Out former ‘baller Robbie Rogers was the subject of two great articles today in the Guardian and New York Times which talked about his coming out and the aftermath. Sam Borden from NYT also chatted with Robbie via video. Robbie was one of the signers of the Athlete’s Brief to the Supreme Court which was filed as part of the case of Hollingsworth v. Perry, which challenges California’s Proposition 8 ban on same-sex marriage. It’s been really encouraging that Robbie has been getting great support from fans, the press and players alike. One tribute that was truly moving was made by Philadelphia Union supporters club, Sons of Ben. Simple and beautiful. I hope many other clubs/fans follow suit. These sorts of displays will hopefully promote a more tolerant climate. I’d love to see an out ‘baller continue their playing career.

Whether he wants to be a spokesman or not, his courage won’t go unrecognized.
I’m glad he’s speaking out! He seems to be a great person, thoughtful, humble and sincere. The interviews are great reads, thanks for sharing!
He’s a truly beautiful soul isn’t he? I don’t know how I missed this yesterday. So glad he’s getting so much support.
