Sunday Training, DLo Interview, Travel To Istanbul & More

7 Apr

What a day, what a day. I’m finally getting around to posting. I ended up having to go to the mall today, which was a complete horrorshow. It was ram packed, screaming toddlers everywhere and it completely sapped my will to live. I came home to my blessedly quiet apartment, face planted and slept like a log. Never doing that again on a weekend no matter how much I need something. Ugh. Here’s a bit of a catch up of today’s activities…

Yeah, good luck with that guy, Pipa. Ain't happening.

The following players were called up for Tuesday’s Champions League match against Galatasary.

Goalkeepers: Casillas, Diego López, Adán and Jesús.
Defenders: Varane, Pepe, Coentrão, Marcelo, Arbeloa, Albiol and Nacho.
Midfielders: Khedira, Özil, Essien, Modric, Callejón and Di María.
Forwards: Cristiano Ronaldo, Benzema, Higuaín and Morata.

Xabi & Sergio were not called up due to card accumulation.

UEFA had a video interview/report on Sergio, which you can watch here. DLo was interviewed by Bwin about the upcoming match and here’s an excerpt. BTW, be warned, the media is spewing “Iker out!” crap and making out that there’s basically a Texas cage match between Iker & DLo. If you want to keep your sanity, avoid reading any of them. Oh and this? Never okay. Ever. People need to get a heaping dose of perspective. Arseholes.

Diego López: “We got a good result, but the tie is not decided yet, and we will have to be alert”

“The key is to keep calm in defence, and come out looking to score a goal, which would practically seal the tie”, said the white team keeper regarding the away leg against Galatasaray

The great result from the Bernabeu leaves the tie in Madrid’s favour. The white team are facing their visit to Galatasaray with caution, although confident regarding their possibilities. Diego López analysed the quarter-finals away leg on the Bwin webpage: “The tie is not over because we know what football is like and we are going to a difficult stadium to face a team which, although they did not show their best side, are better than they were in the first leg, and we will have to remain alert. It is clear that 3-0 is a very good result for us, but I believe the key will be to score a goal there, and then the tie will be practically over”.

The Madrid keeper was clear about their approach to the game in the Ali Sami Yen: “We must try to play as much as possible like in the first leg. They are a team who play well on the counter-attack, and they have very fast players up front who are always looking for depth. We have to keep calm in defence, keep everything tight and go for them. We mustn’t think about the 3-0, although it is clear that this is a knock-out match and the 3-0 is there, but I see scoring a goal or looking for goals as the key. It is rare that this team leaves a nil on the scoreboard in any game, and one clear and definitive option is this”.

Mourinho’s side will have to fight against the atmosphere and pressure which the Turkish fans always create on their own turf. “I expect the game to be made difficult by the atmosphere, because it is a good team and they are going to give everything to try and knock us out. This side has a lot of experience in this type of match, and a goal would leave us in a great position because they would have to score five against us, and it would be an uphill struggle for them. Our mentality will be to go there and score, and not hide behind the 3-0 , because that would be a mistake”, declared Diego López, who did not hide his wishes regarding this Champions League: “It is a dream to be able to reach the final, and in the first leg we took an important step towards the semis, but there is a lot of work left to do. It is a difficult competition, and we know that at this club we are good in the Champions League, but it is a dream for everyone and I hope to be able to be there fighting for the trophy”.

Diego_LýpezThe Galatasaray squad has a higher average age than the white team squad, but the keeper does not think it will be a significant factor: “Although here the people are very young, they have a lot of experience. They are all internationals , have played finals in world cups with their national teams and with other teams. I think that in that respect age is not a factor. The team is important, and the desire we have to show what we can do there, and try to stifle the atmosphere which will be in their favour , and all that”.

Diego López highlighted the figure of Cristiano Ronaldo and, when asked if he was the best football player he had played with, gave a clear reply: “Yes, I suffered a lot as his rival during my time at Villareal, and now I enjoy training and playing matches with him every day. He is a player who can make all the difference, who is always there at key moments, which is when great players like him have to make their mark. We can see that in all the crucial matches he scores goals, he is there, and that is very important for the team”.

