Preparing For Ajax

3 Dec

2What is that look that Sami is giving Mesut? Why is Ozi staring at his feet? Did Mesut make a jealous remark after this weekend’s assgrab and Sami is like “Beyotch, have you read your own Facebook? You’re always googly eyed over Sergio!” True bromance never runs smooth. ::sigh:: Sami spent some time hanging with Karim and lord knows, that boy needs some companionship.64313115512714810911
It’s really nice to see Essien’s megawatt smile back, isn’t it? Denis and José Rodríguez were also in on the training.

Arbeloa is suspended for this match (and trained in the gym) while Pipita, Marcelo and Albiol are all still injured.

Luka Modric was chosen to represent the team at the presser today. Take it away, Lady Edith!

Modric: “Mourinho has a long contract and we hope he stays here for a long time”
by Alberto Navarro

“If we play with the same passion we showed against Atlético, we will be the favourites to win the Champions League”, the Croatian midfielder said

Rueda_de_prensa_de_Modric (5)Luca Modric appeared in the Ciudad Real Madrid press room after José Mourinho had spoken. The Madrid midfielder praised his coach: “He has a long contract with Real Madrid and I hope he stays here for a long time. I agree with what he said. If we play like we did against Atlético then we are the favourites to win the Champions League. That is the way to go and if we carry on like and with the passion we showed in the last match then we are the favourites”.

Rueda_de_prensa_de_Modric (1)Rueda_de_prensa_de_ModricThe Croatian international analysed Ajax and singled out one of the opposition players: “They are a very strong team and have a chance of qualifying for the Europa League tomorrow. I played against them twice with Dinamo Zagreb, and they are a very good team. Eriksen is a great player with a lot of talent”.

Rueda_de_prensa_de_Modric (2)Rueda_de_prensa_de_Modric (6)Modric praised the Santiago Bernabéu and the Spanish League: “It is a fantastic stadium. It is the best I have played in and it is amazing to go onto the pitch and play in front of 80,000 people. I enjoy every moment playing in the League; I like it a lot. It is very hard, especially when you play away from home, because all the teams have very good players who are technically strong. It is true that you can face problems if you do not have the right attitude”.

Rueda_de_prensa_de_Modric (3)Rueda_de_prensa_de_Modric (4)Regarding his own place in the team and the position on the pitch he feels most comfortable in, he said: “I am adapting well. When I arrived I said that whatever position I was asked to play in, I would try to do it the best I could and play to my full ability, but my favourite position, where I am most comfortable and play the best, is in the centre of the pitch along with Xabi or Khedira. Real Madrid is the best team in the world and expectations are very high. Mourinho wants to play the way I did at Tottenham, but faster and more aggressively. I am progressing well and now I understand what the coach wants from me”.

Rueda_de_prensa_de_Modric (7)As for his physical condition and the fact he could not do a normal preseason, he revealed that “not being able to do a normal preseason was obviously a big problem. I was out for almost two months and it is difficult when you come to such an important club. Everything is going well and I just need to get to know the players better on the pitch and find out what they like and what they do not like”.

Mou did his customary presser as well. He deflected talk of leaving for PSG, explained what he felt the team was lacking right now and talked of the whistles at the match on Saturday. (Did anyone else notice that when he took the pitch, while there were whistles, there were also people standing and clapping? I’d love to hear a report from watishista Christine who was at the game as to the pre-match atmosphere.)

Mourinho: “My future is that tomorrow I’ll have my 101st Champions League match”
by Alberto Navarro

“Qualifying from this group is a success because we knew that a big team and title contender would be going out”, said the Whites’ coach

Rueda_de_prensa_de_Mourinho (4)José Mourinho appeared in the press room at Real Madrid’s Football City the day before the match against Ajax. The Whites’ coach, who revealed that “Adán, Nacho, Ronaldo, Benzema, Khedira and Coentrão will play”, spoke about his future at the club and his relationship with club president Florentino Pérez: “I do my job every day. My future is that tomorrow I’ll have my 101st Champions League match and UEFA will confirm that. Neither I nor I think the president will say a word about it. I have nothing to say about what we talked about. My relationship with him is very good and I will not be giving any substance to this situation. You have no story”.

Rueda_de_prensa_de_MourinhoThe Portuguese analysed his team’s last match in the Champions League’s toughest group: “Qualifying from this group is a success because we knew that a big team and title contender would be going out. The other two are through and that should be seen as a success because there was a big risk of being knocked out. We have played demanding matches and that’s good because we play the most important matches of the match days, but that competitiveness means that you accumulate cards and means that players are on the verge of a suspension while other teams can handle these situations better and do, without being punished, what we did three years ago against Ajax. We are already qualified and we can go out to win the match and our players will play without any pressure. Denis, José Rodríguez and Morata might have the chance to come on from the bench and Nacho will make his Champions League debut. We want to win because we are not here to give anything away and we have to play at our best”.

