Awards & A Visit

tumblr_mjv547ppcU1rjev45o1_500Sorry for the quiet weekend blog-wise. It’s been a very busy few days. Here’s another quickie post. Hoping for some longer ones tomorrow.  Mou & Cris were recipients at Marca’s Sports Awards. Cristiano (photo courtesy of GFSports) won the Alfredo Di Stefano Trophy and it was fittingly presented by Don Alfredo himself.  Mou went to watch Galatasaray play live and Butragueno accepted his award for him. Here’s a video of Mou and his former player Wesley Sneijder adorably greeting each other.

Real Madrid were awarded prizes in the Marca Football Awards. The Portuguese coach, who could not attend the ceremony held in the Galeria de Cristal del Palacio de Cibeles, so it was Emilio Butragueño who picked up the award in his place, which he has won for the second year in a row and is also the first Real Madrid coach to be given this award, which was first awarded in 2005/06. The season that his team had last year in which they broke records by getting 100 points and scoring 121 goals, were decisive factors.

Referring to the European Cup and the tie against Galatasaray, he said: “It will not be easy to get passed the Turkish side and then we’ll see what lies ahead in the semi-final draw”.

Winning La Liga will be tough, but it will be possible right to the end”. About his exceptional start to 2013, he said: “I’m playing well, but I want to win major trophies with Real Madrid”.

Some of those attending the gala did not hide their admiration for Mourinho and Cristiano Ronaldo. The former Whites’ players Zoco and Pachin are the best examples. “If he is with Real Madrid it is because he is the best. The results have shown that and this season I’m sure he’ll bring happiness to the club again the form of a title”, they said about the coach. They weren’t shy in praising the forward either. “He is a great player that stands out for his power and ambition. Hopefully his goals this season will bring titles for Real Madrid”, said the first. The second also highlighted the virtues of the Portuguese and the similarities he has with the Real Madrid Honorary President: “He is a phenomenon. A player that will go down in history, he is complete and dominates all aspects of football. He is the closest thing I’ve seen to Alfredo Di Stefano”.

Busy times for Real Madrid! They also hosted the International Olympic Committee. The IOC was checking out the Santiago Bernabeu as part of Madrid’s bid for the 2020 Olympics. The Peez, Bond Villain and San Iker were pressed into service to hang with the committee. The members even got to take a shot on goal with Iker between the sticks! If you guys break him again, I am so boycotting the Olympics from here on out.

The visit of the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) Evaluation Committee in Madrid began this Monday as the group evaluates Madrid’s 2020 Olympic bid. The 17 commission members will stay in the Spanish capital until Thursday and spent their first day in the city visiting the Santiago Bernabéu stadium. Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez, first-team captain Iker Casillas and Director of Institutional Relations Emilio Butragueño hosted the group that was also accompanied by Ana Botella, the Mayor of Madrid; President of the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE) Alejandro Blanco; and Miguel Cardenal, president of the National Sports Council (CSD).

Visita (4)Visita (5)The IOC will choose between Madrid, Istanbul or Tokyo to host the 2020 Olympics and will announce their decision on Sept. 7th in Buenos Aires. An eagerly-awaited countdown for the Spanish capital this week as the Evaluation Commission visits Madrid to assess the city’s bid. The group, headed by IOC Vice President Sir Craig Reedie, visited the Santiago Bernabéu on the first day of their visit as part of the commission’s review of the various venues that make up this ambitious Olympic project.

Visita (6)Visita (7)The commission was greeted at the entrance to the Royal Box by club president Florentino Pérez, who together with Iker Casillas and Emilio Butragueño guided the group on a tour of the facilities. The commission first saw the blueprints of the all the stadiums where the football matches would be held and the stadiums’ locations. The group then visited the pitch to better appreciate the stadium’s capacity, where the members took advantage of this unique opportunity to try their luck at penalty shots against Casillas. A traditional “family photo” was taken of the Evaluation Commission and the various Madrid representatives on the pitch, and the group concluded their tour in the dressing rooms where each of the Commission members received a personalised Real Madrid jersey.

Oh ho! Personalized jerseys and a chance to score on Iker. Heck, I’d give Madrid the bid just for that.

The team members who aren’t on international duty will return to training tomorrow.

Do you think CR7 is getting a bit old for the same old pointy hair do? I think he would be better off…in my humble opinion. He could do without the fake tan and who the heck dresses this guy? Is that what he comes up with when he has all that money. Really, Cris, come to Washington State and I’ll choose better clothes for you!!! Otherwise, you’re so awesome!

Consuela I agree with you. I wish Cris would grow up and dress like a man, not a little boy. There’s a picture of everyone, and all the gentleman are dress in suits, Cris looks like he does not belong there. It hurts me when I see him dress so ridiculous.
      Full disclosure I love Cristiano.

Me too but don’t these guys have mirrors in their rooms? Don’t they have people who make sure they look alike? And, I am sure in the summer we are going to see pictures of him and his friends on someone’s yacht getting tan. Skin cancer anyone? I had a little run in with it, luckily it was the good kind of skin cancer – basil carcinoma. All they do is take it out.

I’m glad someone thinks the way I do!

We’re all allowed our guilty pleasures. I never pass up an opportunity to profess my love for David Villa. Although I’d be more wary of those raised in La Masia – the cule is strong in those 🙂

Nah, the heart wants what it wants as my dear Kfunk22 would say. 🙂

Sneijder and Mou waving at each other has to be the cutest thing I’ve seen since whenever the last time Enzo did something especially adorable. Mou is using both arms!!

Cris did not disappoint me with this outfit. I love matching the shades to the jacket. He is the best. Congrats on the fantastic award, and what an honor to receive it from the legend himself!
