Karim Gets A Captive Audience, Mesut Speaks, Bits & Bobs

29 Jan

We were today gifted with 10 minutes of translated presser (translation kicks in at about 30 seconds or so). I particularly enjoy how annoyed Karim gets with the headphones in the beginning. I know they’re not Beats, hon, but try to cope. Especially when you have a whole room of people hanging on your every utterance, Mr. Forever Alone.

Looking extremely foxy, Mr. Benzema

Looking extremely foxy, Mr. Benzema

Benzema: “We’re ready and we aim to play well, score and win”
by Alberto Navarr
“I think that right now the Clásico is the best match in the world” , said the White’s forward ahead of the match against Barcelo

Benzema_en_rueda_de_prensa (7)Karim Benzema spoke before the press at the Ciudad Real Madrid the day before the first leg of the Copa del Rey semifinals. The Real forward analyzed the clash against Barcelona, the first Clásico in 2013: “A Real Madrid-Barcelona is the best match in the world. We’re two amazing teams. It’s always a difficult game and the fans are ready to see a good game. The Clásicos are always different matches, but tomorrow we aim to score goals and win. Although we know that it’s a two-game round, we’re playing at home tomorrow and we want to play well and win. We played really well against them in the second round of the Supercopa and we hope for another victory. We’re ready for the match”.

Benzema_en_rueda_de_prensa (3)The French forward also spoke about the second leg in Camp Nou. “When we play in Barcelona we play well. We don’t lose many matches there. We’re better each year and I don’t think that Barcelona is the favorite to win. It’s a great team, but we are as well. We know that it’s going to be difficult but I hope we win. We’re a great squad and we want to stay that way”.

Benzema_en_rueda_de_prensa (6)When asked about the relationship between the team and coach José Mourinho Benzema was clear: “We’re very united and we don’t have any problem with the coach. I don’t know why they say that”. Regarding Real’s injured players, Benzema said: “It would be better if everyone was available, but we’re a good group and a solid squad that’s going to try to win tomorrow”.

Benzema_en_rueda_de_prensa (4)In terms of the competition with Higuaín, the Real forward replied: “It’s good for everyone and above all for the club. I want to play more, that’s normal. I don’t know any player who likes to sit on the bench. He also wants to play more, but the decision comes down to the coach and I’ll have to work to play more”.

Benzema_en_rueda_de_prensa (1)The French international praised Özil and Cristiano Ronaldo, two players that have kicked off the year in top form. “He’s a great player. He’s got a lot of skill, he’s really good technically and it’s important for us that he’s here. I’m really happy with him”, said Benzema about the German midfielder. About the Portuguese forward, Benzema commented: “For us he’s the best player in the world. It’s good that he plays for Real Madrid”.

Benzema_en_rueda_de_prensa (5)In terms of the goalkeeper that will defend Real’s goal tomorrow and the signing of Diego López, Benzema said: “He’s a good goalkeeper, but the decision of who plays tomorrow is the coach’s.” To conclude, when asked about his teammate Marcelo: “It’s hard for get back onto the team because he’s been out for three months without playing. He’s ready to play more minutes and its good that he’s training”.

Benzema_en_rueda_de_prensaHmmm, that last shot isn’t terribly flattering, is it? I’m going with bad moment/angle. He posted this kinda hilarious banner on Facebook today with he and Messi  winking and throwing finger guns at each other: “Heeeeeeeeeey!” ::headdesk::

536891_405923032832482_1628408740_nEveryone chatted with the mothership today! Mesut gave a thumbs up-riffic interview…

ýzil (2)

To the left…

Özil: “Our aim is to beat Barcelona and dedicate it to our fans”

“We are in good form and playing at home; I am very grateful to play for a club as big as Real Madrid” he added

The Santiago Bernabéu will be the stage for the first leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final between Madrid and Barcelona, a match where both teams will be looking to progress to the final of the competition. Özil analysed this first match for the Bwin website and said: “Naturally we know Barcelona has a very strong team, with very good players, but we are concentrating on ourselves. We are in good form and now we will play Barcelona at home. Our aim is to win the match and dedicate it to our fans. We want to get through to the final; that is clear.”

The excitement of the last rounds of the Copa del Rey is even greater when these two clubs meet: “Our aim is to show our potential on the pitch and to win the matches. We are in the semi-finals now, playing Barcelona. Our aim, logically, is to get good results. We will do everything we can to win. It is the best derby in the world and the whole planet will be following it. It is always something special for us. The players want to show what we can do and always play against the best. Obviously, you always want to win this type of match, especially for the fans who support us all year, and we want to reward this with a win against Barcelona”.

To the right...

To the right…

The Whites will be looking for a good result in this first-leg match ahead of the second-leg which will be played away, and Özil is aware that a good performance from the whole team will be vital in the match. “We know about Cristiano Ronaldo’s potential He is one of the best players in the world and in recent years has shown how important he is for our team. But at the end of the day this is about the team, not Cristiano or any other player. Naturally we know his strong points, we need him, but we have to work as team to be successful”.

