Champions League Catch Up: Man City & Ajax

The boys went into the Ajax match knowing that their spot in the last 16 was already sealed, so all that was left was to put on a show for the Bernabeu crowd and that they did with four lovely goals. I didn’t get a chance to recap the Man City match, which allowed the team to advance to the next round, so I’m compiling goals & thangs from that match & the Ajax one into one big ol’ post.

San Iker had a bit of an early workout as soon as the whistle was blown, thankfully we were putting in more work than Man City because the danger was cleared and Benz popped up & scored the opener…our only goal. The match was ten minutes in & Benz’s goal was enough to say ‘Hola, Round of 16!’ & ‘Adios, Man City!’

Scoring goals & having a bum like that, is a winning combination!

In the 73rd minute, Arbeloa brought Aguero down, in the box, and Man City was awarded a penalty. Arbeloa had already received a yellow card, earlier in the game, received his 2nd with this mishap, and was sent off. Poor Iker, there was just no saving that shot from Aguero.

As we know from the whole group stage experience, we don’t always get the win, but we do what needs to be done in order to move forward & that’s what the boys did in Manchester.

Now it’s time to recap the Ajax match!

Look at Crissy’s scar! 😦

I’m always happy when our B team get’s a chance to make it off the bench, which they got to do for the Ajax match. Adan, Nacho, Carvalho, Kaka, & Varane got a rare start.

Adan, honey……Salmon & Carrot don’t go. VAMOOOOSSSS JODERRRRRR!!!

Benz is hot……even with a Mangina.

In the 13th minute, our headband faithful, Modric, passed to (& possibly made a pass at) our spanx wearing croissant,  who controlled the ball in front of Ajax’s goal, kept his cool under pressure, and then passed to Crissy for a wonderful strike & GOALLLLL! Our first beauty of the match.

Poor Benzy needs a boy toy, he can’t keep living for goal assist lurve, who knows when it’ll come around again? *Sigh*

Headband faithful Modric got an assist of his own in the 28th minute, when he served Callejon with the perfect pass, straight over an Ajax defender. Callejon put a little Riverdance flick on the ball & we had our second beauty.

Four minutes into the 2nd half, it was Kaka time! No, there was no potty training going on, it was time for a Lord loving, Kaka goal! You know when you witness a Criska goal, you’re in for some special celebration pics…..

I’d love for the Criska Lurve theme song to be something romantic, but when I look at the picture below, all I can hear is…

Real Madrid's Kakais embraced by his teammate Ronaldo during their Champions League Group D soccer match against Ajax Amsterdam at Santiago Bernabeu stadium in Madrid

“I love you, you love me. We’re a happy family. With a great big hug & a kiss from me to you. Won’t you say you love me too?”

Ten minutes later, Boerrigter got lucky & scored a goal for his side. I say he was lucky because if Adan DIDN’T COME OUT SO FAR, we probably would’ve maintained a clean sheet. No matter though, I’m not mad, we never keep them anyway! 😉

Our final two changes came in the 72nd & 80th minute, when Jose Rodriguez came on for Kaka & Morata came on for Benz.

With just two minutes to spare, our final goal of the night came in the 88th minute by way of Callejon with a bebe Morata assist! A brace for the man with the tallest hair! WOOT WOOT!

The match against Ajax was also Kay Murray’s last match with RMTV. She’s handing the microphone over to Rhiannon Jones. She hasn’t announced yet what she’s moving on to, but I know she’ll be missed.

Oh, Adan. I love to see him get some minutes because he’s oddly fun to watch in goal. He’s not got Iker’s skill and experience (evident when he came so friggin’ far off his line and Ajax scored), but most of the time he’s got nerves of steel. And when he does mess up or get rattled, lord, does he get pissed. The contrast is fun. As for those ugly, ugly “carrot” base layers, both he and Iker have them, and they clash sooooo badly. I don’t get it.

What was the deal with the captains armband when Kaka went off? He gave to Carvalho who then gave it to Pepe who then tried to give it Adan who gave it back, then the camera shot to Mou wagging his finger. So Pepe captained the rest of the match, which I thought was brilliant 🙂

Captains on RM go by length of time with the club. There was some confusion at first as to who should have it next. It was supposed to go to Pepe and Mou was just making sure the right person had it.

Oh, the rapture on Kaka’s face during the CrisKa goal celebration. Oh-oh…The Rapture. Sorry, Shigs!