Rueda_de_prensa_de_Mourinho (7)The Real Madrid coach revealed the names of some of the players that will start against Ajax and those of others that will be rested, either because of the coach’s decision or due to suspension: “Adán, Nacho, Cristiano Ronaldo, Benzema, Khedira and Coentrão will play. Sergio Ramos and Xabi Alonso will not play because they have two cards and I cannot risk them because I want them available for the round of 16 first leg. Arbeloa is suspended and cannot play.”

Rueda_de_prensa_de_Mourinho (8)When asked what the team are lacking he said: “We need to play every match with the same level of concentration and project our personality and ambition because they all mean as much as each other to me. We have to play to the best of our ability and with the aim of winning but sometimes we come across difficulties created by our opponents and how well they play like against Betis. I like emotional continuity. The footballing side is separate because we have good players, with a well defined and constructed style of play, which got us where it got us last season has taken us to two Champions League semi-finals. The emotional side of things is important and the injuries also do not help because we have lost important players following international breaks. We want to finish the year in the best way possible and then take advantage of the Christmas period to train well and hope that Marcelo, Higuaín and Albiol make their return as soon as possible”.

Rueda_de_prensa_de_Mourinho (6)When asked for the reason that he went out on to the pitch at the Bernabéu about half an hour before the derby against Atletico he was clear: “I do not notice anything because I was watching Casillas and the other goalkeepers warming up with Silvino. I went out early because I was expecting lots of whistles and some sort of animosity towards me and I preferred that it happened before the match and was addressed personally towards me so that during the match they would support the team and have positive feelings and help their players and their team”.

Rueda_de_prensa_de_Mourinho (5)Mourinho also referred to rumours that put him at PSG next season: “About PSG I will say that one of my assistants will go to watch the match tomorrow because they are a potential opponent. They’re playing against Porto and both of them could be drawn against us. That’s the only thing that I am bothered about in Paris”. When questioned about his relationship with the Atletico coach he said: “I have a very nice, polite and correct relationship with Simeone and Gil Marín at Atletico. Before the match I was talking to Simeone in the tunnel. We are rivals from the same city, but I do not have any problems with anybody from that team”.

Rueda_de_prensa_de_Mourinho (1)Another issue that the Whites’ coach was asked about was Ferguson’s words of praise about his work on the Real Madrid bench: “That is what friends are like, they always speak nicely about each other. Friendship is like that, always being there for your friends. Some people think that there is room for betrayal in friendship and others have a deep respect. His succession is a long way off and it will be ten years away because he is stronger every year. What would he want to retire for?”

Rueda_de_prensa_de_Mourinho (2)As for why his team is conceding more goals in European competition than in the league he was blunt: “The difference is in the quality of the opponents. Manchester City are outrageously powerful and have many dangerous players and Dortmund are one of the best teams in Europe”. Finally, about whether Cristiano Ronaldo is happy at Real Madrid and about his selection as the best Ibero-American player he said: “It’s a surprise for him to be chosen as the best Ibero-American player. I think it’s a big surprise, but a good one. Do you not want to know who’s playing tomorrow? That’s more interesting than knowing if Cristiano is happy or is going to stay”.

Ah Mou, cheeky as ever! The following players were called up for tomorrow’s match:

Goalkeepers: Adán and Jesús.
Defenders: Varane, Pepe, Coentrão, Carvalho and Nacho.
Midfielders: Khedira, Kaká, Özil, Modric, Callejón, Di María, Cheryshev and José Rodríguez.
Forwards: Cristiano Ronaldo, Benzema and Morata

As expected Iker, Sergio, Xabi & Di Maria are being rested. Both Sergio & Xabi are probably being left out because they have already accumulated 2 yellow cards.

This is one of the few matches of Real I can watch on my big screen television. So now that I can see all our fine boys in all their glory instead of on some shitty stream there’s no Sese, Iker, Arbie or Xabi? You better use your rest wisely boys …
Good thing this is Team Pretty and there’s plenty of handsome to make up for it.

Aw damn. Now Benz’s has been demoted to the Fallback Guy? Benzema has officially been friend-without-benefit-zoned, people. Let’s hope the January transfer window brings in someone who has an appreciative taste for French cuisine.

Anyone else think our boys look more just-rolled-out-of-bed-and-went-to-practice than usual? Oh, boys…

Nice for Adan to get some minutes. He’s not crowned and canonized like Iker, but I rather like him.

    • black widow December 3, 2012 at 11:42 pm #

adan is a worthy successor and i’m pleased to see him getting minutes. it’d be nice if jesus could get a few, too.

on a totally different note, i am ITCHING to take a pair of scissors to modric’s hair!

If anyone desperately needs a makeover, its Modric. Just looking at him makes me want to do something with his hair. I don’t know how the rest of his teammates haven’t had an intervention yet. Guess they don’t know him well enough to say dude just fix your hair please.

Well, none of ’em looked like they’d picked up a comb in the pics from that training session, so maybe they were thinking they shouldn’t throw stones? Hehehe. But, yeah, agreeing with y’all on the need for Modric to change his look.
