Ugh.

24 Oct

What the WHAT was that??? Is it about that time that we should file a missing persons report for our team? Our Real Madrid wasn’t playing Dortmund today, I don’t know who those boys were. No attack, no defense. *sigh* I’m going to post the post-match comments here for y’all to read or just give you guys a place to sound off until I get the game recap together. Honestly, I want to get all my grumbling done & out here, leave the frustration behind,  so I can come back with positivity & fun captions for the recap. Losing blows.

Mou:

“We lost a match and that is not to our satisfaction but it is not a drama. We are second. Everyone knows that this is ‘the group’ and that there are others that are jokes. Now we have two home matches and there are six points that are well within reach and could be enough get through to the second round.”

“A great team will go to the Europa League and a good team will be eliminated. It is very tough. We are in a good position to progress.”

“I said it would be a match decided by turnovers of possession and it was so. It was a tough match and hard to play in. Space could only be found when the moving from one end of the pitch to the other. It is a pitch that looks nice from a distance but it is hard to play the football that we like on. It was a match of few chances and little creativity.”

“In the second half, we said that a goal from us would win it and one from them would lose us the match. They scored and closed up shop. We created lots of chances. It was a match that came down to loosing the ball. A Real Madrid counterattack was dangerous for Borussia Dortmund and the same the other way around. The goals didn’t come. Both of theirs came from the same situation. The danger came from the counterattack.”

“It was a finely balanced match. Perhaps our best time was after they scored. If we’d have closed up like them then maybe the scoreboard would have read differently.”

Regarding Sami’s injury – “It is difficult to answer. I do not like talking about injured players. What I can do is remember what I said at the press conference before the Celta match. The price was yet to be paid.”

On if the absence of Marcelo, Coentrao, & Arbeloa was felt – “I do not like talking about injured players. If you asked the question is because you feel that we lacked something. I don’t talk about players who are not here.”

Cristiano:

“There is no great drama because there are lot of matches left and we are well positioned. We knew that it would be a difficult match against a good team that are very strong at home. That’s football and when you play against a great team the chances of winning are the same for each side.”

“The team did well and the second goal was a little bit lucky. We realise that away from home it is becoming increasingly difficult get anything from matches and today we knew it would be difficult because we were playing a great opponent.”

“We must keep fighting, we have some home matches left and we must win them and get through to the next round. The only response that we can have is to play well and win the upcoming matches.”

Xabi:

“A draw would have been fairer but football produces these things. We expected a this style of match and we knew that they are a hard working team who know how to attack and defend and that didn’t surprise us. Unfortunately they went ahead in the second half and we could not level the scoreboard again. The first goal was following a mistake by us and the second was a bit lucky. Despite the defeat, it was a nice match to play in because of the atmosphere and the pace that it had. It was an even match against a great team, but we have to think about the next one.”

“The next match against Borussia will be key and we must look ahead to that. With the Manchester City’s defeat everything is very tight and for us the upcoming matches and our visit to Manchester will be critical. This is a very difficult group and we knew that this away match was one of the toughest.”

On Iker’s performance – “He played well and made some great saves that kept us in the match, but it’s a shame to leave with a defeat.”

“We were aware of the reasons that they have won the last two Bundesligas. They are making good progress with a young team that want to do things well in the Champions League. We played in a great stadium against a great team but we’re not happy about the result.”

Iker:

“I think we were very good at the back, defending their strength well, which are the set pieces, though perhaps our left wing was a bit taken advantage of. When it looked like we had it under control we should have made us the second goal. We had bad luck because Pepe’s loss caused the first goal and we lacked a bit of play. They’re pretty tight in their field and are always a tough opponent. We managed to equalize the score, which was important, but we leave with a result not expected. ”

“With this defeat the return match is very important and we have to win at home with our fans. In the Bernabeu, the support gives everything and is very important for us, certainly in the next games it will be different. We’re not used to having so many defeats at the start of the season, but we must consider the games.  We have games left in league and copa and you have to go to win. ”

“This was a strong opponent because, although the Bundesliga is not where it should be, the Champions League is different and has responded very well. If we qualify for the next round we would agree with the bad luck in Germany. We are having a lot of injuries and without Khedira, it’s one more setback.

