Travel To Dortmund, Pressers, Training

23 Apr

Argh! This day has been nuts (again). Trying to catch up on everything while sneaking peeks at the Bayern – Barca match. Holy crap, what a whomping! Bayern are beasts! (I mean that as a compliment).

The team traveled (a short two hour flight) to Dortmund today and were greeted by fans on their arrival. (All additional photos in this post courtesy of GF Sports)

The Peez has also landed and fans posed happily with our rock star prez.

The team is now headquartered at the Radisson Blu until tomorrow’s match.

Cristiano shared a picture on Twitter saying that he was watching a movie at the hotel.

Visiting the team was former Blanco Christoph Metzelder who we originally bought from Borussia Dortmund. He currently plays for Schalke.

MetzelderMourinho did the presser today with Mesut in tow. (Sorry all the vids are in Spanish today – I’ll replace them with English ones if/when they post ’em).

Mourinho: “Making it to the semi-finals isn’t enough in this club. You have to give your all to make to the final”

“I’d be really happy if football was fair to our players because they want and deserve to go to Wembley”, said the Real boss

Jose Mourinho spoke to the press at the Signal Iduna Park press room a little over 24 hours before Real Madrid faces the first leg Champions League semi-finals. The Real boss, who confirmed that “Diego Lopez, Ramos, Varane, Pepe, Coentrão, Khedira, Alonso, Özil, Higuain, Cristiano Ronaldo and hopefully Di Maria” will play tomorrow, analyzed the upcoming match against Borussia Dortmund: “Making it to the semi-finals isn’t enough in this club. You have to give your all to make to the final and try to win it. Klopp is a fantastic coach; I think he’s genuine and honest. When I read that he’s not much interested in Real Madrid and only worries about his team and their identity I expect nothing less than a Borussia with an attacking style that’s going to go all out. It’s their philosophy and he’s very honest whenever he speaks. I can’t expect anything less than that”.

The Portuguese manager also spoke about how confident his team is ahead of the playoff: “I rely on individual quality and the collective quality of this team. We have a way of playing that’s well known, we’ve been on the brink for three years and we have a dynamic that guarantees quality. I also rely on mindset because the players want and deserve to go to Wembley. I’d be really happy if football was fair to our players because they’re people that, with the exception of maybe four or five players, have never won this competition and as a team we’ve never won it. We were eliminated in the semi-finals two years ago in a way that’s better not to speak of and last year it was on penalties, which is a hard situation to accept. We’re fighting to make it”.

Rueda_de_prensa_de_Mourinho (1)When asked about the way his team can overcome Dortmund’s pressure on the kickoff and the two clashes the teams have already had this season, Mourinho replied: “I don’t want to be very specific in my answer. Dortmund has its own way of playing and it’s not easy to play against them. I can’t say what it is we’re planning. The goals that we ceded to them in the two previous matches were our errors. The first was on a ball we lost in the first stages of construction and the second was because their winger wasn’t marked. They scored first in the Bernabeu because all our defenders rushed the ball and no one went to the area of protection and we didn’t close the spaces for their last goal. I hope that we’re more focused and solid defensively this playoff”.

Rueda_de_prensa_de_Mourinho (2)Mourinho was clear on whether getting bumped out of the competition would be a failure: “When I arrived this club already had nine European Cups, but it wasn’t even the top-seeded team in the draw. Now it’s a top-seeded club, I think third in the ranking, we’ve improved a lot and economically we’ve radically increased our earnings in this competition. Making it to the semi-finals isn’t enough in this club. You have to give your all to make to the final and try to win it”.

Rueda_de_prensa_de_Mourinho (4)Mourinho made special mention of two of his players: Di Maria and Casillas. The coach had the following to say about the winger: “He’s had a good day because his daughter was born, but it’s been rough because it wasn’t an easy situation for him or his family. We hope he’s ready to play”. Regarding the captain, Mourinho said: “I have a professional and polite relationship with Casillas”.

Rueda_de_prensa_de_Mourinho (3)When asked about the pressure his team might feel, the Real boss said: “I fight anxiety by not having it. If you’re anxious you have to live with it, but since I’m not I’m calm. It’s another match and we’ll try to win it to make it to the final, but without any anxiety”.

