It’s Official: Dani Carvajal Returns Home To Madrid

3 Jun

Dani CarvajalOur first “new” signing of the season is one of our own returning home. We exercised the buy back action from Bayer Leverkusen on right back Dani and he’ll be back with us for 6 seasons. Great news!

Carvajal, new signing for Real Madrid

The ex-academy player returns to the club where he was originally trained having had an excellent season with Bayer Leverkusen and been voted best right back in the Bundesliga

Daniel Carvajal is Real Madrid’s first reinforcement for the 2013-2014 season. The Spanish defender returns to the club where he played the first nine seasons of his career and after having defended the colours of Bayer Leverkusen during the last season, in which he was voted best right back in the Bundesliga. An under-21 international, he is a player who already has a great pedigree, a fine defender who can join the attack with great ease (he scored a goal and made seven assists in the German league championship). Among his outstanding qualities are his capacity for work, a great physique and speed. This season he scored one goal and provided seven assists.

Born on 11 January 1992, Carvajal is a classic example of an academy player who has triumphed and achieved the dream of every footballer who passes through La Fábrica: to join the Real Madrid first team. He arrived at the club in July 2002 to play with Alevín B. He continued to grow as a player from one year to the next, spending nine seasons with in the lower divisions. In 2009-2010 he won a League and a Champions Cup with the Junior A team. This was the springboard that launched him into Castilla. There he won a permanent place in the squad on the right wing and he played a crucial role in their promotion to the Second Division in 2011-2012.

His talents did not go unnoticed by Bayer Leverkusen, who signed him last summer. In the Bundesliga he has made the definitive leap to become a class player and he has realized his potential as one of the defenders with the most brilliant future in Spanish football. A fact that illustrates his class is that the newspaper Bild selected him as the best right back in the German league. An international with the Spanish youth squads, he was one of the team that became European under-19 champions for Spain and this summer he will be playing with the under-21s.

Did Flo just use up his “one transfer that makes sense” designation for the summer? If he did, I approve! Flo got us a defender you guys! A DEFENDER! Welcome back Dani!

Yeah, I was DELIGHTED! Such a change from the usual “let’s buy every midfielder in Europe” approach. 🙂

    Any defender signing is good

Guess that means they’re planning in offloading some defenders?! I read in the uk press that Pepe has been valued at £15k & linked with Man City. That was last week tho so sorry if its old news…

    • Mehreh June 3, 2013 at 3:34 pm #

i hadn’t heard that yet. i don’t know how that makes me feel, to be quite honest. i love pepe the cold blooded enforcer but i haven’t seen much of that in him lately.

      • la-la June 3, 2013 at 3:52 pm #

I don’t know how he’d be recieved in the uk quite honestly. Most of my friends who only follow EPL only know Pepe from El Classicos, and the fashionable view here is that Barca are the ‘better’ team, so are biased against RM anyway. The view that he’s an assasin is popular. Mind you, Nigel de Jong & Vincent Kompany are/were MC defenders….

    • headbandsandheartbreak June 3, 2013 at 3:59 pm #

I’ve read rumors of both Pepe and Marcelo heading to the EPL – actually to Tottenham. I think we’re just going to have to wait till the dust clears.

      • la-la June 3, 2013 at 4:07 pm #

Really?! The politics boggle the mind…(apparently Mou and AVB haven’t spoken in years, despite Spurs &RM having some sort of special agreement) You’re right tho, endless scuttlebut isn’t helpful or productive, we’ll just have to hold our breath and wait til contracts are actually signed

      • Mehreh June 3, 2013 at 5:03 pm #

i’m going to take deep cleansing breaths at the thought of marcelo going anywhere. dust clearing, indeed. *deep cleansing breaths*

Oh dear God the thought of Marcelo leaving actually crushes my soul.

I think it’s great to have a real home boy that can really feel the team colors in good times and bad.

We’re bringing one of ours home? AND HE’S A RIGHT BACK?!? What kind of a logical reasonable thing to do is that? So happy to hear this news!

    • Mehreh June 3, 2013 at 5:06 pm #

entirely too logical. if anything, i expect 15 more midfielders and 4 more strikers. and more keepers! hurray! (transfer season has officially made me lose my mind.)

      • CinematiqueChic June 3, 2013 at 5:25 pm #

I wouldn’t mind four more strikers! We need one at least, if not two (I’d love if they just promoted Morata permanently but I’m not holding my breath). The fifteen midfielders that we’re definitely still going to get, on the other hand… well, Flo does love to spend that cash.

        • Mehreh June 3, 2013 at 6:14 pm #

i hope to see morata promoted permanently, the darling. every time he scores, he gets just a teeny bit more confident and it’s so fun to watch.

OMG I didn’t expect to be happy with any player movement in or out but I am unexpectedly DELIGHTED with this!!!!!!

Ahhh perfect signing: our own, great player, RIGHT BACKKKK! OMGOMOMG SO HAPPY!

If this is Zizou’s work, as he’s the guy who’s going to manage player movement from now on, he is doing GREAT so far!

In other news, Castilla’s Juanfran went on a free transfer to Betis. At least he gets to play in the primera liga.

  10. MissLadya June 4, 2013 at 4:30 pm #

No idea who this guy was but I saw the words “right back” and I actually pumped my fists in the air. A DEFENDER!! It is way, way, wayyyyyyy too early to even hope, but please let this be a teeny-tiny sign of hope that sanity and reason will be on our side this upcoming season! 🙂
