The Return Of The Prodigal Lozil, Two Trainings, Sami Interview, Ikerliciousness And More

19 Nov

Hallelujah! My conference is over and I’m back! Lordy, how I have missed all of you and this blog. I almost wept the first time I could watch footy again without a deadline looming over me. Special thanks to my beloved other half Maisougio who has been a total rock star holding down the fort for the last month while I’ve been in the middle of work, a hurricane and life drama. I promise a whopping big bits & bobs post (including the ongoing Sergzil social media love fest) sometime soon but first, the boys have been training for the past two days, so let’s peep that.

Shigs is going to totes freak out when she sees Sami & Kaka being so friendly. But what’s the poor guy supposed to do when Mesut & Sergio are attached at the hip and trolling Tumblr to send photo manips to each other? Sami, just don’t go there. I’m sure Pipita has some room in his harem if you need some man love. Kaka is not the answer.

Mou is keeping a watchful eye on his boys, as ever. The mothership had a piece today about him being (as of Wednesday) the youngest coach to helm 100 Champions League games. It’s a good read with all his stats and CL background. They also posted this great shot of him. Love it!

The mothership also had excerpts from a BWIN interview with the luscious Mr. Sami Khedira about the upcoming Manchester City game.

Khedira: “We have a good chance of winning in Manchester if we impose our attacking strength”

“The quality of this team is incredibly high and I benefit from it as well”, the German midfielder added

Real Madrid will face Manchester City in the fifth match of the Champions League group stage and Sami Khedira explained the key to beating the English team in an interview for the Bwin website: “Dortmund showed how you can compete there: playing a tight game, competing for every ball and trying to impose your style of play, so I think we have a good chance. But we definitely have to concentrate on trying to play our own way there, not letting ourselves to be influenced by the opponent’s style but instead imposing our strength in attack. That way I think we will have a good chance of winning and turning the match in our favour”.

The forwards Dzeko, Agüero, Tévez and Ballotelli are the English team’s main attacking threats, and the Madrid midfielder is aware of how dangerous they are, whoever plays: “I think each one of these players has too much quality for us to concentrate on just one of them. They will not all play at once. That is very unlikely, but each of these players has an enormous quality and can decide a match. That is why all four are excellent players and it does not matter which ones play, we will have to be very alert to try to control them. They are amongst the best in the world”.

The Whites have a lot of options within the squad and some of the best players in the world. As Khedira said, “I would not single out any one player in particular. I just think that the quality of our team is incredibly high. And I benefit from that as well. It did not surprise me; I knew that anyone who plays for Madrid or is signed by Madrid will be of very high quality. We all benefit from it. That is why I do not think that picking out any particular player helps anyone because the team has such a high level in general”.

The German midfielder, who opened his scoring account for the season with a goal against Athletic de Bilbao on Saturday, talked about his development as a player and his plans to carry on improving: “It is difficult, I feel like I am a better player than in previous seasons but I also think that as a footballer you should never say: now I am at my best age. I think you can always keep improving, in every aspect, although I do think that I am at a very good level. But there is always room for improvement”.

To conclude, Khedira talked about the possible candidates to win the Champions League this season: “I think that like every year there is a group of favourites and it would not be fair to any of them to name a particular team. There are a lot of teams who have had the chance to win this trophy in recent years, just like this season. It will be every interesting because this season there are a lot of teams who have set winning the Champions League as their objective”.

The thumb is up and all is right in the world.

Today preparation for the Champions League continued and guess what? Sami & Mesut were reunited!

I don’t think it’s possible to keep these two apart for any great length of time. They will always be the other’s number one boo. Sergio ain’t giving up though.

SR: “Hey you guys, I’m TOTALLY fine with a threesome.”  SK: “Erm…”  MO: “Tee hee!”

Iker is one of 5 goalkeepers nominated for the FIFA World XI FIFPro for 2012. Over 45,000 football players world wide vote for the honor. Iker has won the award the last 4 years. His opponents this year are Gianluigi Buffon, Petr Cech, Joe Hart and Manuel Neuer. Here’s a little more Iker courtesy of Adidas.

And that’s all for right now! I hope to be getting up to speed again soon. I’m just back to the office today, my birthday is tomorrow and Thursday is Thanksgiving. Still so freaking busy! But I’m so incredibly glad to be back. I missed this place so much!

Great to have you back, on form, Loz. Been watching your progress in PA and cheering you on from afar. And have a happy birthday!
What language do you reckon Serhio and Mesut speak to each other with? And let’s not just say ‘the language of love” cuz we know that already… would it be Spanglo-Germanic? Or do they have a secret language of grunts and snarls and purring? Just wondering…

watching on Twitter, I meant to say. I didn’t go to PA, too.

Sergio said in a recent interview that they usually speak English to each other but it was funny because neither of them speaks very good English. 🙂

just for my own idle curiosity, i wish we could get a definitive list of whom on RM speaks english (or, maybe, a list of who doesn’t?). i know xabi and arbeloa and sami do, as well as mou and essien and CR7 and kaka. probably modric, too, as he played in england, right? marcelo seems to write in english on instagram, but i don’t know if he speaks it (i searched for interviews of him speaking english and couldn’t find any).

note: i don’t count iker and sergio’s spanglish as being fluent in english! :p

Cristiano’s accent when he speaks English slays me. I love it. And I think you’re right that Modric speaks it, too; I’m pretty sure I’ve heard him give English interviews.

I nominate myself to tutor Iker and Sergio…

          • black widow November 19, 2012 at 8:25 pm #

he played for spurs for 4 years, so i’m sure he must have picked up some english? (then again, mesut’s been with us for what, 2 years now? and his spanish isn’t exactly coming along, hahaha!)

ah, wait, i found an interview: i’d say he’s fluent along the lines of xabi and mou, he’s pretty good.

i want more of pepe reina teaching iker english!
