Total Douche Move Of The Day: Avenida De Iker Casillas Plaque Defaced

22 Apr

Watishista cy found this on fatridista’s Tumblr. Many of you will remember when Iker had a street named for him in his hometown of Mostoles back in January 2012. Well, now some total arsehole decided to make their thoughts on the Iker/DLo issue well known.

fatridista posted the following translation:

“Act of vandalism at the Avenida de Iker Casillas: “(about Iker) Now he’s the best goalkeeper in Pozuelo (a municipality in Albacete, Castile-La Mancha). X Come on Diego L “

Why on earth would someone do this? If you’re a fan of how DLo is playing, great. He’s been a lifesaver for us, but to deface Iker’s plaque? WTF? And why the vitriol against Iker? The man who captained Spain to the World Cup and two Euros. It’s just shitty.

I just find this sort of thing depressing. These people aren’t fans. They’re arseholes. You can express an opinion without pulling something like this.

I’m sure DLo would be mortified, and rightfully so, by this kind of “:support.”

I’ll be happy to see Iker between the posts again. However, I don’t think DLo should be unceremoniously kicked to the curb because he’s been wonderful for us. I also don’t think that Iker making his first reappearance during the Champions League semi-finals is a good idea. It’s a thorny, difficult situation – one that I’m glad that I don’t have to deal with. It’s weird that we were having a complete shitfit a couple of months ago when Iker broke his hand, prophesying utter doom and now we have the enviable situation of two keepers that we can count on.  I think it would be great if they could somehow alternate in the future so each of them could have some matches as well as some rest. Am I an idealist? Yeah, I guess so. We’ll have to wait and see how it plays out.

But this? Not okay. Not even a little bit.

– Lozil

DISGUSTING! The nerve of some people… I happen to love DLo and am really glad we were able to get him when we did, but as you said that doesn’t mean we treat Iker like crap and forget all he has done! They are both players who have spent so much time at Real, they both respect the club, and they seem to respect each other too. Who gets to play and when is between the coach and the players. This sort of hate is just absolutely uncalled for!

  2. Nooria April 22, 2013 at 9:29 pm #

This is just plain awful!!!!! I love DLo just as much as any madridista out there, who thought their team was destined for failure when Iker’s injury struck, but this is NO WAY to express this! To be honest, I’m fed up with the constant Iker-DLo comparisons, they’re both great keepers, and I’m pretty sure neither of them would want to see this. In the end, none of us is the coach, and i have full faith in Mou.

You know how I feel about the entire situation. I don’t care what you think of Iker or Diego. This is shitty. And if you believe everything they say in the media I feel bad for you.

As you said, it’s a privilege that we have two amazing goalkeepers we can choose from. How many teams can truly say that? Not in only Spain but in the world?

I’m just waiting for the “everything is Mou’s fault” backlash. And I have to say that what worries me more than rumors of pretty much everyone leaving this summer is the fact that Flo Peezy’s term as prez is up soon…

    • headbandsandheartbreak April 22, 2013 at 9:39 pm #

Oy. Like we need anymore dramz?

      • mygypsyspirit April 22, 2013 at 9:55 pm #

Well, what I’m hoping is that the members will realize what FloP has done for this club. Because FloP understands what Mou has done for the club. And sometimes I get the feeling he’s the only one on Mou’s side

        • headbandsandheartbreak April 22, 2013 at 9:57 pm #

I’m feeling that too. There was a time when I didn’t think he was, but I really feel like he is.

          • mygypsyspirit April 23, 2013 at 7:38 am #

Well, I think there was a time when there had to be a bit of mutual respect between them. And Mou is a pretty demanding guy. When allowed to run free he rules with an iron fist but gets results. That’s not necessarily how Real Madrid works. Not saying that the club isn’t results driven, they obviously are. Anything other than a win and we’re all in crisis mode… But Mou is a different monster. It just turns out he’s a phenomenally intelligent and surprisingly nice monster

    So fucking stupid.

  5. cy (@meridiansour) April 22, 2013 at 9:52 pm #

That’s why I almost didn’t want to say anything, because it was just going to make people more depressed about the state of the world. But whoever did this deserves to be shamed and should be ashamed of themselves.

  6. CinematiqueChic April 22, 2013 at 11:00 pm #

Absolutely shameful. How anybody could do this and still call themselves a madridista is beyond me. Diego has been wonderful but Iker is our captain and Spain’s captain. Short memories some people have.

Lost for words . We don’t need this kind of drama ! Idiots !

  8. Jenny April 23, 2013 at 1:05 am #

I get the uneasy feeling this wasn’t a Madridista at all but some shit-stirring idiot.

  9. Backwards April 23, 2013 at 3:56 am #

That’s such a cheap, lousy thing to do. Makes my blood boil when I see people tarnish players plaques like this (regardless of who they play for)
It’s not the first time something like this has happened, and it won’t be the last unfortunately.

