbeloa, Khedira and Fabio out, the boys played a great game. Especially the defense was really good. But it’s true, there were too many chances that should have gone in. Chances that would not have been missed previous season. And isn’t Alonso out for next La Liga game because of too many yellow cards? Not something that makes me happy.
I know I am completely biased but Sergio really did not deserve that yellow.
And I think it was a good thing that Celta did get dangerous at times. That way Iker could make some great saves wich is good for his confidence.