The German midfielder is in his third season with the club and made clear how happy this makes him: “Firstly, I am very grateful to be able to play for such a big club. My first match for Real Madrid was very special for me. But the best moments are when you win trophies with the club. For example, the final against Barcelona, when we beat them in the Super Cup or winning La Liga, those stay in your memory for ever”.

Now walk it by yourself...

Round and round and out of sight…

Özil is a very creative footballer and is capable of creating the pass that decides a match. He reacted to the praise of his team mates and coaches, saying: “Logically I am very happy that people see me like that. My aim is always to offer my all that I can on the pitch. I enjoy playing football. I enjoy being on the pitch and having the ball. I am proud that they say things like that, of course”.

And now for a few bits & bobs. Watishista Em sent me this hilarious shot of Xabi Wan Kenobi which came from @BarcaTheOffside of all places!

proxyArgh. Is there really a Clasico tomorrow? I just can’t take it. WHY GOD WHY?! I don’t think a bumper crop of Enzo and puppies would help my angst, but here’s Carol with Luca and Isabella for some cuteness. I envy her ability to wear bright yellow because I definitely cannot.

fbc88080671711e2b3e122000a1f9a4f_7El Pirata cheered me up as always by posting this photo captioned “Keep calm & find a #bookstore” A man after my own heart.

7ae45dd8699511e29b7122000a1f9a64_7I was pleased to hear that Pirata played 89 minutes today in QPR’s 0-0 draw against Man City.

Juan Mata, Esteban’s bestie, posted a shot with teammates Cesar Azpilicueta (aka Dave) and Marko Marin.

5f5e74fe6a3511e2a12822000a9f18f6_7Wee Santi Cazorla posted a shot today as well. Haven’t shared a picture of him in awhile. He’s rocking his DSquared, as always.

BBynDfZCUAAeroaA lot going on with Arsenal today… David Beckham was training with them. Poldi looks positively giddy.

Here’s a bonus shot of David in his underpants shooting a commercial. Just because.

47626_10151159482576571_931657183_nDavid’s missus, the fabulous Victoria, will be Elle UK’s March cover girl. Here’s a short interview and behind the scenes video.

And finally, a little something from the WTF?! files: Andrey Arshavin as you probably never wanted to see him: kittenish and coyly posing like he’s in Tiger Beat or a boy band. (Courtesy of @MaloneyAFC and @LadyArse – please send them your therapy bills. Ta!)

BBy3L-ZCEAA4-dcI just…I can’t…I’m actually speechless for once! I’ll get to that Sergio Ramos Slideshow of Forgetting that I promised once I get home tonight.

Isn’t Arshavin a bit old for the boygroup poses? xD

I’m pretty sure that’s not Xabi’s official instagram account. Álvaro would have tagged him in the photo with Mahama otherwise, but he only tagged Mikey 😉

::shrugs:: hard to keep track of what is real or not anymore. Everyone keeps changing their account names. Marcelo has changed his at least 4 times. Arbeloa twice.

Nagore doesn’t follow it, so I guess it’s just an impostor http://web.stagram.com/follows/29119011?npk=1345308318190

Oh well, win some, lose some. I’ll correct it after dinner. I need a break – been a very long day.

I’m trying to imagine Xabi on instagram, it’d be an endless row of photos of his toes and watches xD
No hurry, sorry for being a nitpicker.

Coffee cups, watches, wilco on vinyl.

No worries. Just totally figures that on the day that I’m too busy at work to check myself and take for face value something someone sent to me, that it’s wrong. My whole week’s going like that. I deleted it.

Andrey: like some sort of coquettish Oliver Twist? In an awful way…

I would love to wear neon yellow but my colouring also precludes it

I think that Carol looks fab tho ( I tend to stick to coral tones)

  3. Mehreh January 29, 2013 at 6:52 pm #

Awww, karim looks tasty. He’s really growing on me, the little croissant.

I love brights and I love how carol dresses. She has pretty consistently good taste.

“logisticamente, soy muz feliz!”-Mes. That’s all I read, and heard in my mind during his reaction to the praise he received. As for keeping calm, I’m definitely looking forward to the slideshow: Keep Calm and #SeSe on.

OMG I wonder if Shiggers will be as creeped out as I am by how much Luca looks like Kaka! Its becoming more apparent every time I see a new picture of him!

    Becks… *sigh*
Arshvin… always been a little weirdo

  6. GourcuffLover January 30, 2013 at 1:36 am #

I wish there was an actual video interview of Ozil speaking English.
On the other hand, did I miss something with Beckham?? Is he playing for Arsenal now?

  7. MissLadya January 31, 2013 at 5:59 am #

Lots to take in, yet the one thing that stuck in my mind is “HALLELUYAH BENZ IS GROWING OUT THE REST OF HIS HAIR!!”
