Karanka: “I’m proud to say I am Mourinho’s friend”

The former assistant coach talked about his relationship with the Portuguese coach with DTLux magazine this week.

Aitor Karanka granted an interview with DTLux magazine in which he spoke about working alongside José Mourinho and his final year at Real Madrid. “I was the person who knew Mourinho better than anyone else and I have to say that it was a privilege to work with him. I am proud to be able to say that I am a friend of his. As my first experience in the coaching field, it was an incredible experience,” Karanka said.

The Basque coach is still waiting to hear whether he will be given a new role at Real Madrid now that Carlo Ancelotti will have Zinedine Zidane and Paul Clement as his assistants. Karanka insists that he is not too worried about what the future holds for him. “I would be very happy if I ended up enjoying as much success as a coach as I did as a player”. He also revealed that Mourinho had wanted to take him with him to London but he has remained in Madrid where he still has three years left to run on his contract.

Okay, so perhaps he’s not the totally suave model that Xabi is, but that last picture? Ooof! Looking good, sir. Looking very good indeed. It’s also really nice to see someone besides the usual suspects as a cover boy, no?

Noooooo….I hope he stays. You cannot doubt his Madridistaness. Mou would never have survived the press onslaught without Aitor to be his buffer.