I think I’ll be ready to be positive soon. As always, HALA MADRID.

well, hopefully it will pick up, fingers crossed!! (kinda wish barca was in this group instead of real, see how they would do).

Ugh. No better word to describe it. It was soo disappointing. I understand our defense would be weak with all the injuries, but they were sooo sloppy. The attack was disjointed and they just didn’t seem to flow and lack passion at times…Sigh. Hopefully they get their act together and I’m sure they’ll learn from their mistakes for the return at home. We need to move on, keep strong and Hala Madrid!

Well, on the bright side, this happened…

    The losing still sucks, though.

Not everyday can be a good day…but we’re still in it. It’s the group of death after an international break week plagued by the FIFA virus. I’m bummed, but all things considered ….

The Boys need a day off. Recuperate.

I knew things weren’t going to get better when I saw Xabi Alonso pick a wedgie out of his ass as they went back out at half-time. If things were going as normal, Mr. Perfect would never have a wedgie! 😉

i TOLD iker not to wear those socks. i told him! we had a whole discussion about those bloody ugly socks and how they bring bad luck! (well, in my head we did.)

*sigh* it’s like i said the other day … they just aren’t gelling this season. i don’t know what it is. every win is a struggle, and there aren’t enough wins in the first place. i mean, it isn’t the end of the world, but it’s just so damn demoralising. 😦

and on a semi-unrelated side note, i was just ITCHING to wipe the silent smirk off my cule work colleague’s face. goddamnit …

Well it’s disappointing, of course. But you can’t waltz into a stadium at the German champion’s stadium and just expect to win. Losing by one goal is not embarrassing at all. And it’s only the group stage.

*sigh* I blame my mom, she called like seconds before Dortmund scored both time lol

Ok, I am now convinced that there really is some kind of jinx (or hex?) on the team. Every time the guys seem to find form again something like this happens. One of the girls who works here at the office reads the Spanish gossip sites and she’s convinced it’s Sese’s new girlfriend. Whatever. I just want Mou to figure this shit out already.

Yeah, it sucks to lose, but I didn’t lose any sleep over it. And the match provided us (well, maybe just me then) with some golden moments like Özil’s beautiful pass to Ronaldo, and that adorable moment when Hummels quickly checked if Özil was okay after he’d fouled him. And then my mom provided me with some humor. She doesn’t follow football much, but she did see the Real Madrid v Bayern Munich when Sergio fluffed that penalty, so when he booted the ball high over the net last night she was quiet for a bit (while I was burying my head in my hands), then said, ” … Well, maybe he was worried that first ball might be feeling lonely right about now.” Thanks for that, mum. Needed a good laugh XP

Even though I was upset right after it ended, after the initial disappointment, it’s easier to remember that this was always going to be the most difficult match in the group, and we’re still in second with 2 home matches to go – I really think we will ultimately top the group. I was only able to catch the last 20 minutes, but from what everyone says it just seems like we didn’t play very well. Hopefully this lights a fire under their fine asses and they smash everyone else from here on out.

I know this is abit off topic, but have you all seen the reports that Iker voted for Ramos first, then Ronaldo second, then Xavithird for Ballon D’or? I know that Sergio tweeted something related to it but i thought it seemed more of a joke than Iker actually voting for him? Can anyone shed some light on that or thoughts?

    • Katie Ann October 25, 2012 at 3:22 pm #

That’s the news, yeah. I thought it was a clever set of choices- in terms of politics, at least.

    • CinematiqueChic October 25, 2012 at 4:07 pm #

I heard that also. I know some people are upset that he didn’t vote for Cris first, but it warms my ice cold heart.

I swear games like these are going to be the end of me! I don’t think our defense is the weak link eventhough Pepe’s slip up led to the first goal and Essien didn’t play as good as he did against Celta. They all just seem to have a problem with accuracy, bad passes, missing clear chances. And the first half they looked like they were running on ice, I lost track on how many times they slipped away and lost the ball. Oh well, we are in a group of champions and this was going to be the most difficult one.
Poor Sami, it was so sad to see him hurt.
On the bright sight: Iker made some magical saves, Modric played a fantastic game and there are more home games left than away ones!
