Saturday Training, Presser & Concentracion

15 Dec

Sorry I’ve been absent all day. I’ve got one helluva a cold and I feel wretched. I’ve been asleep all day trying to keep it from getting worse. But got up to get something to eat so I might as well update the blog, right? PRIORITIES! 🙂 That said, it’s going to be a drive by so I can get back to sleep.

Mou got some support from the powers that be as FloPleezy made these comments while at the RM Insignia ceremony: “We have the best manager in the world, who demands the highest standards from his team. He has been on the receiving end of unfair criticism and damaging comments and some have affected his dignity as a person. Mourinho has my recognition, my confidence in his work and my affection”

Mou did his presser today but refused to comment on what FloPeezy had to say and he also refused to talk about leaving or the Ballon d’Or.

Mourinho: “We’ve managed to maintain regularity in our home games with consistent positive results”
by Diego Jabalquinto

“I expect Espanyol to defend deep and try to control us with quick counterattacks; I don’t think it will be an easy game”, Real’s coach said

Rueda_de_prensa_de_Mourinho (8)Real Madrid faced off against Espanyol tomorrow in the last match of the year in the Santiago Berbabéu and José Mourinho spoke at a pre-game press conference under the watchful eye of front-row attendees Aitor Karanka, Silvino Louro, Luis Campos and Rui Faria: “Real Madrid will start as we always do at home. With fluctuations in performance and results we’ve managed to maintain regularity in our home games with consistent positive results. We’ve drawn once the Liga this season and again in the Champions League. We go in strong in order to win, to control, to score and sometimes to react with the rival scores first and we have to make a comeback. The squad has always found this balance in the game when playing at home and has always had the support, sometimes stronger than others, of their fans. I think we’re going to win, with the greatest of respect for Espanyol and Aguirre, who has a history of winning in this stadium, but we’re going to try to win. We won at home against Atlétcio, away against Valladolid, and we’ll try for the third win in a row and end the year with four straight Liga victories, which is the best we can do until the end of the year”.

Don't look so excited, Rui!

Aguirre has taken the helm of Espanyol to turn the side around, and Mourinho spoke about the rival coach: “Espanyol has a coach that I really like and up until a few weeks ago they had another coach that I really liked as well. I like their team, their hard work, and I think that Aguirre, with his experience and knowledge about this Liga, knows better than anyone how to change Espanyol’s results. To take advantage of Mauricio’s solid work and give it his personal touch. I think that the two of them together can make a side that from now on is going to start racking up points. I hope not tomorrow, and I hope we have enough quality to win the match. “I expect Espanyol to defend deep and try to control us with quick counterattacks. I don’t think it will be an easy game”.

Rueda_de_prensa_de_Mourinho (1)“The game against Malaga isn’t harder than tomorrow’s match. Each match in the competition is equally demanding. If a player is ready to play he’ll be there, as long as nothing bad happens today in the training session. The player is ready to play and if he’s there to play he’ll play”, he said about the possibility that Coentrão starts and explained the chances of Benzema playing tomorrow: “I don’t think he’ll be fit to play tomorrow. I think. For me, a player who leaves a match injured shouldn’t be ready to play a few days later. It happens sometimes. Sometimes players get carried off the pitch or are stretchered off and two days later they’re fully fit to play. But in my thinking a player only leaves the pitch when he can’t carry on, and when you can’t carry on you’re not ready to play the next day or the next match. But we’ve got so many problems up front without Higuaín that I would like it if Karim could be an option tomorrow”.

Rueda_de_prensa_de_Mourinho (7)About the side that faces off against Espanyol tomorrow, Mourinho said: “We’re not in a position to make a lot of changes, either. I also don’t think that many changes necessarily mean better results. If it always worked like that I wouldn’t hesitate to make them. Although I’m not an expert in post-loses because I haven’t lost many times in my life, I don’t think that so many changes and so much revolution is good. It’s better to maintain some consistency and that dynamic that you have and that you obviously have to try to improve”. Morata is one of the options that Mourinho has up front and he commented on the player’s possible place in the starting eleven: “We’ll see. I want to see how everyone is. But I realized after the match in Vigo that I should have had Morata on the bench. Despite his inexperience he’s a player with enthusiasm, motivation and potential and only fools don’t change when they think they’ve made a bad decision. And tomorrow Morata will be a possibility with or without Karim”.

