It’s that time of year again! If you’re in NYC, get on over and get your fill of footy films. For info on this year’s offerings and tickets, head on over to the Kicking & Screening website.

My favorite soccer movie is called The Match. It takes place in Scotland and for 100 years two pubs play one match. One pub has won all 99 previous matches. If the other team does not win, they have to hand over the keys to their pub. Very good movie. The guy who is on the most is soooooo cute.
Thanks for the recommendation!
My favorite is “Once in a Lifetime,” the documentary about the New York Cosmos in the 70’s. Great footage of Pele et al (complete with the players partying with socialites at Studio 54) and an incredible soundtrack. And it’s stream-able on Netflix.
One of my faves is the brilliant documentary “Kicking It” which follows the lives of 6 players: Najib (Afghanistan), Alex (Kenya), Damien and Simon (Ireland), Craig (USA), Jesus (Madrid, Spain) and Slava (Russia) as they compete in the 2006 Homeless World Cup in South Africa.
It’s funny, heartbreaking and inspiring. Definitely worth watching. You can see it online at:

and I know you can stream it on Netflix in the US. It’s a beautiful testament to the transformative power of the game.
Here’s a post we made about the Homeless World Cup. https://headbandsandheartbreak.wordpress.com/2011/07/06/homeless-world-cup-upcoming-launc-documentary-donate/