Rueda_de_prensa_de_Mourinho (5)The semi-finals kick off today with the clash between Bayern and Barcelona, and Mourinho said: “I hope that we see it. I said a few press conferences ago that it was a calm draw because there wasn’t one team that was better than the other and for that reason watching the Bayern-Barcelona match on TV is synonymous with calm. We all expect it to be a great match and it’s normal to expect a great game with two teams of this calibre”. Regarding Götze, Real’s opponent tomorrow and future Bayern player, the coach commented: “I don’t know the player or Borussia’s mindset and culture. I have no idea whether it can have positive, negative or no consequences”.

tumblr_mlpu96AoV11qftb6ko2_500To conclude, Mourinho congratulated Alex Ferguson for his recent Premier League win: “It comes as no surprise to me or anyone else that Ferguson is champion again. I congratulate him”.

Mesut was up next…

Özil: “We want to give the best account of ourselves so that we reach the final and achieve our objective”
by Alberto Navarro (Dortmund)

“I am pleased to have hit some form and to be scoring goals, but the most important thing is that we operate as a team and give the best account of ourselves”, said the Real Madrid midfielder

tumblr_mlpwfrlgNC1qftb6ko2_500Mesut Özil appeared alongside José Mourinho before the media at the Signal Iduna Park, where Real Madrid will face Borussia Dortmund tomorrow in the semi final first leg of the European cup. The Whites’ midfielder, who is returning to the country of his birth, talked about his feelings about the game against his countrymen: “It is a special feeling to play against some of my team mates for the German national side, but it is even more special to do so for Real Madrid in the semi final of the Champions League. This is the third time I have reached the semi final stage of this competition for this team and we want to give the best account of ourselves tomorrow so that we can reach the final and achieve our objective”.

In reference to the outstanding season that he has had, he said: “I am pleased to have hit some form and to be scoring goals. The most important thing is that we operate as a team, that we give the best account of ourselves and we give a good image of the club. I would like to say again how pleased I am to be scoring goals, but that is not the most important thing. The most important thing is that we get results as a team”.

Lastly, and in relation to the transfer of Götze to Bayern for next season, he stated: “I didn’t know anything about it and this is the first I’ve heard of it. I am very happy for him because he is a great player and a great person. However, I don’t want to dwell on that because I want to focus on tomorrow’s game”.

Dortmund coach Jürgen Klopp and midfielder/Daily Drool alum Jakub “Kuba” Blaszczykowski spoke for Dortmund.

Klopp: “Borussia Dortmund is a special club and tomorrow is the time to prove it”
by Alberto Navarro (Dortmund)

“We haven’t lost a game this Champions League season and we hope it stays that way tomorrow”, said midfielder Blaszczykowski

Rueda_de_prensa_de_Klopp_y_BlaszczykowskiJürgen Klopp and Jakub Blaszczykowski spoke to the press in Signal Iduna Park’s press room ahead of tomorrow’s clash between Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid. The Dortmund boss confirmed that “Lewandowski will start” and analyzed the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals: “Borussia Dortmund is a special club and tomorrow is the time to prove it. We’re facing a match that means a lot and I hope that everyone comes out to support us to reach our goal. I’m not all that interested in what Real Madrid does because we have our fans on our side and if they back us like always we’ll have no problem tomorrow. We’ve had exceptional opportunities when our fans have done a fantastic job supporting us and that’s why I hope that they cheer us on tomorrow in a match that means so much to us”.

Rueda_de_prensa_de_Klopp_y_Blaszczykowski (1)Midfielder Blaszczykowski commented on the significance the clash has for his team: “What we’ve achieved is amazing and tomorrow’s match has special meaning. The things we’ve accomplished so far have to give us strength. We haven’t lost a game this Champions League season and we hope it stays that way tomorrow. We respect Real Madrid tremendously because they’ve accomplished a lot in the past, but we hope to play our best and pick up a good score tomorrow”.

Rueda_de_prensa_de_Klopp_y_Blaszczykowski (2)When asked about Bayern Munich signing Mario Götze for next season, Dortmund’s coach replied: “It would have been worse to wait four hours before the match but from one to ten on a scale of negativity this is a nine. There could have been better moments to give the news and we all know why it was announced. I found out that it was done yesterday at 10:00 p.m. and received information on what was happening Thursday after the match against Malaga. It’s unexpected news for us and we’re all disappointed because Götze is an exceptional player. This is the situation and the only thing he could say is that last year we signed Reus for 17 million euros when he played with Mönchengladbach. That’s business. Now more than ever we want to play well and win this match. I don’t think that Götze, his agents or Bayern Munich were interested in letting the news out now”.