Rueda_de_prensa_de_Mourinho (3)“I’ve said before that I think a coach shouldn’t discuss comments from his president. They shouldn’t be ignored; to the contrary, I don’t ignore them. He should analyze, draw conclusions but shouldn’t make any kind of public comment. The reaction that I had after analyzing the statements has already been talked about with the person I had to talk to and that’s the president. We already spoke about it this morning and I don’t think there’s anything more to discuss”, the coach said about the words of Florentino Pérez at the insignia presentation ceremony.

Rueda_de_prensa_de_Mourinho (2)Responding to a question from a French reporter Mourinho said “It’s not true. I can only have a signed contract with one team. I have a contract signed with Real Madrid. I’ve already answered you. The Ballon d’Or doesn’t interest me”. Regarding comments made by Celta coach Paco Herrera Mourinho replied: “I won’t discuss what Paco Herrera said. I talk to Paco when I have to. I don’t discuss his comments”.

Rueda_de_prensa_de_Mourinho (4)About the possible improvements in Real’s physical and mental aspects, Mourinho said: “The physical doesn’t exist nor does the mental or the tactical or the technical either. Football is the sum of many things. Man is the sum of many things. The players are men and so it’s a matter of everything”. When asked why the squad isn’t performing as well as last year he replied: “I’m not going to comment, I’ll keep in to myself like you all ask me and you always criticize me when I have some type of public comment that you shouldn’t think I should make. So if you criticize me for making some type of comment after a game you can’t ask me to make any kind of similar assessment now”.

Rueda_de_prensa_de_MourinhoIn closing, the coach noted the important things to keep in mind to feel optimistic about the team: “The team that has these results, which for me aren’t good enough, is the same team that did what we did last year. Again, in my opinion the results are not satisfactory, I’m not interested in the opinion of others, and I don’t need outside pressure because I can put pressure on myself. But the people who are getting these unsatisfactory results are the same people that formed the best side in Europe last year. And that’s reason enough to be optimistic without forgetting that the results aren’t good enough and I’m the first one to demand a lot from myself and those who work with me. Sometimes you criticize me for publically expressing this demand on those who work for me. If I was the head of your publication and I was losing sales I’d also be critical with myself and others. It’s a matter of everyone’s individual personality. This is how I am and I don’t feel good when my performance and that of my team isn’t enough. I’m the first to be critical and demanding without expecting that pressure to come from elsewhere”.

The following players were called up for the match:

Goalkeepers: Casillas, Adán and Jesús.
Defenders: Ramos, Pepe, Carvalho, Arbeloa, Coentrão and Nacho.
Midfielders: Xabi Alonso, Khedira, Özil, Essien, Modric, Callejón, Di María and Kaká.
Forwards: Cristiano Ronaldo, Benzema and Morata.

The boys are already off the the Mirasierra to rest up before the last home match before the holidays.

82Concentraciýn37465Here’s a little video about the 65th birthday of the Santiago Bernabeu which was yesterday. It’s pretty cool to see the history, isn’t it?

And that’s me back to bed now. Hopefully, I’ll feel up to watching the match tomorrow. Bah humbug!

kaka and CR7 look like ninja smurfs in that top photo. adorable. 🙂

it’s good perez publicly backed mou. that needed to happen, to quell some of these ridiculous rumours. and what mou said is right, too … this is the same team, and same manager, who won the league several months ago. it’s amazing how people will throw their support behind you when you’re doing well and then be the first to call for your head when you hit a rough patch.

anyway, here’s hoping we get a victory today. (i was so hoping atletico would lose yesterday, for a nice little christmas present, but no such luck!)

aaaaand that’s what i get for only half paying attention to something: it was athletic club that played yesterday, not atletico madrid, so the result was kinda redundant.

that said, today is atletico vs barca. i have a question for madridistas: would you rather see atletico win, which would mean our gap with them would be bigger, but our point gap with barca would be smaller, or would you rather see atletico lose, which would mean we could theoretically pull into second place if we won today, but our point gap with barca would be bigger?

i’m overthinking things, and i suck at math. 😀

or, you know, we could concede a goal and tie at the very last minute and completely fuck it up. 😦
