Coentrao was at training but ran on his own. Iker trained with the team, but as you’ll see in Karanka’s presser a bit further down, he’s still not 100% match fit so he wasn’t called up for tomorrow’s match against Zaragoza. In other news, it looks like Mou got a haircut. I approve.

Aitor Karanka gave today’s presser speaking about Iker’s situation and whether players would be rested with the match vs. Galatasaray which is coming up on Wednesday.

Karanka: “The team is doing very well and the decisive part of the season is starting”

“We want to win and carry on our run of victories from before the international break”, Real Madrid’s assistant coach said about the match against Zaragoz

Karanka_en_rueda_de_prensa (4)Aitor Karanka appeared before the media in the Real Madrid Football City’s press room the day before the Whites’ match against Zaragoza in the Romareda stadium. The Madrid assistant coach discussed the fixture: “They are in a difficult position, and for us it is an important match after the international break, where luckily we did not have any serious injuries as has happened on other occasions, because we are on a good run of form. We want to win and carry on the run of wins we were having before this break. The team is doing very well and the decisive part of the season is starting. We have to finish like this”.

Karanka_en_rueda_de_prensaWith regards to the possibility that Mourinho will rotate players in La Romareda with the Champions League quarter final coming up, he said: “Coentrão is on the list of players selected and we will see how he progresses until tomorrow. There are players who have had long journeys and two matches back to back with their national teams, so we will wait until tomorrow to pick the starting line-up”.

Karanka_en_rueda_de_prensa (3)On the subject of Casillas’s inclusion amongst the payers called up, he said: “He was cleared by the doctors some time ago, but he still is not ready to play as he is not one hundred per cent match fit. He has not been selected but he is training well and that is good for everyone. When he is one hundred per cent, he will be ready to play, but he is the goal keeper which makes it more difficult”. He was asked about the best qualities of both the team captain and Diego López, and said: “The best thing is to ask Silvino Louro, who is the goalkeeping coach”.

Karanka_en_rueda_de_prensa (5)Karanka was also asked about Casemiro, the midfielder from Real Madrid Castilla: “We have 25 players available and all of them are very good. There are players from Castilla and Real Madrid C who are having a great season. We are keeping an eye on them and when we think they are ready to make their debut, they will”. He also spoke clearly about the suggestions that Mourinho has sent PSG a video with Barcelona’s vulnerabilities: “That’s ridiculous. It is not true”.

Karanka_en_rueda_de_prensa (2)The Real Madrid assistant coach was also asked about his future and Mourinho’s: “They are just rumours and the day that the coach decides to leave or has to leave, I will think about my future. I am very happy with him and the coaching staff, and I have no plans, for now”. Finally, and with regards to any new players the team needs for next season, he made it clear that the most important thing is the Zaragoza match: “The training staff and the coach are just thinking about tomorrow’s match in La Romareda”.

The following players were called up for tomorrow’s match:

Goalkeepers: Diego López, Adán, Jesús.
Defenders: Pepe, Ramos, Coentrão, Carvalho, Marcelo, Arbeloa, Albiol.
Midfielders: Khedira, Kaká, Özil, Alonso, Essien, Modric, Callejón, Di María.
Strikers: Cristiano Ronaldo, Benzema, Higuaín.

The team has headed off to Zaragoza – Sergio tweeted this shot. More later…
