5-3: Audience success in the third annual ‘Partido x la Ilusión’

Fans packed into the Palacio de Deportes to enjoy the artists, athletes and ex-players who came out to support Iker Casillas’s event

The Palacio de los Deportes enjoyed the third annual Partido x la Ilusion—sponsored by the Iker Casillas Foundation and in collaboration with the RealMadrid Foundation—in style. Fans packed into the sold-out Comunidad de Madrid pavilion to raise funds to promote the employment of young people at risk of exclusion. The Palacio de los Deportes vibrated with a series of pre-game concerts, followed by a match full of star athletes, ex-players and artists that entertained the full house in an event that was also attended by Real Madrid president Florentino Perez.

During the half fans were also entertained by a dance performance by the Spanish representatives for a cheerleading competition that will be held in Orlando, and Florentino Fernandez and Santiago Segura battled it out in a race that Segura won.Partido_x_la_ilusiýn (6)Partido_x_la_ilusiýn (20)Partido_x_la_ilusiýn (16)The Blue team came alive during the second half of the game with a goal by Alvaro Benito, and the Hombre de Negro (from the TV program El Hormiguero) evened out the score and celebrated his goal with one of his classic experiments. Álvaro Benito put the Blue team on top with a goal that snuck by Iker Casillas, but a three-goal streak by the White team in the last moments of the game made them the clear winners. De la Red scored two of those goals and Adrian Rodriguez sentenced the game with the third.

De la Red: “People had a good time, they wanted to see goals and they really enjoyed it; the objective was met”
by Diego Jabalquinto

“For me it was a pleasure. We were able to fill the Palacio and I hope we can do so next year too,” said Alberto Contador

Ruben de la Red was one of the former Real Madrid footballers who participated in this year’s Partido x la Ilusion. The current academy coach was grateful to be at the event: “I think the objective was met. People had a good time, they wanted to see goals, they really enjoyed it, and we were able to fill the Palacio. There were a lot of people and they were very enthusiastic. We all had fun. I want to thank Iker for having me participate in this great initiative and for the good time that we had.”

Partido_x_la_ilusiýn (26)Alvaro Benito scored two goals in this charitable match. The Pignoise vocalist appreciated the good time that he had on the field: “Whenever Casillas calls us, we come. Plus, since I hardly ever play football anymore, I love everything about chasing the ball, and especially if it is for a good cause. I have a good relationship with Iker and whenever he needs me I will be here.”

Guti was also present at the Partido x la Ilusion, and he stressed the importance of ideas like it: “Whenever Iker has called me, I have been there. This is a really great initiative and the truth is that it does some very important work.” The cyclist Alberto Contador also spoke with the press after the match: “These types of events are really gratifying, they don’t require a lot of effort on our part yet on the other hand they mean a lot for the people who don’t have everything that they would like. For me it was a pleasure. We were able to fill the Palacio and I hope we can do so next year, too.”