  10. Anonymous April 23, 2013 at 5:09 am #

Such a shame. Some people… By the way, I miss Iker. 😦

This has nothing to do with the topic, but “douche moves” is the perfect category for it: Mario Götze just disclosed that he will be transferring to Bayern in July. Today. One day before the big CL semifinal. While this can only benefit us (let’s face it, everybody in Dortmund is completely on the verge right now, the fans are going crazy)… I can’t even. How can you do that to your team? Imagine Cris telling us today that he’s going to Barca. WTF.

    • Backwards April 23, 2013 at 5:24 am #

      Wow, is that confirmed now?
Beyern are going to be unstoppable next season.

      • Anonymous April 23, 2013 at 6:39 am #

Yes, both teams confirmed it. Götze just closed his facebook because of all the insults and murder threats he was getting. :/

    • mygypsyspirit April 23, 2013 at 7:46 am #

I think the bigger douche move is that people would send threats his way. Am I the only person that doesn’t fault players for trying to further their careers? As a blossoming Dortmund fan and lover of Gotze am I disappointed? Yes. But the opportunity to play under Pep Guardiola? No offense to Klopp, he’s amazing, but it’s Pep… How do you say no?

I dunno… J put it best when she said I’m the Jose Mourinho of fans. I don’t get that emotional about most of it (Although I do admit to old Kaka footage making me get a little teary eyed). I’m just very matter-of-fact. I understand the business, I suppose. I can’t fault the players for wanting more… Especially when they’re as young as Gotze

      • Anonymous April 23, 2013 at 8:10 am #

Oh don’t get me wrong, I don’t blame him (or anyone else) for leavIng, not at all. I blame him for leaving NOW. The timing ist just horrible. But of course this does not justify any murder threats or death wishes.

        • mygypsyspirit April 23, 2013 at 9:01 am #

From what I read he was kind of forced to confirm it. Bayern threw it out there first. Which, for Bayern, was a HUGE mind game to get the fans and probably team as screwy as possible right before semi-finals

          • Backwards April 23, 2013 at 9:49 am #

BM major MOs… Strengthen themselves, weaken opposition. Pretty awesome stuff by them.

            • Anonymous April 23, 2013 at 10:00 am #

It has been confirmed by Dortmund that it was NOT Bayern who leaked it. Current rumor:

“This guy from Fulham tweeted about the Gotze transfer three days ago:

The funny thing is he found out about it because an interested EPL manager was enquiring about Gotze, only to find out that Mario had already agreed to join Bayern. When asked who the manager was, he said it was Arsene Wenger.”

          • Luz April 23, 2013 at 10:01 am #

And I was just about to write the same thing – mind games from Bayern – not very nice to say the least. Great minds think alike 😉

Regarding the transfer – it’s not a shock that he has decided to leave Dortmund – he was bound to – but Bayern – I didn’t see that one coming. However, his buy-out clause was 37 millions Euros – a lot of money of course – but for the richest clubs in Europe it’s definitely not an impossible amount. Some are saying that RM has renewed Varane’s contract with a HUGE buy-out clause (rumours say 100mill Euro????? – maybe a bit exaggerated) – maybe Dortmund should have done the same. Let’s hope that they don’t end up being the German equivalent to Arsenal…

            • Backwards April 23, 2013 at 10:16 am #

These numbers are crazy, but both insanely talented young players with plenty of steam left so not much of a gamble. Will be interesting to see how the crowd reacts to Gotze during the game.

              • OzilLover April 24, 2013 at 1:12 am #

Gotze to Bayern is the only thing people can talk about …then again I was pretty shocked too, poor Reus!! Who is he going to run to when he scores!!!

  11. jellyace April 23, 2013 at 8:49 am #

I like having two top and experienced goalkeepers in the team. It is good risk management to always have a Plan B, and that’s Diego. Adan on goal is still erratic and well, we haven’t even seen Jesus save us. But I feel for Jesus and Adan as they’ve been pushed down the ladder.

  12. Luz April 23, 2013 at 10:21 am #

Totally agree with you Lozil on the whole Iker-DLo situation and this idiotic stunt (pardon my language) – I’m an idealist too. DLo came in at a crucial stage this season and to be honest I’m not sure we would be playing the CL semi-finals if it wasn’t for DLo great saves against Man U – he has done a great job, but so has Iker. We are so lucky to have two great goalkeepers in our squad.
This stunt is disrespectful to both Iker and DLo who have nothing but respect for each other as the pre-match beso before the Betis-game showed:

  13. Anna April 23, 2013 at 5:04 pm #

aside from this making me really angry, I think I find it more upsetting. Poor Iker, he seems like one of the most lovely people in football and he’s done so much for both club and country. People really do have short memories don’t they?