Finally he analysed the other three ties from the Champions League quarter-finals. Regarding PSG-Barcelona he said: “It will be a tough match for the two sides. Barcelona come to the game with a result which gives them a slight advantage, but I believe it is one of the closest ties”. Regarding Bayern-Juventus he declared: “It is a very good result for Bayern, but Juve is a great team. At 2-0 it leans towards Bayern, but Italian sides, and above all Juve, who are having a great season, I have my doubts about how thay are going to face the match”. And regarding Málaga-Borussia: “Borussia is a great team, as they showed against us in the group stage, but Málaga is a tough team and a draw with goals would send them through. I hope Málaga are in the semi-finals as they are a Spanish team, but it is going to be hard for them”.

The team is already in Istanbul and settled into the Ciragan Palace Kempinski hotel. They will train tomorrow at Besiktas Inonu Stadi.

Both Sami & Mesut posted pictures of their rooms at the hotel. If you’re looking at angles, it seems that their rooms are right next to each other. Aw! I bet Mesut took the picture of Sami from his balcony!

I’m guessing it’s for Pilar’s Metalhead clothing line since he’s wearing one of their hats and she tweeted about it. It’s a Michael Jackson shirt. Oh Sese.

Looks like Sergio may have adopted a doggie as well. He tweeted that as it was 1000 days since winning the World Cup, he decided to name the dog Africa. I’m guessing it’s his because it’s not really common practice to just name random dogs that you don’t own, but then again, this is Sergio Ramos, so who knows? ::shrug::

Sese AfricaIker and his out of control biological clock posted another baby shot, but I’ll spare you that. He did post this shot of Marcelo though.

adaccd0c9ddb11e28e1522000a1f9a99_7Speaking of Marcelo, I’ve been having Enzo withdrawal lately. Haven’t been keeping up to date on his adventures. Here’s a few new shots.

tumblr_mkwb5hdIxx1qk9r5vo1_1280And finally, I had to post these shots. Our beloved Raul met up with former Blanco Michel Salgado. They both look fantastic!

And that’s me done and dusted for the evening. I can’t believe how one short trip to the mall destroyed me. Yeesh. I definitely have a renewed appreciation for shopping online.

I had all kinds of things to say about Enzo and Sergio’s new dog (which looks like an African dog they use for lion hunting. Boerbel or something like that. They get HUGE).

Then I saw Raul and Michel with Valentino Rossi and I completely fangirled!!! I have a friend who is in Qatar at that MotoGP race and if he caught photos of Raul and Michel I might die. He’s one of the MotoGP photographers…

    *hyperventilates*

Thought you would appreciate that! 🙂

I told A, I don’t know if I’m fangirling over the fact that Rossi got to meet Raul and Michel or if I’m fangirling over the fact that Michel and Raul got to meet Rossi. Probably the former, as I’ve met Rossi myself and he’s ridiculously fun. I have a photo somewhere that he bowed down at Xavi’s feet. Xavi looked both smug and embarrassed at the same time.

Give me Raul and Michel! AH!
        (Still fangirling)

The dog pic….it actually looks like one of those dog rehab kennels. Sometimes if a person works with an animal they can name them,,,even if they don’t adopt them.

It seems like if he adopted a dog…he would have been much more clear…in the Sergio way of his. If it is his dog….well would have expected one with a much more flamboyant coat!

Enzo is getting so big and grown up! Little man!

Ikercelo is clearly my new favorite RM bromance. Those guys…

Baby Leo Torres is SO cute, I can’t. Are the curls from olalla?

I think Sese is at his ranch in the south where he has a lot of dogs for hunting. She could be new but I guess he named her short after the WC and is now showing her because it’s been 1000 days.
The shirt is not for Metalhead but for some kind of charity. Could you imagine him designing clothes … an overdose of color and shiny fabrics at the very least! Don’t worry sweetie, you’re still my absolute favorite!
Cute little Enzo is developing some football skills! Love that kid, always smiling like his daddy!

I love that he spends his downtime designing a t shirt, go creative Sese!

I know I should focus on all the pretty in this post (Sergio! Sami! Enzo! Leo!), but wtf is going on with this Mou/Hitler poster? There’s so much wrong about this, I don’t know where to start… Urrgh.

Your comment about Pipa trying to bromance Xabi was exactly what I thought. I wonder how far Pipa will go to get that one on his side? I for one would love to see him pull out all the stops! But as long as the assists keep coming, we’re all the better for it.

Ikercelo is honestly one of the silver linings from both their injuries. The definition of adorkable those two! And Sergio’s quite an artist. Of dubious output, yes but he has some skills 😉