Rueda_de_prensa_de_Klopp_y_Blaszczykowski (6)Regarding whether he had spoken to Götze after the transfer was made official, Klopp responded: “I spoke with him but this isn’t the time to talk about it and make a big deal out of it. We have an important match tomorrow. We’ve put up a fight to get here and it’s not fair to give so much time to this topic. He told me that he’s a player that Guardiola wants. He wants to take advantage of the opportunity to train under such a prestigious coach and we can’t blame him. He knows that Dortmund has given him the opportunity and I want to ask the fans to support us tomorrow and that those who are affected by his transfer to put the sadness aside and support us. Those who can’t do that should give their ticket to someone else”.

Rueda_de_prensa_de_Klopp_y_Blaszczykowski (4)Coach Klopp was emphatic when asked about his tactical approach tomorrow on the pitch: “You’ll see what I’m going to do tomorrow. Real Madrid has different styles of playing and whoever saw the match against Manchester United saw that Real had a lot of possession and created dangerous occasions. I’m not going to say how I’m going to deactivate their game”.

Rueda_de_prensa_de_Klopp_y_Blaszczykowski (5)Blaszczykowski spoke about his teams previous two clashes against Real Madrid this season: “The two games we played against Real Madrid were exciting and important for us. If we play like we did in those two matches we have a good chance to win the playoff. I’ve been here for six years and the fans have always supported us. I’m sure that they’ll do a fantastic job tomorrow”.

Rueda_de_prensa_de_Klopp_y_Blaszczykowski (3)Our boys also held a training session today at Signal Iduna Park and seemed in great spirits.

As you’ve probably already sussed out the following players were called up for the match:

Goalkeepers: Casillas, Diego López, Adán and Jesús.
Defenders: Varane, Pepe, Sergio Ramos, Coentrão, Albiol, Carvalho and Nacho.
Midfielders:  Xabi Alonso, Khedira, Özil, Kaká, Modric, Callejón, Di María and Casemiro.
Strikers: Cristiano Ronaldo, Benzema, Higuaín and Morata.

Arbeloa is suspended for this leg while Marcelo & Essien are injured.

Woof – that’s a pretty huge update for you to mull over. I am so freaking nervous about tomorrow! We’ll have a match post up in the morning so we can have a place to vent.

– Lozil

    A few points:

Mou now has ‘Z.M’ on his training kit…cute! (Ze is the diminutive of Jose in Portuguese, I take this as a good omen that he’s staying)
His hair is chanelling Ken Barlow. Less good
What in the holy hell is going on with Mesut’s facial ‘hair’, that first photo in particular is terrifying

    • Mehreh April 23, 2013 at 6:45 pm #

i didn’t want to be the first to mention that, but mesut’s facial hair has got to go.

  2. consuela April 23, 2013 at 7:23 pm #

Agree with you folks about Mesut’s face hair but I wanted to say that Mou should start wearing looser clothing – not tight – cuz it shows his man boobs.

      That’s Laverne & Shirley!
Yes, we much prefer Mou in his Italian suits!

I think Mesut stole clippings from Pique’s hair and just pasted it on his face. And if Bayern were to somehow sweet-talk Hummels back, and kidnap Samisut from Real, they’d pretty much have the complete German NT team. Wonder if that’s their long-term strategy … XP

In mourning for Barca…..*sigh* I feel badly for those guys…..tough season

  6. Danielle April 24, 2013 at 4:34 am #

I quite like Mesut’s facial hair

I’m sooooooo nervous. I brought my Ronaldo jersey to work today. It’s currently sitting on the back of my chair since I’m not allowed to wear it (stupid dress code). I’m being made fun of by pretty much everyone. 4 1/2 hours of this torment is well worth it WHEN we make it to the final!

  8. Anna April 24, 2013 at 8:24 am #

I love how happy the boys look even though they’re preparing for a huge match, the picture where Sese is linking Pipa is too cute! Cris seems like such a happy person

  9. Luz April 24, 2013 at 9:12 am #

Update: just want to let you all know that Di Maria (Fideo) has landed in Dortmund and will be playing in the starting eleven tonight.
It must be sign that mother & daugther are allright.
