The Calm Before The (Big Ass) Storm

28 Oct

The wind is starting to pick up in New York so we’re hunkering down and preparing for Hurricane Sandy. Just wanted to take a minute to check in with everyone. To all the watishistas in the path of this monster storm, please stay safe and keep us up to date on how you are. Depending on how bad this is and if we lose power, I may be out of touch for a few days. I’ve pre-stocked the blog with Daily Drools and Maisougio will keep things going as she’s (thankfully) out of harm’s way.

Take care everyone!

Hey! That’s me up there! Have no idea why I’m anonymous!

This one feels different from Irene, doesn’t it? It feels *wrong* somehow. I hope it’s not as bad as they’re predicting. The problem is it’s going to sit right on top of us for over 36 hours. A typical hurricane hits for 6-8 hours. We’ve got a hurricane/n’oreaster combo.Ugh. Gonna be scary either way. Damn it.

Stay safe girls! I’ve been reading about Sandy, and tbh it sounds scary. *hugs*

Good Luck! I am just hoping it doesn’t come north! You might want to grab your floaties, just in case!

Be safe! Apparently sandy (why not sandra?) is not supposed to hit until TOMORROW night. It hasn’t even rained yet and I feel like I’ve been in a massive storm…thanks new york?

We’re supposed to get a bunch of rain early tomorrow morning and then more in the evening. Wind is supposed to be a major issue.

It’s pouring here in Virginia as well as being very windy and cold. On the plus side my college cancelled classes tomorrow.

Mother Earth is retaliating! Sandy, earthquake–>tsunami all in a week. Now we just need a volcano to blow…
We’ll be thinking of all our friends to the north. Stay safe and take advantage of the opportunity to be closer to the ones you love for an extended period of time.
Being in Florida, we are used to these things. So many people here tend to ride these things out. The one time we ever evacuated for a hurricane, we sat in traffic for two hours and went 5 miles. We had three tiny kids and two greyhounds with us and we finally turned around, went home, and just hung out. Storm went through, we lost power for a day or so and that was that.
We got a slight brush from Sandy the other day, (wind and a little rain). It’s really quite an impressive storm, size-wise, but it would be helpful if the media would tone down the mild hysteria…
Hang in there Everyone! charge your cell phones and laptops while you can! it may help you to print a fotito of your favorite baller boy, in case the power does go out…

    • HermosaChica October 29, 2012 at 1:42 pm #

Haha! I was JUST considering printing out some ‘baller photos but so far it’s not hideously bad in RI (well to me it isn’t, considering I don’t have much experience with this type of weather so I have nothing to compare it to).

Oh well, let’s hope for the best! I’m hoping this weather won’t have worse aftermath than a Sexio trip to the mall would..

Be safe, everyone! I’m up in New England. It’s raining and it’s starting to get windy, but isn’t too bad yet. We’ll see what happens…

In the south western part of Ontario, it’s currently crazy windy and raining but it’s supposed to be far worse tonight and tomorrow, so we are preparing for power outages and stocking up on food and water. Hopefully, it won’t be that bad.

    Best of luck to everyone.

It’s due to make landfall in NJ in about an hour and a half. Winds are starting to get pretty gusty here and rain is lashing. There’s already been a massive crane collapse and the pictures from the shore are nuts. Lots of flooding in low lying areas is pretty intense already and the storm hasn’t even made landfall. I’m guessing the next 24-36 hours are going to be very scary. 😦 Stay safe all.

      • Natalie October 29, 2012 at 4:13 pm #

Good luck!!! Hope it will pass in no time

      • kristine October 29, 2012 at 4:44 pm #

        This wind is terrifying!

        • headbandsandheartbreak October 29, 2012 at 4:47 pm #

Yeah, it’s picking up here as well and it’s supposed to be much worse. Some arsehole is on the news who drove over an hour from Princeton to watch the waves in Spring Lake, which is evacuated. Moron. Even the newscaster was like “What the fuck is WRONG with you?!”

          • kristine October 29, 2012 at 5:06 pm #

People are so dumb! We have a giant tree up the street leaning and swaying…any minute now it’s gonna take out the power lines.
            Hope you stay safe ladies!

Was quite surprised when they said it would reach New York. Never heard of an Atlantic hurricane making it so far north.
Though I was born and raised in the Caribbean (Shout out to all my fellow Arubans! … Anyone? … Anyone?? D:), I only ever experienced a hurricane once: Hurricane Luis in 1995. Was on holiday visiting relatives in St Maarten. Since they lived in an old hut we had to seek shelter at the local church. Scariest experience of my life!
Luckily Aruba lies just outside the hurricane belt, so usually when one passed through the Caribbean we’d get a bit of rain, maybe some wind, at the most.
    Be safe, guys!

(And if things get tough and you need a happy thought, just remember: 5-0 Real Madrid v Mallorca! Brace for Pipa and Ronaldo, followed by an Özil assist! :D)

Ooh Sandy just broke the all-time record for lowest pressure storm….that’s just gonna strengthen it more….stay safe you guys! *hugs*
