A Bit Of A Catch Up

6 May

BJfc1YiCAAA91ziI’ve been incredibly busy for the past 5 days so I’m going to try to do a quick catch up post, although I know that I won’t be able to fit everything in. Yesterday was Mother’s Day and many of the players posted shots with their mamis and/or partners. Easy to tell Marcelo’s grin anywhere, isn’t it? He’s barely changed!

In an older shot, the Albiol girls away their brother.

In a shot from a few weeks ago, the Albiol girls await their brother – due in July.

No Vanja in sight, but this is a sweet picture of Luka & Ivano.

I realized that I’ve never posted any pictures of DLo and his adorable family – I’ve been saving them up for a bebe/puppy spectacular that I have yet to post. So here’s a bunch of DLo with his pretty wife Iria and their daughter Zoe, who turned one last month. I love how she looks just like DLo in a bonnet! He seems like a very active and involved Daddy. How cute are they?

Adorbs! Nagore and Xabi didn’t post any Mother’s Day pictures that I could find, but when I was looking at some of her shots, it looks like they may have themselves a new puppy. If I’m not mistaken that’s an English bulldog. Let the rumors begin! (Much like the ‘Mou in Ikea’ freak out that’s been going on. Mourinho. In an Ikea. Schlepping his own packing materials. As if. Dirty Tackle ,of course, had something to say about that.)

e3813fdcae7811e2b19422000a1f9bc9_7Sergio has been everywhere lately. Yesterday, he took in the Moto GP at Jerez and today he was at the Madrid Open with Rene. Here’s an interview with him at the tennis. (Photos via GF Sports)

At Moto GP

And at the Madrid Open…

Kay Murray was back in Madrid for the FIFA Interactive World Cup and Raul Albiol joined her for the Grand Final Group Stages. You can see some video over on FIFATV.
Both Mesut and Karim shared some pictures with us. That means that Karim hung out with people 3 times! (Unless he just stops passersby and asks them to take pictures – to be fair, one looks professional but…). Progress!

Reportaje_Copa_de_CampeonesReportaje_Copa_de_Campeones (1)Jose & Antonio won it in 2006. Sadly, Juvenil A was knocked out today in the first round by Celta with a score of 4-1.  Here’s some shots of the 2006 winners – they look so young!

Juventus won their 2nd consecutive league title yesterday and Alessandro Matri celebrated by stripping down to his underpants. As you do. I support this and think our boys should do this every game. Honk if you agree with me. Woot woot!

Don Alfredo proved there’s life in the old dog yet (he turns 87 in July) when he announced that he will be marrying 36 year old Gina Gonzalez. They met when she helped him prepare his book. He realizes that most folks won’t approve (including his kids), but he’s given a big old “Whatevs!” to that. He said he’s been a widower for 8 years and he’s in love and that’s that. Here’s the soon to be married couple. My theory is ‘as long as they’re happy.’

There’s been some sadness as well in the last week. AIK’s 32 year old goalkeeper Ivan Turina died in his sleep on Thursday. He was known to have a congenital heart issue, but had been in great shape. Obviously, his family, teammates and fans of AIK are in shock. Ivan leaves behind 1 year old twin daughters and his wife, who was pregnant with the couple’s third child.

Salt Lake City referee Ricardo Portillo has died after slipping into a coma when he was punched by a youth player that he gave a yellow card to. He had been beaten twice prior in 8 year refereeing career, having his legs and ribs broken. He refused to quit even though his daughter begged him because he loved the game.

This comes on the heels of the death of volunteer linesman Richard Nieuwenhuizen, who was beaten to death in December 2012 by three teenagers during a match in Almere, Netherlands when he made an offside call against their team.

This is beyond horrifying.  I read an interview with Mr. Portillo’s daughter where she talked about the aggressiveness of the parents on the sidelines and how the kids were mirroring that behavior.  I can’t help but shake my head. This is why I get so angry about the aggressive partisanship I see with some teams and their supporters. No game is worth someone losing their life over, especially people who give their time willingly for love of the sport.

Sorry to end this post on such a bummer note. I’ll make another quick one that is a bit more “up” in nature. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of Ivan Turina, Ricardo Portillo and Richard Nieuwenhuizen who are surely feeling their loss today and will forever.

It honestly disgusts me to hear these stories where people, much less a YOUTH player, go to such an extent, to supposedly defend their team. Some people take things way out of hand, without thinking of consequences….

One fine example is some colleagues of mine who jumped for joy when it was found that Abidal had cancer. I mean, these people were happily wishing for his death, and although I’m a madridista just like any other, I would NEVER think of wishing death onto any other rival player/coach…at the end of the day, they’re human beings just like us, who have loved ones, friends and family to go home to…sometimes I wish people would just think a little more

*Rant over…sorry, I get worked up for things like this 🙂 *

Oh that is just disgusting. Anyone who wishes ill on someone just because they play for another team is morally bankrupt, IMHO. Really repulsive behavior.

        Ikr! Extremely repulsive behaviour!!!

These incidents are horrific and I really feel for their families. Refs should not have to fear for their lives.

In happier things – all the mother’s day photos are so sweet. Baby Zoe is such a cutie! And I love how much Sergio adores his family. That photo with Paqui is the cutest.

I support Juve’s pantsless celebrations. Get on board, every other team… hehehe

holy shit about the referees and linesmen! this should not be happening.

on the bright side, yes, wining celebrations should be done in underpants!! i support that!

And Mou at Ikea!!! So what, in Toronto we had monkey at Ikea!!! Now that is news 🙂

smiling marcelo and clearly tired mom is killing me. i’m sure he’s always been a sweet ray of sunshine but he was probably exhausting to raise.

i think xabi has another bulldog too. they are the sweetest dogs, and so good with los ninos! i also can’t wait to see arbeloa boy!

your comment that “Karim hung out with people three times!” is making me giggle hysterically this morning. i wish he’d get a new couch, bless.

and bless juventus for celebrating in such a scantily clad manner. more trophies, less pants!

The story of the SLC ref worries me as a coach. I’ve seen parents get out of hand. It’s embarrassing. And it’s worrisome. I just don’t understand. My thoughts are with the families.

Marcelo’s mom looks a little River Song. Marcelo is just all around adorable.
David Luiz’s mom just looks like she would be fun. Look at her hamming it up with him! I adore him and his mom seems lovely.
I love the photos of Ana Sofia and Angeli. Also adore the little Arbeloa boys.
Is Albiol holding a big ass Chupa Chup? LOL
Diego Lopez looks VERY much like a great dad. 🙂

Sergio at MotoGP… Not as lovely as Michel Salgado and Raul at MotoGP but it will do 😉

More celebrations in underwear! I demand it! Make it happen people!

Am I only one who sees a bit of Sara Carbonero in Diego’s wife? Hey it can’t be a bad thing!
